Free Speech Week WestfordCAT has become a partner with www. FreeSpeechWeek.org. What does that mean? Here’s an explanation from the FSW website: “A FSW Partnering Organization is any group that would like to publicize Free Speech Week and to promote free speech through one or more activities. Being a Partnering Organization can be as simple as posting the official FSW logo on your website. Free Speech Week (FSW) is a yearly event to raise public awareness of the importance of free speech in our democracyand to celebrate that freedom. As freedom of speech is a right all Americans share, this nonpartisan, non-ideological event is intended to be a unifying celebration.”

Theses centers give everyone equal opportunity and equal access to technology without the barriers of know-how and cost. Community television allows you to share information, knowledge and opinions with your local community without censorship; and through our connections with other stations your message is shared with a broader community around the state and even with stations around the country. Today, with web-streaming, your

message can have a global reach. Anyone can participate in Free Speech Week! Whether it’s raising awareness about the history and importance of freedoms of speech and of the press, or engaging in everyday activities made possible because of these freedoms. Please join us from October 22 – 28, 2018 as we honor the 1stAmendment, our freedom of speech and celebrate the role community television plays in this right. 1stAmendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,

Right: Meeting the Enemy, a film by Deeyah Khan seeking to understand the personal and political reasons behind the apparent resurgence of extremism in the United States. Parents and families are often living a daily routine overwhelmed with stress and anxiety. Children and adolescents often struggle with a wide range of emotional and behavioral disturbances such as withdrawal from friends, school avoidance or sudden change in grades. Running away, defiance toward authority at home and in school, and depression, eating disorders, abuse of alcohol and drugs, attachment issues and self-harming. NAMI MASS, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Massachusetts along with NAMI Central Middlesex affiliate are offering an educational program – “NAMI Basics”, specially designed for parents and other caregivers of adolescents and children living with emotional or behavioral challenges recognized before the age of 14. The course is taught by trained family volunteer teachers who themselves are parents/caregivers of chil-

dren living with emotional difficulties. This structure creates an intimacy that few programs possess and consequently, a program now whose capacities are unparalleled. It is an evidenced based program and recognized across the country. The BASICS program runs for six consecutive weeks each class lasting 2 ½ hours. There is no cost to participants and the materials are provided by NAMI. The programs goal is to provide the fundamentals of caring for, you, your family and your child with the emotional difficulties. Up to date current information on common disorders in children, research related to the biology of these disorders and the most effective treatment strategies available – including various therapies and role of medication sometimes utilized as part of treatment will be covered. In addition, workshops in problem solving, listening and communication skills are highlighted. You will learn about methods of working with both school and the mental health care systems, how to create a record keeping system and emphasis on

Littleton Freemasons To Host Open House Littleton Freemasons are inviting the public to learn more about Freemasonry at an open house to be held at the Tahattawan Lodge, 310 King St. in Littleton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Tahattawan Lodge was instituted in January of 1929 when several Littleton Masons, meeting in Ayer, choose to create a Lodge to serve the town and residents of Littleton. The name of the Lodge was chosen to honor Chief Tahattawan of the Nashoba tribe. The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts was established in 1733 and is the third-oldest Grand Lodge in the world. Today there are almost 50,000 Freemasons in Massachusetts that meet in some 270 individual Lodges in cities and towns throughout the commonwealth. The Masons contribute more than $2 million each day to charity. The Shriners, a Masonic organization, operates a national network of Children’s Hospitals and Burn Centers. One of these is the Shriner’s Burns Hospital

in Boston, where more than 3,700 children are treated each year at the hospital’s clinic. Freemasons also operate the Shriner’s Orthopedic Hospital in Springfield. Treatment at all these institutions is provided at no charge to the patients or their families. Freemasons are responsible for collecting more than 80 percent of the blood collected for the Red Cross in Massachusetts – more than 20,000 pints annually. They also provide more than $200,000 in scholarships each year. Masonic Lodges promote child safety through the Child Identification Program (CHIP). To date, over 300,000 Massachusetts children have participated in this highly successful program. The Tahattawan Lodge of Littleton also operates its own Angel Fund which benefits local children in need of clothing, school fees, school supplies and other necessities. School Administrators, Teachers, and Guidance Counselors make a request to the Angel Fund when a Child has a need, and the Lodge meets that need, usually anonymously. Since the program’s inception Tahattawan Lodge’s Angel Fund has donated more than $25,000 to local Children. Massachusetts Freemasonry membership is open to all men age 18 and over, regardless of race or religion, and offers a

wide range of opportunities for community service, personal improvement, leadership and fun. More information on Tahattawan Lodge can be found at tahattawan.com. More information on Massachusetts Freemasonry can be found at massfreemasonry.org.

Come Ye To The Fair! What better way to spend a pleasant fall Saturday than visiting an old-fashioned church fair? On October 27, the Littleton Congregational Church is hosting a traditional fair at the renovated building at 330 King Street. Depending on the resources we have on hand, we can usually provide between $300 and $800 to the needy family.
