The Bay Circuit Trail was conceived in 1929 as a greenbelt trail, or “Outer Emerald Necklace”, to connect public and

private parks and natural areas between Route 128 and Interstate 495. Though the project staggered due to a surge in commercial and residential development, interest was renewed with the formation of the Bay Circuit Alliance in 1990. Since then, BCA’s membership has grown to six regional, four statewide, and over 30 local member organizations committed to helping communities establish their portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. Concert At The Healing Garden On Sunday, October 28 at 3:00pm, the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden begins this season’s concert series with luminary Stan Strickland in A Sonic Vision Quest. Saxophonist, flutist and vocalist, Stan will weave together a tapestry of melodies, harmonies and syncopated rhythms. Tower Hill To Host American Craft Fair The public is welcome to attend the American Craft Fair on Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21, at Tower Hill Botanic Garden. This fair is curated by the Worcester Center for Crafts and will feature more than 30 fine artisans representing ceramics, jewelry, wood, metalworking, glass, mixed metals, painting, fiber artists and more. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Admission includes access to the fair, facilities, grounds, and gardens. In addition, Tower Hill will be featuring its October Oddities

Hands-On Pastel Painting Workshop For Adults Ayer Library welcomes back award-winning pastel artist Gregory John Maichack, who will be leading his new workshop “Monet’s Magic: Pastel Paint Monet’s Wondrous Water Lilies” on Saturday, November 3rd from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. In this highly researched twohour workshop, Maichack uses the actual imagery that inspired Monet to paint his “Water Lily” paintings. Participants will create their own pastel painting, freely experimenting with hundreds of the artist’s professional grade pastels, pastel pencils, and pastel paper. This fun pastel painting workshop is designed for sheer beginners to advanced adult artists. Artist Gregory John Maichack lives in western Holyoke. He is a portraitist and painter working primarily in pastels. He is the winner of the Award of Merit from the Bennington Center for the Arts: Impressions of New England Show 2003, and the Savoir-faire Pastel Award from the Great Lakes Pastel Society. His portraitures, still lifes and landscapes are represented by galleries from Kennebunkport, Maine to San Francisco, California.
