Yoda

31 Thompson Road Webster, MA 01570 Tel: 508-943-5300 Yoda, my name is, and fall head over heels for me, you will! So maybe I'm not THAT Yoda, but I do have some special abilities, which include (but are not limited to) power-eating, irresistibly cute purr-meows, and a bright eyed come-hither snuggle-me stare that is not unlike a Jedi mind trick. I've also won countless titles across the galaxy for being the most lovable roly poly in my weight class! You'll see what I mean when I flop onto my back and show you my belly. I should probably mention that I am a proper Lady of only six years, just in case my name gave you a different impression. Anyway, as much as I would relish a lap to melt into and a window to gaze out of, what I need most is unconditional love and a tender heart who will be patient with me. It's been too long since I've had a true home and I get a little touchy at times, so I would especially like to have cat-sensitive purrents who don't have any youngsters running around. I know I can be the apple of your eye if you'll come see me, so I'll expect you as soon as the doors open! You are my only hope, and I AM the cat you're looking for. The CCC is in need of supplies, especially litter (Scoop Away), bleach, laundry detergent, dry and wet cat and kitten food (Purina/Friskies), paper towels, trash bags, and treats! Any help is very much appreciated! We are located at 289 Thompson Road in Webster and are open Thursday through Sunday 12pm-3:30pm. You can see more of our adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-pet and we would love it if you would follow us and share our kitties on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com /pages/Community-Cat Connection/18375625177438. Women in Business Announces September Luncheon SOUTHBRIDGE - Woman in Business, Inc. (WIB), a Sturbridgearea support group of dynamic women of all types of careers, has announced its September luncheon. Held Wednesday, September 12 at the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center, the informative session will focus on the “Me, Too” movement -- what employers are doing, what employees should know, and what changes are happening on a state and national level. #MeToo spread virally in October 2017 as a hashtag used on social media in an attempt to demonstrate the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the workplace. Since then, it is a topic that countless women have responded to with their own stories and experiences. It also launched a movement that continues to call out and bring down men in all spheres of business and politics, who are now being held accountable for their actions and inaction. WIB welcomes the public to join the conversation with Lisa Mason, SHRM-SCP, and Amelia J. Holstrom, Esq. Lisa is the Director of Human Resources for Harrington HealthCare System, a position she has held since 2009. In this role, she provides leadership and counsel in HR matters including employee relations, salary administration, benefits, staffing, compliance, training and education to the healthcare system’s 1,400 employees. She has also designed, developed and delivered training programs including employee engagement, sexual harassment prevention and employment law. Prior to her role at Harrington, Lisa was the HR Director for the (then) Hubbard Regional Hospital. She has more than 30 years of experience in HR, including 13 years at Allmerica Financial (now Hanover Insurance) where she managed employee relations and staff development for 6,000 employees.

August 22, 2018

Amelia is an Attorney with Skoler, Abbott and Presser, P.C., with offices in Springfield and Worcester. Since 1964, Skoler Abbott has exclusively represented management and employers in the fields of labor relations and employment law. Skoler Abbott’s clients range from small, not-forprofit agencies to national Fortune 500 companies. Since joining the firm, Amelia has provided legal advice to employers who want to remain union-free; represented clients at arbitrations; and defended employers against claims of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, as well as actions arising under wage & hour law and other state and federal laws. Additionally, Amelia frequently provides counsel to management on taking proactive steps to reduce the risk of legal liability that may be imposed as the result of employment practices, including comprehensive policy and handbook reviews. She is a current member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for GSCWM; member of the Board for Clinical and Support Options, Inc.; and an ad hoc Member of the Personnel Committee for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. Amelia was a selected as a 40 Under Forty honoree by BusinessWest in 2015; received the Massachusetts Bar Association Community Service Award in 2016, and was named as an Up & Coming Lawyer Honoree by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for its Excellence in the Law Event in 2017.

Brides magazine suggests that couples avoid choosing too many colors. A maximum of three with one metallic can ensure that things look cohesive without being overthe-top. Also, brides and grooms needn’t feel pressured by the “hot” colors of the moment. As with clothing and hairstyles, trends change. It is better to select colors that will stand the test of time and look good for years to come.

The Allied Survey found that 54 percent of companies that offered such packages covered moving expenses, while 21 percent gave new hires a lump sum of money to use as they deemed necessary. One in five companies even sponsored trips to search for homes. Adults who are offered relocation packages should get the specifics so they can start creating moving budgets. • Emphasize organization. Much of the stress associated with relocating can be traced to the logistics of uprooting oneself and one’s family. Men and women who are unaccustomed to making lists may want to start, as doing so can help keep track of all the tasks that need to be completed before hitting the road. Various unique tasks, from canceling utilities to changing insurance policies, must be completed before moving, and it’s easy to lose track of what’s been done and what hasn’t. Maintaining a to-do list and checking off tasks as

they’re completed can simplify the relocation process. • Rent your first home. The Allied survey found that 31 percent of respondents indicated the most challenging part of relocating for a job was finding a home, while 29 percent felt acclimating to their new community was the most challenging aspect of their relocation. Adults who rent their first homes upon relocating can remove some of the pressure to find the perfect home, knowing full well their first home in their new community will be temporary. If possible, rent in a location that makes it easy to immerse yourself in your new community, which should make the adjustment easier. In addition, place items that are unnecessary for day-to-day life in storage. Having some of your possessions already packed should make your next move less stressful. Relocating for a job can be exciting and stressful. But there are ways to make moving go smoothly.

September 27th Southbridge 100 Years Ago: Exploring the Franco-American Community presented by Dr. Elizabeth Blood SOUTHBRIDGE - Please join the Jacob Edwards Public Library

on Thursday, September 27 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm for a special presentation. Between 1840 and 1930, approximately one million FrenchCanadians immigrated to the United States, the vast majority settling in New England. In Southbridge, Massachusetts a century ago, when state representative Félix Gatineau published his important chronicle of the town’s Franco-American community, French-speaking immigrants and their American-born children represented 60% of the town’s population! Gatineau’s History of Franco-Americans of Southbridge, Massachusetts, originally written in French in 1919, has just been translated into English by Dr. Elizabeth Blood of Salem State University and will be published through Via Appia Press (viaappiapress.com) in September. In this talk, Dr. Blood will offer a glimpse of what life was like for FrenchCanadians in Southbridge one hundred years ago, highlighting the role that the French-Canadian community played in establishing many of the town’s political, cultural, business, and religious institutions and offering insight into the fascinating character of Félix Gatineau, himself. Books will be available for purchase at the event. All welcome! Light refreshments provided by the Friends of Jacob Edwards Library This program is presented in conjunction with The Last Green Valley Walktober series that encompasses activities in 35 towns in the southern Worcester County area of Massachusetts and into Connecticut following the path of the Quinebaug and Shetucket rivers Sponsored by Friends of Jacob Edwards Library and The Last Green Valley Walktober.
