We hope you will take the time to meet with them and thank them for their continued support. Words of Wisdom: Informal sessions led by industry leaders who will share their advice, experience and words of wisdom. Please take the time to check out these informative sessions, all held in the Meteor/Mamie meeting room at the Lake Tahoe Resort. Welcome to CAJPA’s 2017 Annual Conference! We are delighted that you joined us this year at CAJPA’s flagship event! CAJPA’s annual conference brings together the “best and the brightest” from California’s risk sharing community. Each year, the Professional Development Committee works tirelessly to identify topics and speakers that will provide attendees with the greatest experience possible. The program agenda includes numerous educational options targeted directly to pool professionals, executive leadership and governing officials. Attend a session in your area of expertise or feel free to venture into a session that may expose you to a new pooling topic.

Our opening presenter, Michelle Gielan, is a national CBS News anchor turned positive psychology researcher and is the best-selling author of Broadcasting Happiness. Michelle is the Founder of the Institute for Applied Positive Research and studies how transformative stories fuel success. Takeaways from this session will be plentiful. Attendees will learn how to inoculate your brain against stress and negativity by factchecking challenges; deal with negative people in a way that lessens their power, and create and sustain a positive culture at work by creating contagious optimism. We are excited to learn from this powerful speaker.

This year’s theme “A Recipe for Success” inspired us to select Chef Jeff Henderson as a keynote presenter. Chef Jeff discovered his passion and gift for cooking in an unlikely place, prison. He uses his journey from drug dealer to celebrity chef, to help others transform their lives and live their dreams. His message is simple, “I’m living the American Dream and so can you!” We are confident you will walk away from this luncheon keynote inspired and empowered to be all you can be. As a special treat he will also be providing a cooking demonstration at Thursday evening’s reception.

The breakout sessions, keynote presentations, exhibit hall and networking opportunities with make this a transformative event for all! The conference is truly a recipe for success. Be sure to spend time in the exhibit hall and learn about new products and services to make your pool the best it can be today and tomorrow.

Providing these short, digital training resources that are both entertaining and informative is a key element in transforming your safety culture. A BETTER WAY TO TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS

You don’t profi t from sick employees. Why does your health provider?

In an industry built on fee-for-service care, Kaiser Permanente succeeds because we’re built around prevention and the highest quality care. One Harvard Business Review article described our care as “untainted by any economic conflict of interest.”* And an industry report by The Economist said we promote economy and quality care with “no financial motive to order unnecessary procedures.”†

Choose better. Choose Kaiser Permanente. * Lew McCreary, “Kaiser Permanente’s Innovation on the Front Lines,” Harvard Business Review, September 2010. †

”Another American Way,” The Economist, May 1, 2010.
