First, the staff news: Jane Lyons, our Maryland Advocacy Manager, a champion in leading and building the movement in Montgomery County, is leaving to become a Principal Planner for the City of Rockville. We will miss her but at least she’ll be close by! So we’re hiring for her position and an exciting new position for a Maryland Transit Advocate with a state and Prince George’s focus. Pike & Rose at White Flint is an exciting example of a walkable future for Rockville Pike. Join us as we highlight placemaking, street design, Metro, walk & bike access, and future redevelopment. We’ll end with a fun happy hour!

Maryland: Downtown Largo (Oct 6 at 5:30pm, RSVP)

CSG and Ward3Vision are hosting a walking tour of the new 10-acre City Ridge project at the former Fannie Mae headquarters on Wisconsin Avenue. We’ll end with a fun happy hour at Surfside! Stay tuned for more info.

Falls Church is transforming with walkable urbanism while reducing traffic. Join us for a walking tour highlighting the West Falls Church Metro plan, Route 7 bus rapid transit, upgrades to the W&OD trail, and Founders Row. We’ll end with a fun happy hour!

Maryland: Pike & Rose (Sep 22 at 5:30pm, RSVP)

Largo is the future downtown of Prince George’s County and a priority in the County Executive’s Blue Line Corridor initiative. We won the campaign to locate the new Capital Region Medical Center here. We’ll check it out, along with other redevelopment, and efforts to improve walk and bike access. Social hour to follow!

Montgomery County commissioned a racial equity and social justice (RESJ) review of the Thrive 2050 General Plan draft and will develop a RESJ chapter for the plan. Fill out this survey and sign up to join one of the focus groups to make a good plan even better!

Better short-term safety fixes needed on Rt. 7 (read CSG & CASA’s comments)

Diverse housing types in Arlington

Arlington County is hosting several community engagement opportunities in September and October as part of phase 3 of its Missing Middle Housing Study. Learn more and share feedback on how the county could provide more housing options.

Speaking of Route 7, major arterial roads across our region are among the most dangerous for people walking and biking (and driving). Join FABB, CSG, Toole Design, VDOT and Fairfax County Supervisor Lusk for a panel on how to make these roads safer

There are openings for members of the public to apply to the Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board, Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board, and the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee. It’s a chance to share your ideas for an inclusive, sustainable community. If you live in one of these areas, take a look!

Our campaign with CASA and local residents prompted a large town hall meeting with VDOT and Fairfax County, who announced proposed safety improvements for Route 7. But we need more short-term fixes and bigger design changes for Route 7 to address major safety issues for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users
