We’re hitting the ground running!

Now, more than ever, we need to work together to shape the future of our region and improve our local communities. Regional

Bill and Stewart are fighting at the Council of Governments’ Transportation Planning Board and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority for major changes to regional transportation plans (Visualize 2045 and Transaction 2040) to ensure we reduce the region’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Walkable, transit-oriented communities with affordable housing – and backed by stronger regional policy – is a necessary solution along with electrifying buses, trucks, ride hailing vehicles, and personal cars.

D.C.

Cheryl continues to work with local advocates at Ward3Vision and Cleveland Park Smart Growth to push for a more inclusive, affordable Ward 3. We’re currently focusing on a vision for the Chevy Chase Small Area Plan that prioritizes welcoming a diversity of new homes, especially affordable homes, in a larger context of achieving environmental sustainability, social equity, quality of life and neighborhood architectural character.

Maryland

Jane and Montgomery for All, along with allies, are urging passage of Thrive 2050, a much-needed update to Montgomery County’s general plan. It prioritizes transit; walkable, transit-oriented communities; and more affordable housing options. We’re also following the Silver Spring Downtown & Adjacent Communities plan, which passed the Planning Board and has now been sent to the County Council. Jane is also leading our Better Buses campaign with 28 partners – pressing for funding for the next Bus Rapid Transit line in Montgomery County – on Veirs Mill Road, and participating in the upcoming bus network redesign study.

Cheryl is working with local civic activists to build the grassroots advocacy group, RISE Prince George’s to influence land use and transportation decisions in Prince George’s County. Read their Election Platform . Prince George’s residents are invited to join RISE Prince George’s and participate in briefing candidates on our smart growth agenda. We’re also providing input to the Adelphi Sector Plan tied to the future Purple Line station at the west side of the University of Maryland College Park campus.

Virginia

Sonya is tracking the planning for the Huntington Metro station, and the rezoning application and bike and pedestrian accessibility study for the West Falls Church Metro station. She’s continuing a focus on safer streets, including partnering with CASA to develop a plan for Safer Streets at Bailey’s Crossroads (webpage coming soon). In Arlington, Sonya is tracking Plan Langston Boulevard (formerly Lee Highway), which has the potential to become a vibrant, inclusive, and transit-oriented corridor, and transportation projects at National Landing. While in Alexandria, she’s supporting Liveable Alexandria as we track the Duke Street Transitway planning and redevelopment proposals.
