And, Adult Sunday School begins at 10:00 in Saint Michael Chapel and Parish Hall. Our efforts to reach out to victims of Hurricane Harvey continue and we pray for victims of Hurricane Irma. Adult Sunday School Begins Today. Two Adult Formation Sunday School classes start today. “Choosing Freedom: Our Journey with God,” led by Mary Lessmann and Tom Blackmon, will be in Saint Michael Chapel. The class will amplify the lessons from the Rector’s sermon series based on the Book of Exodus. In Parish Hall, Bill Murray, will lead the Fellowship class through “Camp Heresy,” an examination of what is heresy and how beliefs of the early church compare to our beliefs today. Both classes begin at 10:00 a.m. Celebrate the Music of Saint Michael and All Angels Today. The magnificent tradition of Saint Michael’s music will be celebrated this afternoon at a reception welcoming The Church Music Institute, which has located its headquarters in Saint Michael’s 8100 Lomo Alto office building. From 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. meet Jonathan Ryan, our new Director of Music and Organist, and Assistant Music Director Glenn Stroh, celebrate the legacy of Dr. Paul Thomas, Saint Michael’s legendary Music Director, and greet Dr. Charlotte Krocker, Executive Director of CMI and organist for our 7:30 a.m. worship in Saint Michael Chapel. The reception will be in the Institute's offices in Suite 260. Women of Saint Michael Luncheon Wednesday, September 13. Two of the award winning Satellite Sisters, Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan Smith, launch the Women of Saint Michael’s fall luncheon series on Wednesday, September 13. With humor and affection they will delve into the “Importance of Female Friendships in Our Lives.” The luncheon begins at 11:30 in the Parish Hall. Season tickets for the series are available online at saintmichael.org/wosmluncheons. Acolyte Training Set for September and October. Saint Michael and All Angels is recognized throughout the Episcopal Church world for its outstanding Acolyte Corps. Training to be a part of this elite group will be held Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 on September 23 and 30, and October 7 and 14. It’s open to everyone from 6th grade and older. Hurricane Meal Preparation Set for Saturday, September 16 Response to last week’s call for meal preparation was so enthusiastic, we are doing it again! Saint Michael joins forces with Episcopal School of Dallas and Meals of Hope on Saturday September 16th, to prepare 250,000 meals for those devastated by Hurricane Harvey. There are two packing shifts, 9:00 – 11:00 and 11:00 – 1:00 at ESD’s Daryl Johnston Family Dining Commons, 4100 Merrell Road at Midway. Confirmation Listening Sessions Scheduled. The first two Confirmation Listening Sessions will be held Tuesday, September 12 to get input from parents about proposals to change the ages at which we confirm our youth. Tuesday’s Listening Sessions will be at 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Youth Center. Two other sessions will be held on October 12, and October 24 at 6:00 p.m. in the Youth Center. Jubilee Commemorative Bracelet on Sale Jubilee Park & Community Center is commemorating its 20th anniversary with a trio of exclusively designed bracelets by Dallas-based Hazen Jewelry. All proceeds benefit Jubilee Park’s initiative to provide educational enrichment to low-income children with special learning needs. The handmade bracelets feature natural materials and a custom "Jubilee" charm. Each bracelet is $50 or $125 for the set of three. Discovery – A Course About Our Church. Discovery is a 5-week course starting in October that gives newcomers and members entering a new life-phase the opportunity to delve more deeply into our Episcopal traditions. The course, led by the Rector Chris Girata, explores the history of Christianity and the Anglican Church, and Saint Michael’s mission in Dallas. Held each Sunday in October the session begins with lunch ($10) at 12:15 p.m. in the Coke Activities Room, followed by teachings which prepare one to become a confirmed member of Saint Michael. Childcare is provided if requested. Register at: saintmichael.org/discoveryclass Saint Michael 101 Luncheon – An Introduction to Our Church for Newcomers. Saint Michael 101 on is the perfect opportunity for newcomers to explore our church, meet clergy and Vestry members, and learn about our ministries, opportunities for involvement, and exciting future. The luncheon is at 12:30 p.m. in the Coke Activities Room on Sunday, September 24. Childcare will be available. PT Cruisers to Tour The Star. PT Cruisers put on your walking shoes as we”kick” off the year with a tour of The Star, the newest gem of the Dallas Cowboys organization. The bus leaves the church on Thursday, September 21st at 9:30 a.m. After the tour we will have pizza at Campisis. Cost for the tour and lunch is $35. Tom Blackmon is leading a new discussion class– Stories of Sin and Redemption – using short stories that engage the spiritual and moral questions facing the characters. Oleta Salyards Named Interim Director of Mission and Outreach Parishioner Oleta Salyards has been named Interim Director of Mission and Outreach, and is organizing Saint Michael’s Hurricane Harvey disaster relief efforts. Mrs. Salyards, a former Vestry member, has an extensive background in marketing and volunteer coordination. She led Saint Michael’s disaster response to Hurricane Katrina that devastated New Orleans and the Gulf coast in 2005. She also will coordinate the church’s expanding Mission and Outreach programs.
