was fixed dues rates. In accordance with our ideals at Beth Tikvah Synagogue, we replaced dues with a pledge based system called Terumah. In the Torah, Terumah indicated a “freewill” offering, not a required one. Terumah has no singles/ family dues distinction. It is not based on how many in a household are active at temple, or how often a person uses it. It is based on how much one’s heart is moved to strengthen, celebrate and grow Jewish life at Beth Tikvah Synagogue, and a household’s own financial capacity. Paddy Male, 1 year old, black angora cat. The landlord found me in an apartment after the tenants moved and left me behind. It didn’t take him long to figure out what a nice cat I am. He came to the shelter told everyone he was Irish Catholic and when asked about my name he said “Cat.” So the volunteers gave me an Irish name in his honor for rescuing me. I am as gentle as I am big and I love to get tummy rubs and don’t mind being held. The only thing I do mind is not having a purrmanent home. If you’re looking for a lovebug, then you found your cat. Please be sure to have a big bed for me to snuggle in and I’ll be in heaven. All cats have been spayed/neutered and are up to date on shots. and 6th at the quadrangle behind 94 Jackson Road, Devens. In August 1917, over 20,000 soldiers were in the midst of training at Camp Devens while war waged in Europe. Come explore four WWI encampments for an overall experience of The Great War: Allied Powers, Central Powers, Red Cross/ Salvation Army, and Civilians. There will be equipment and vehicles including a FWD military truck, two Model T ambulances, artillery, and civilian Model T’s. Uniformed reenactors will display their gear and offer period military demonstrations. President Woodrow Wilson will be in attendance reviewing the troops! The hours for the weekend are: Saturday August 5 from 10 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday August 6 from 10 AM to 3 PM. This event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $5/individual & $10/family. Additionally, guided tours of Devens, with a focus on WWI sites, will run throughout the day for $10/person. The museum itself will be open during these same hours with WWI, WWII, Korean War and Vietnam era displays. Food

Assabet Valley Mastersingers has announced that the 2017 AVM Scholarship has been awarded to Rebecca Wixted, a recent graduate of Algonquin Regional High School. Rebecca, a resident of Northborough, sang with AVM as an Apprentice Singer during the 2015-2016 season and was also a choral student at ARHS. For more than ten years the AVM Apprentice Singers Program has given talented and motivated choral students the opportunity for an extraordinary experience, and the hope is that membership in a choral group will be continued. AFIN will consider helping anyone who is recommended by clergy or social service professionals associated with a local agency. Although he plans to lay out his budget and detailed plans at the Board meeting later in July, he wants to focus on the quality of fundraisers rather than the quantity. With an eye toward the future and recognizing, the busy and uncertain world in which Rotarians are serving today, Aykanian exhorted each and every member to bring in just one new member to help strengthen the Club’s efforts. He noted that if each of us does just that, the Club will be better positioned to meet whatever challenges it faces. Finally, he said that members should have fun together! As fellowship grows, so will everything else. His acceptance remarks reflected his passion for the ideals of Rotary, especially that of service, and he exhorted each and every member to cherish the value Rotary adds to the community. For members and prospective members alike, he suggests that the club’s theme be “Club First!” It is through working members of the Marlborough Rotary Club that we can all truly serve. For Aykanian, being a Rotarian is a family affair. He followed his father into the club, and his family has always participated in Rotary events; both of his children participated in the RYLA program (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), and today
