Hi, my name is Ajax and I'm holding a very special competition where the grand prize is more valuable than endless fields of catnip.... a furever friendship with ME! The rules are pretty simple. All you need to do is introduce yourself to me and one of my charmed humans will sign you up. Then i'll gleefully announce that EVERYONE wins (except for fleas since I'm allergic). Whether you are a kindred kitty, human, a child or my new parents, my heart is eager to embrace yours. They say I'm between 7-9 years old, and there is so much pent up love inside me that it will take years to spread it around. I'm an easy-going, full-figured fellow who does enjoy some light exercise, mostly living room aerobics, but the important thing is that your lap or a snuggle pile awaits me nearby. Let me prove it to you! The CCC is in need of supplies, especially litter (Scoop Away), bleach, laundry detergent, dry and wet cat and kitten food (Purina/Friskies), paper towels, trash bags, and treats! Any help is very much appreciated! We are located at 289 Thompson Road in Webster and are open Thursday through Sunday 12pm-3:30pm. You can see more of our adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-pet and we would love it if you would follow us and share our kitties on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com /pages/Community-Cat Connection/18375625177438. Please email us at info@ccatconnect.org for any questions!

ALL THINGS THANKSGIVING 4 tips to keep pantry pests off your holiday invite list this year (BPT) - When it comes time to plan your holiday guest list, your invitees generally fall into one of two groups: those you want to invite, and those you feel you must. There is a third group, however, that's never intentionally included on any guest list: pests. Whether by box or by bag, pantry pests such as Indian meal moths, merchant grain beetles, cockroaches and ants can invade your home without your knowledge and wreak havoc on your holiday cheer. Suddenly, your "must-invite" list doesn't look too bad. Pantry pests can infest common
baking ingredients such as flour, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate and more. They flock to secluded food sources like your pantry and can become major nuisances to homeowners due to their quick ability to infest an area in a short amount of time. To protect your goods and the rest of your home from pests this holiday season and beyond, apply these tips from the National Pest Management Association today. • Make it a total kitchen effort. Your work to protect the cleanliness of your pantry will be more successful if you are vigilant about your entire kitchen. This means routinely emptying trash receptacles, clearing crumbs from countertops, scrubbing the floors and running the dishwasher. The more uninviting to pests you can

ALL THINGS THANKSGIVING Dining etiquette rules Proper dining etiquette has a place whether you’re enjoying a meal at a five-star restaurant, a fast-food joint or at home. While there are some written rules about social etiquette, there also are unwritten rules rooted in courtesy. By following these guidelines, any dining experience can go smoothly. Put down the phone When dining out or attending a party, direct your attention to fellow guests or dining partners and not your devices. Turn off the ringer, resist the urge to check the sports score, wait to text a friend until you’re done, and devote your attention to the meal.
Patience is a virtue Restaurant wait times are not an exact science. Restaurant hostesses can offer an estimate, but it’s impossible to say exactly when you’ll be seated. Do not take frustrations out on the staff. If time is of the essence, dine during off-peak hours or visit a less busy establishment. Go sparingly on substitutions Restaurants should be willing to cater to certain requests, especially if food allergies are a concern. However, do not act like the establishment is your personal kitchen. Make reasonable requests.
Keep children in check Dining out with children presents an opportunity to teach them manners. To avoid meltdowns, be sure children are well-rested and have had a snack before arriving. Be punctual Avoid scenes that disturb other Make and keep reservations, which diners; take the child outside to help keep the flow of the dinner calm down if he or she acts up. Foodborne illness, also known as food poisoning, is caused by harmful bacteria growing in food. Few people can detect changes in the taste or texture of contaminated food, so it can be difficult to know if an item is dangerous to eat, says The Mayo Clinic. Bacteria grow well in what is termed “the danger zone.” This is between 40 F and 140 F. Many instances of foodborne illness can be prevented through proper food handling, which begins when food is purchased and continues during the cooking process, culminating in the safe storage of leftovers. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service recommends refrigerating leftovers within two hours of cooking food or holding it hot. All food that has been left out for more than two hours should be discarded if it is perishable. The Mayo Clinic advises that most leftovers can be kept between three to four days in the refrigerator. If they will not be eaten in that time frame, it’s best to freeze the food for a later time. When frozen, some foods can last between three and four months. To cool food rapidly and deter the growth of bacteria, separate food into small, shallow containers. Cut large items of food into smaller portions to cool. Do not allow foods to cool on the counter before storing them in the refrigerator. Thawing out leftovers presents another possible safety issue. Use a cold water bath, the refrigerator or the microwave to defrost frozen leftovers. Refrigerated foods can simply be reheated. Safe handling of leftovers can help prevent illness and ensure that leftover food does not go to waste.

