“Caring For Caregivers” Meeting On Tuesday morning, August 7th, from 11am to Noon, the First United Methodist Church at 34 Felton Street, Hudson, will hold its “Caring for Caregivers”
meeting in Lamson Hall on the first floor of the church. We are handicap accessible via a motorized seat. The church has recognized a yearning in the community for a place to gather, intended for those in the position of being a caregiver and who need to be with others going through difficult times caring for their loved ones. Our purpose is to establish a safe, quiet setting for those who are feeling the weight that often accompanies caregiving. Caregivers often feel alone/isolated and unique. We can’t solve problems or change a situation but we will offer support by encouraging each other to not feel weak or selfish or unloving because of our thoughts. Come talk about your concerns and feelings with those who know what you are going through. We will not be judgmental; only attentive and compassionate. We will not meet in September due to Labor Day. Beginning in October, we will resume having a morning and evening meeting on the first Monday of every month. You may come to as few

or as many of our monthly meetings as you want. The meeting is open to anyone who is a caregiver and may be feeling isolated by their particular situation. You may come just to listen but over time, we hope you’ll feel free to speak. There are no dues or fees to think about, just come and be with us for an hour or so. As a special thank you, those who come out to give blood or platelets with the Red Cross July 26 through Aug. 31 will be emailed a $5 Target eGiftCard™.* Who blood and platelet donations help Blood shortages could lead to delays in patient care, something Arthur Bourget learned firsthand after being diagnosed with leukemia in July 2007. When he arrived for his second blood transfusion, he was told the

blood he needed was not available. He waited eight hours for blood to arrive and to receive the transfusion he needed that day. “One thing that I committed to my wife was that I was going to beat leukemia, no matter what, and I was going to do that,” said Bourget. “But what I wasn’t going to be able to do was survive without the blood that I needed.” Bourget went into remission following a successful treatment plan, which included 28 blood and 34 platelet transfusions. He has been a faithful advocate for blood donations ever since. “If it wasn’t for the generosity of volunteer blood donors, I would not be here today,” he said. “My daughter would not have a father, and my wife would not have a husband. Thank you and please give blood. You may never know the life you have saved, but I guarantee they will never forget you.” Upcoming blood donation opportunities July 25-Aug. 15 Middlesex County Acton 7/27/2017: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., St. Elizabeth’s Church, 89 Arlington Street

Celebrate Farmers Market Week Governor Charlie Baker has proclaimed August 6 – 12 Massachusetts Farmers Market Week! The celebration, in conjunction with National Farmers Market Week, recognizes the importance farmers markets play in supporting the economic vitality of Massachusetts food producers, strong, sustainable food systems, public health, and our communities. As demand for local food continues to grow, so too have the opportunities for America’s farmers to market fresh food directly to the consumer.. Summer produce is reaching its peak with corn, tomatoes, eggplant and peaches all available. During the week, there are many opportunities for area residents to visit one or more farmers markets nearby. On Sunday, the Acton-Boxborough Farmers’ Market is held at 1 Pearl Street from 10am – 1pm, www.abfarmersmarket.org/. On Tuesday, the Westford Farmers Market runs on the Town Common from 2:30pm - 6:30pm. www. westfordfarmersmarket.com/
and the new downtown Hudson Farmers Market runs from 3-6 pm in the Avidia Bank Parking Lot, behind Town Hall (off of Church Street). www.facebook. com/hudsonsfarmersmarket On Thursdays, the Marlborough Summer Farmers Market is held on Marlborough’s Union Common from 2:30 - 6:00 pm. Saturday, there are three local options: visit Kimballs Ice Cream on rte 225 in Carlisle where the Carlisle Farmers’ Market runs from 8am to noon, http://www. carlislefarmersmarket.org/ , the Harvard Farmers Market runs from 10 am - 1pm at the Hildreth Elementary School, http://harvardfarmersmarket.org/ and the Maynard Farmers’ Market runs from 9am-1pm in the Mill Pond parking lot on Main St, www. MaynardFarmersMarket.com ; In addition to offering local fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meats, dairy, wine and specialty items, most farmers’ markets are gathering places that feature artisans, community information and special events such as kids’ activities, musical performances, and cooking demonstrations. Many MA Farmers’ Markets also accept Senior /

Fun By The Numbers Like puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test!
Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

If you’re wondering why I’m hiding when you come to the shelter, I’ll give you a little bit of my background. I was homeless and lived under someone’s deck. I never traveled too far because I was afraid I would miss a meal. Since winter was coming, my feeder brought me to Animal Control hoping to find me a home. Then a volunteer from the Pat Brody Shelter fostered me for a while until there was room for me to come here. When you approach me, scratch me gently on my back end, when I rub my face against your hand, then it’s ok to pet me on my head and scratch the side of my neck. Please don’t adopt me as an only cat, I need a buddy. It doesn’t matter if it’s male or female, I love ALL cats and it’s fun to play with them. Do you have a lonely kitty at home looking for a friend? Then please consider me. I’ll need some TLC, of course, but in the end, it’ll be worth the effort. All cats have been spayed/neutered and are up to date on shots. Please visit our website at www.catsontheweb.org to view all our shelter residents and crafts.
