Welcome Carrie!
We are excited to welcome Carrie Kisicki to the CSG team as our new Montgomery Advocacy Manager. Carrie takes the place of Jane Lyons, who is now a Principal Planner with the City of Rockville. Carrie is a dedicated community organizer with experience at Action in Montgomery (AIM) and Greater Greater Washington.
Don’t forget to vote!
Election Day is coming up on Nov 8. Represent yourself and your community – get out and vote! Early voting deadlines are Nov 3 in Maryland, Nov 5 in Virginia, and Nov 6 in DC.
Exciting Metro news!
In good Metro news, we learned that WMATA and the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission (WMSC) have reached an agreement that will bring the 7000-series trains back on line, allowing for restoration of more frequent service! And, we just learned the Silver Line Extension will open on Nov 15th.
The first step in WMATA’s plan to redesign and upgrade the region’s bus network is hearing from you! This is your chance to let WMATA know what you need from their bus service. Take the survey by November 11, attend a neighborhood pop-up, and sign up for the newsletter.
Smart Growth Social Goes Local
For the second year in a row, we went local – combining walking tours, social hours, and fundraising in our Smart Growth Social Goes Local events around the region. Thank you to the nearly 200 people who joined us!

A new library plus affordable homes for Chevy Chase DC (read our joint statement)
We’re partnering with Ward3Vision and Washington Interfaith Network to expedite plans to build 100+ mixed-income and affordable homes as part of a new library and community center in the civic core on Connecticut Avenue. Stay tuned for opportunities to weigh in.
Let’s keep the momentum going to ensure Ward 3 meets its housing goals! Check out these opportunities to speak up for more housing, especially affordable housing, great public spaces, and safe streets for walking and biking in the Wisconsin Avenue Development Framework plan. Also stop by the Ward3Vision table at the Nov. 5 Open Streets on Wisconsin Ave!
Urge the Mayor to fix the K Street Transitway (take action)
We’ve told you of our alarm at recent changes to the K Street Transitway that would lose at least half the median tree canopy and turn the street into a sterile, utilitarian roadway. Please join us in urging the Mayor to build the K Street Transitway as promised - as a leafy green transit boulevard. Read our letter to the Mayor.

We passed Thrive 2050!
We did it! After over three years of our advocacy, the Council Council passed Thrive 2050. Thrive embraces smart growth as the most sustainable and equitable way to grow and provide opportunities for everyone. A huge thanks to everyone who took action with us – Montgomery for All and many partners. We couldn’t have done it without your support!
We’re hiring: Maryland Transit Advocate (apply)
Our exciting new position for a Maryland Transit Advocate will campaign for state transit investment, with a particular focus in Prince George’s County. This position will work with partners to advocate for more funding, better buses, and walkable, bikeable, transit-oriented communities.
Give your input on University Boulevard (Nov 2 &9, RSVP)
With Thrive’s passing, it’s time to get the details right in each small area plan! Join one of two open houses for the University Boulevard Corridor Plan centered on the three-mile stretch of University Boulevard between Wheaton and I-495. Speak up for a greener and safer street for walking, biking and transit use.
Event: Better Buses for Prince George’s County (Nov 9 at 6:30pm, RSVP)
Learn how to get involved with improving bus service in Prince George’s County! WMATA is collaborating with Prince George's County to redesign and improve bus service, including prioritizing buses on local roads. Learn more about WMATA’s Better Bus project and fill out the survey (closes Friday, November 11).
Virginia
Speak up for a livable Duke Street! (take action)
Center-running dedicated bus lanes, wider tree-lined sidewalks, and a safe and convenient east-west bike route along Duke Street are an investment in Alexandria’s future. The Mayor and City Council need to hear that this is the vision we support!
Transit-oriented communities at Huntington Metro (take action)
Fairfax County is considering a plan to transform the Huntington Metro station area into a walkable, bike-friendly, transit-oriented community. Let’s make sure the county knows why this amendment is necessary for our future!
VDOT is holding its next public meeting on multimodal plans for Route 1 through National Landing (Crystal City). More information about the study from VDOT and People Before Cars
Let’s get NoVa transportation onto the right track (take action)
67% of the public comments on the draft TransAction 2045 transportation plan asked for changes. Thank you to those who emailed! With 1,000 lane miles of road expansion that will fuel sprawl, the plan fails to address climate change and ignores the need for better land use. We continue to oppose the plan but our updated alert includes fallback recommendations.
Bike ride in Tyson’s!
CSG is partnering with Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling for an 8-mile bike tour of new developments in Tysons. We’ll be exploring the new communities around the Silver Line stations and discussing Fairfax County’s plans for safer, more pedestrian- and bike-friendly streets. Thanks for all you do,
