2019 President’s Letter
Tracy Hill Welcome to the 2019 Monterey MPACE Conference. I am particularly fond
of this conference as it was the first conference I attended over 20 years ago! This year’s conference theme, Inspire, Shift, Act fits right in with line with what we need to do to keep up with the ever-changing roles we have in our professions. At this conference you will learn to inspire a shift for the next generation of professionals. Many people visit Monterey to see the Aquarium, which currently is featuring a giant octopus and, of course, those adorable otters. Perhaps they may visit to stroll along Cannery Row, also captured in Steinbeck’s novel of the same name. One of my favorite Steinbeck quotes is: “I am impelled, not to squeak like a grateful and apologetic mouse, but to roar like a lion out of pride in my profession.” I believe this is how you will feel after leaving this conference! The Monterey conference committee has been planning several events including two amazing keynote speakers. Sara Safari who will discuss how her dream of climbing Mt. Everest changed her life, as well as many women across the world. In addition, Dr. Omékongo Dibinga whose life’s mission is to inspire all across the globe to take a stand when they witness an injustice, no matter how small or large. We also have the opportunity to take advantage of the food and wine industry that Monterey is known for. Our Thursday night event will include a Taste of Monterey and will conclude with what we at MPACE are famous for—dancing! The hallmarks of the MPACE conference are networking, conference content, and making a lifetime of connections. My hope is for you to take advantage of all the organization has to offer by stepping out of your comfort zone and engaging where ever possible at the conference. I have been a member of MPACE for over 20 years. MPACE has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills as well as learn new skills when taking on various roles. As you know MPACE is an all-volunteer association. For many of you this may be your first MPACE conference. Please explore many of the volunteer opportunities and connect with MPACE members who have done the same. As an all-volunteer association, you help shape the future of MPACE. As you make your journey to the conference, I wish you safe travels. I look forward to seeing you at the Monterey conference for a truly rewarding and inspiring experience.

All of our amazing conference volunteers have worked extremely hard to ensure everyone has an exciting time filled with amazing networking, best-practice sharing, leadership development, and most importantly FUN. Our main goal for this conference is that you all walk away Inspired to make a Shift and Act on implementing all of the innovative and amazing best-practices that will be shared throughout the conference from a diverse range of presenters and keynote speakers. Of course we could not have a conference without the work of our awesome conference planning committees, and the guidance and support of our association management group, Smith Moore & Associates – we thank you for taking time away from your extremely busy work schedules to make this conference one of the best one’s yet. We definitely could not have made this all possible without the generous contributions of our sponsors and business partners in the exhibit hall. We are extremely grateful for the continued and new partnerships we have received for MPACE. In the spirit of MPACE, please make sure to take advantage of the networking and learning opportunities throughout this time at the conference alongside all of the new and returning MPACE members!
