Harrington Holds Dedication Ceremony for 3D Mammography Machine Benefactor
Fax: 508-943-5320 www.SmartShopperAd.com Email ads to: SubmitAds@SmartShopperAd.com Hours: 8:30 – 5:00 Monday – Friday and by appointment
Harrington recently held a special dedication ceremony in honor of Lorraine Martel, a Southbridge resident, generous volunteer and advocate for Harrington HealthCare System. After she passed way, she left the hospital a gift of money which covered the cost of the 3D mammography machine in Southbridge. 3D imaging enhances the ability to detect some breast cancers earlier. It has also been shown to reduce the chance of additional imaging thus lowering the number of false positive mammograms. The 3D machine in Southbridge continues to be booked solid daily. Martel's cousin, Charlene Richard (who spend more than 40 years working at Harrington herself!) attended the ceremony. Pictured, L to R: Jess Calcidise, VP of nursing and ancillary departments; Richard, and Harrington President and CEO Ed Moore.

Local Dining Spots Foster Community Dining out is a great way to celebrate life’s milestones or simply reconnect with friends and loved ones. Research firm NPD Group found that, by the end of 2015, restaurant visits by consumers increased by 700 million compared to just five years prior. While chain restaurants invest heavily in advertising, independently owned restaurants do not have those same resources. Multi-unit chains also have more pull with suppliers and might be able to negotiate better deals, or can spread operational costs across various locations. Furthermore, local establishments, although concerned about making a profit, may be less worried about table turnover rate, preferring to let diners linger if it means repeat business. • Familiar faces: Some diners enjoy being a “regular” at their favorite local restaurants. Local dining spots also become gathering locations for residents in the know, instead of passing-through tourists or commuters. Much can be said about the advantages of patronizing local eateries. Sending Greeting Cards
Greeting cards are a popular method of correspondence throughout the year. Cards are purchased for birthdays, graduations and milestone events. One of the more popular times of the year to find cards purchased and sent in bulk is during the holiday season. The Greeting Card Association claims 1.6 billion Christmas card units (including boxed cards) are purchased for Christmas. Many people consider sending cards essential to their holiday traditions. Here are some statistics on greeting cards and ways to improve upon your Christmas card sending process. • Women purchase an estimated 80 percent of all greeting cards and will spend more time choosing a card than men.
• The vast majority of individually purchased cards are between $2 and $4 in price. Christmas card economy is found by purchasing boxed cards in bulk.
• Buy extra cards than you think you need. This way you can send reciprocal greetings to a person who has mailed you a card this year. • If you want your card to stand out from the masses, consider sending • The visual design of a greeting it separately from the big holidays. card is the first to capture a person’s Thanksgiving or New Year’s cards attention, but the saying within will can be unique. have a greater impact. registries. Some couples might feel it’s inappropriate, but it can actually prove practical. Many stores offer couples steep discounts on items they listed on their registries that ultimately were not purchased. If you have your eye on an especially expensive item, include it on your list without worrying about how it may look to your guests, as they will understand when you explain the post-wedding discount you’re eligible for.
• Remember that no gift is too obscure. Thanks to the Internet, just about any item can now be tracked down by ambitious gift givers. If you want to include items that might not be available at run-ofthe-mill retailers, choose an online retailer such as Amazon to host one of your registries. Such sites are great places to find specialty items or more obscure offerings that might be out of stock at more traditional retailers.
• Don’t limit your registry to expensive items. While it’s perfectly acceptable to include expensive items on your registry, remember that variety is the spice of life when adding items to your registry. Include items at a range of price points for guests working with various budgets. Don’t hesitate to include low-cost items, as some guests may enjoy building a wedding gift basket with various affordable items from your registry.
• Encourage donations. If you are truly hesitant to ask for gifts or you’re tying the knot later in life and already have everything you need, encourage guests to donate to a favorite charity in lieu of making a donation. A wedding registry provides a practical way for well-meaning wedding guests to show their love for brides- and grooms-to-be.

Birthday Party Pointers To Make Kids, Parents Happy
• Develop backup plans. There’s no accounting for the weather, illness, venue cancellations, or food flops. Always have a plan B (and, ideally, a plan C and plan D) so that the kids can stay entertained.
• Trim the guest list. Parents should not feel the need to invite every acquaintance to their children’s birthday parties. Parents understandably don’t want to exclude or offend anyone by leaving them off the guest list. However, try to limit the guests to around 10, including the guest of honor. This makes the entire party more manageable.

• Propane tanks are constructed of heavy steel and are specially painted with a mastic coating to prevent corrosion. Environmentally friendly, a propane tank will typically last for 30 to 40 years. • Single-family homes can be fueled by tanks of varying sizes, depending on demand. Smaller 100-gallon tanks provide energy for appliances, while 1,000+ gallon tanks can fuel very large homes with additional energy demands, such as swimming pools, hot tubs, outdoor kitchens, and patio lighting. Generally, 500-gallon tanks easily accommodate an average four-bedroom home. • Once installed, underground tanks are scarcely noticeable except for filling connections and valves which are housed in a small dome protruding just inches above the ground. Standard landscaping is often done around the dome and over the spot where the tank is buried. • Can be installed FREE of charge. Certain restrictions apply. I don't know why I'm in this cage. I know I'm too heavy and my person has disappeared but I'm not being punished, am I? I know I get to walk around and to pick cages but I'm scared. Everyone seems kind and Faze in the next cage has been in for a chat and cheered me up a bit. Even so I don't want to be here. I want a soft bed in a quiet place with someone to love and care for me. I don't have any claws in the front and am super affectionate once I get to know you. (How can I not be with a name like Nugs!) Not too much to ask, is it? I'm 7, have no bad habits and have a beautiful brown tabby coat. I wouldn't be a problem to have around. I'm so worried. Please come. The CCC is in need of supplies, especially litter (Scoop Away), bleach, laundry detergent, dry and wet cat and kitten food (Purina/Friskies), paper towels, trash bags, and treats! Any help is very much appreciated! We are located at 289 Thompson Road in Webster and are open Thursday through Sunday 12pm-3:30pm. You can see more of our adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-pet and we would love it if you would follow us and share our kitties on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com /pages/Community-Cat Connection/18375625177438.
