We have all faced our fears at some point in our lives. Did you have a fear of flying? When your best friends’ wedding was an event you could not miss, you somehow overcame your fear and made it to the celebrated event. The fear of public speaking, fear of speaking up in a crowd, afraid of receiving public ridicule or negative judgment, but after doing so, many in the crowd came up to you and thanked you for your courage. By doing so and trusting your gut, now each of them feels more confident to engage and participate. Was your fear of asking someone for forgiveness or telling someone you loved them, for fear of being rejected?

We have shared experiences of overcoming our fear or not. We share this in common as individuals and as a global collective across all ages, races, genders, cultures, and economic status. Now, in the face of a global virus pandemic that affects everyone in one way or another, it can certainly feel as though fear has won. It may feel as though fear has brutally extinguished the light of faith, hope, and love in everything.
Let’s stop. It’s time to re-focus. Now is the time to truly wake up. There has never been a time like this on the planet precisely like this. Humanity has endured tragedy, loss, massive change, severe conditions, and brutality, and yet there has always been one common thread to overcoming adversity. That unbreakable, unshakeable, ever-resistant, and timeless thing? Love.
The pandemic is forcing us to slow down, dial back our hyper-space paced life; we are experiencing perhaps for far too long. A silence. For some, this silence is making their skin crawl. It’s bringing up a mirror from which to turn inward upon themselves, and many are not wanting to face what they see. You want to run away, but everything that has helped you keep running for all this time is taken away. Now what? A few things to consider,
What is your reflection? What have you stuffed in the recesses of your heart and mind? What must you face and work on during this time?
Pace and stillness make us enter into the silence. The practice of doing nothing is powerful and compelling. Deeper silence at first creates discomfort; it is like a stranger that enters our personal space without attention or respect for boundaries. Profound silence is where the magic lies to create what you desire and quiet the noise of life.
We can embrace this global wake up call together; in fact, we must. There is no choice; there is no sitting this one out. It’s been in the face of tragedy that we set aside our differences and pettiness to work together. In working together, we begin to see one another again, and we awaken to the reality of our greatest gifts. Life. Love. Unity. Individually and collectively, we are faced with a choice; to remain wandering in the desert of selfishness, where our struggles of fear, anger, doubt, and lack of compassion rule, or we can choose now to return to our profound truth through the gateway of peace and silence. Your choice matters and does not affect only you.
Like a child throwing a tantrum, we threatened to run away from home. We did run away, and now we are being called back. We are being called back to hope, patience, compassion, peace, gratitude, love and truth, and a profound remembering that “Home is Where the Heart is.”
