Ayer Council On Aging The Ayer Council On Aging is a cooling center if you are 60+. The summer is here and we have had some really hot and sticky days. So if you would like to cool down, come and join us here to get comfortable. Our location is 18 Pond St. located in the back of Ayer Housing Authority. Our exercise program has

Our volunteers pay for postage and all other costs, so we are able to give away 100% of the money we receive. AFIN will consider helping anyone who is recommended by clergy or social service professionals associated with a local agency. Local clergy and social service agencies know how to contact A Friend in Need on behalf of an individual in need. We do not discriminate and will try to help anyone with a genuine need.

When he arrived for his second blood transfusion, he was told the blood he needed was not available. He waited eight hours for blood to arrive and to receive the transfusion he needed that day. “One thing that I committed to my wife was that I was going to beat leukemia, no matter what, and I was going to do that,” said Bourget. “But what I wasn’t going to be able to do was survive without the blood that I needed.” Bourget went into remission following a successful treatment plan, which included 28 blood and 34 platelet transfusions. He has been a faithful advocate for blood donations ever since. “If it wasn’t for the generosity of volunteer blood donors, I would not be here today,” he

said. “My daughter would not have a father, and my wife would not have a husband. Thank you and please give blood. Fort Devens Museum Offers WWI Exhibits And A Special Program On August 5th and 6th, the quadrangle behind the Fort Devens Museum at 94 Jackson Road, Devens, will become a World War I living history site bustling with reenactors in uniform. On display will be vintage motor vehicles, military equipment, tents, and weapons. This is your chance to talk with group members about what they are wearing and what military equipment they have brought with them. The hours for the weekend are: Saturday August 5 from 10 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday August 6 from 10 AM to 3 PM. This event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $5/individual & $10/family. Additionally, guided tours of Devens, with a focus on WWI sites, will run throughout the day for $10/person. Inside the museum on these days, will also be plenty for visitors to take in. There will be expanded World War I displays set up and a special program on Sunday, August 6th. At 1:00 PM on August 6th, guest speaker Gene Fax will present a talk: “Researching the AEF (American Expeditionary Forces): Adventures and Findings.” As a child he listened enthralled as his grandfather told him stories about his service with the 313th Infantry Regiment of the 79th Division. He will tell the story of his arduous multiyear search to dig up the history of the most outstanding battle the division was involved in. He will share his results of the study and the book he has written, “With Their Bare hands: general Pershing, the 79th Division, and the Battle for Montfaucon.” Join us on this special weekend commemorating both the 100th anniversary of Camp Devens the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into
