Increase Engagement and Retention with Innovative Onboarding Ideas Patricia Slaven, MBA, SPHR, IPMA-HR, Director of Human Resources and Administration Association of California Water Agencies, JPIA (ACWA JPIA) Moderated by Puneet Behl, CPA, ARM, Chief Financial Officer, PRISM One area often overlooked that can actually deliver improvements in retention and engagement levels is Onboarding. When a new employee is hired, there is a critical window of time where an organization has the opportunity to capture the heart and mind of the person. “You never get a second chance to make a first impression” is a well-known saying and a sobering truth. Organizations that go beyond the old model of just orienting new staff have overall better retention and engagement numbers; and those new employees carry that positive feeling throughout their tenure in the organization. It is a gift that keeps on giving. This session will discuss why proper onboarding is critical in today’s work environment, and will introduce a four-pronged approach to ensure the effectiveness and success of each and every onboarding. With a small investment in time and some coordination, organizations will see amazing results - high motivation, increased energy and extra effort - in all new hires simply by embracing this onboarding process. 9:25 - 9:35 a.m.