A recent Coinstar survey, conducted among 2,000 adults by Atomik Research, uncovered some of these hidden attitudes toward the holidays. The findings revealed truths behind the following five myths we often cling to when it comes to the holiday season. Myth No. 1: Regifting is in poor taste Many people have a secret stash tucked into drawers and stuffed way back into closets: Presents from the past they don't really want but the guilt is too strong to let them go. If you think regifting is a tacky solution to lightening the load, here's a good secret you should know. Nearly two-thirds of us (65 percent) do it anyway, according to the survey. So if you can picture your aunt's wide grin when she sees that over-the-top holiday sweater, by all means, wrap it up and give it to her. She'll commend you for your excellent taste and your holiday budget will also give a tiny gasp of relief. Myth No. 2: Sticking to a holiday budget is just too hard After past failures to make a holiday budget, you decided it's just easier to close your eyes and dive into a credit coma until January. Because it's impossible to keep up with the unexpected extras that keep popping up: added gifts, events, replacement decorations, holiday attire and food. Here's a reality check. Some 68 percent of people stick to a holiday budget. Maybe past failures can be chalked up to not having enough information to create a good plan. Look back on last year's bank and credit card statements to help you make a better plan for this year.

Myth No. 3: Adding spare change to your budget doesn't add up These days, you think pocket change won't even cover the cost of a cup of coffee. Which is why you may not be in the habit of counting on your change to fill out your holiday budget. Remember this: Most people who cash in spare change have more than they think, and according to the survey that's about $78 on average. So don't discount the power of pocket change. Grab a container and explore the nooks and crannies of your house just to see what you find. Check handbags, car consoles, spare change jars, dresser drawers and sofa cushions. With this new cash stash, you can easily knock out an item or two on your budget. Myth No. 4: Spending time with family is what the holidays are all about No better occasion than the holidays to spend quality time with your family, eating a delicious meal, followed by opening gifts in the soft glow of the fireplace and twinkling lights. If picturing your extended family in this idyllic holiday scene is more than a stretch of the imagination, you're not alone. One in five people say they'd rather bow out of the family celebration. In fact, they'd prefer to spend time with friends, be alone or go to work. But for those who enjoy
family time, holidays are perfect for the one behind the most talkedabout, flashiest or best gift at the making new memories. gathering. Whatever the motivation, Myth No. 5: Gift-giving comes keep on giving. from the heart Ideally, every single gift is a pure Now that you know the truth behind expression of love and generosity some common holiday myths, from the giver, right? Wrong. You give your holiday spending power probably have a competitive gift a boost by visiting the nearest giver in your group. And maybe Coinstar kiosk. Cash in your extra it's even you! How to properly store summer clothes to avoid a pest infestation (BPT) - As colder weather approaches, you may decide to store some of your summer clothes. However, when warmer temperatures roll around again, you might not find those shorts and tank tops exactly as you left them. Certain insects that feed on fabrics and textiles can leave your carefully stored clothing damaged and full of holes. But don't despair! Your shirts aren't necessarily doomed. With some tips from Terminix, you can learn what kinds of bugs damage fabric and how you can best protect your outfits in storage.

How do you store your clothes safely? Another key to keeping your stored clothes bug-free is to clean them before packing them away. Stains can attract hungry pests, so be sure to remove any obvious ones such as food or oil before boxing things up. Make sure to keep the area where you're storing your clothing as clean as possible as well. Whether you're keeping things in a box, a closet
or your attic, vacuum the area and wipe down any shelves and walls. How do you handle an infestation? If you find yourself with damaged clothes and an infestation too big to tackle alone, it's time to contact a specialist. Trained pest control professionals, such as Terminix's technicians, can help remove destructive pests so you can store your undamaged summer clothes safely in the future.
