Seen A Bluebird? Have you seen a bluebird in your neighborhood? If so, they are undoubtedly hard pressed looking for a nesting site. In recent years most nesting locations in knot holes in trees are at a premium with competition with imported aggressive English (house) sparrows. perch in front of the hole that will encourage sparrows. The box should be mounted on a greased metal pole or pipe set out in the open and not more than 6 feet from the ground. Regular monitoring is necessary to discourage English Sparrows from taking over, as they consistently kill the parents and their babies! English Sparrows are referred to as “The Hitlers of the Bird World.” Being a Europe import and pest they are not protected by law. Keep them evicted. With human knowledge and help, this native American Bluebird can survive. For more information, Google “Helping Bluebirds” or “Bluebird Nesting Boxes.” Swallows will also use these boxes. Each swallow eats a minimum of 6,000 insects a day, mainly mosquitoes.

Stow Candidates Night The League of Women Voter will sponsor a Candidates Forum on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 7:30pm at the Stow Town Hall. All candidates have been

As we are all aware, cancer is a devastating disease which has far reaching effects not only for those individuals diagnosed with cancer, but also for their families. While a client of the Healing Garden, Linda Hair-Sullivan became aware of the difficult struggle that young mothers have when trying to nurture and provide for their children while they themselves are battling cancer. Often coping with overwhelming medication side effects, they face a monumental battle working to regain their health and strength all the while caring for those who rely on them. In order to support these

young women as they travel this difficult path, Linda established the Madonna Fund. This fund is dedicated to providing child care so that these mothers can have peace of mind knowing that their children are being cared for while they are undergoing treatment or recuperating at home. There is no other resource that specifically supports children during their parent’s illness. The fund seeks to provide not only child care, but positive, balancing experiences for children and mothers such as membership to the YMCA, summer camp, or healthy lifestyle classes at the Healing Garden. Assabet Valley Mastersingers On Saturday, May 13th at 8 pm Assabet Valley Mastersingers with orchestra will present a concert of uplifting and reassuring music under the baton of Artistic Director Robert P. Eaton at St. Mary’s Parish, 640 Main Street in Shrewsbury. Vocal soloists soprano Jessica Cooper, mezzo Thea Lobo, tenor Charles Blandy and baritone John Salvi will complete the concert ensemble. Despite the title, Joseph Haydn’s Mass in Time of War is bright, classical and joyful in nature with only its frequent use of timpani to suggest the rumblings of war. In a change of perspective Morten Lauridsen’s ethereal and lush Lux Aeterna features texts drawn from sacred Latin sources embodying the serenity and harmony of ‘Light Eternal.’ Concert tickets may be purchased through www. AVMsingers.org or in advance at Shattuck Pharmacy, Northborough; David French Music Co., Westborough; Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union; English Gardens Florist,

Southborough; Serendipity Jewelry, Art, & Whimsy, Hudson; and both Joy-Den Jewelers and Main Street Café in Marlborough. Advance sale tickets from outlets in these six towns are discounted $3 (three) from the regular price of $25 (twenty-five) and $20 (twenty) for students and senior citizens. St. Mary’s Church is accessible to the physically challenged, and large print programs will be available. For further information please call (978) 562-9838 or reference www.AVMsingers. org. Partial funding for the Assabet Valley Mastersingers, a non-profit organization, has been provided by the Avidia Charitable Foundation; the Southborough Community Fund of the Foundation for MetroWest and also by the Massachusetts Cultural Council through Arts Councils in Boylston, Clinton, Grafton, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Southborough, and Westborough. Webster Five Foundation has generously donated funds to help support availability of limited complimentary tickets for seniors in certain towns.

Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. action unlimited Community, a brave social experiment for children, taking place on a remote mountaintop in the Himalayas. Executive Director Odessa Dwarika and Jhamtse International Board members will be present to answer questions. The trailer for the film can be viewed at https://vimeo. com/95827076. Buddhist Monk Lobsang Phuntsok was trained under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama but 11 years ago he left behind a life as a spiritual teacher in Concord, Massachusetts to create a unique community in the foothills of the Himalayas which rescues orphaned and neglected children. The film documents 5 year-old Tashi, the newest arrival. Her mother has recently passed away and she’s been abandoned by her alcoholic father. Wild and troubled, Tashi is struggling to find her place amongst 84 new siblings. Lobsang has channeled his own unhappy childhood into an opportunity for other ‘uninvited guests of the universe’ to avoid a similar fate. But Can the community’s love and compassion transform Tashi’s alienation and tantrums into a capacity to make

her first real friend? Jhamtse International invites the public to witness the magic of “Tashi and the Monk”. This special event will be held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Maynard, Fine Arts Theatre, 19 Summer St. Maynard MA. Doors will open at 6:00pm for a silent auction and cash bar. The film will be shown at 7pm followed by a Q&A at 8pm. The screening and event is free and all are welcome to attend.

It dictates everything from public policy in education to medical care to family life. This “safety-at-all cost” society is driven by our fear and anxiety.
