PUTNAM: The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut at the Bradley Playhouse is excited to bring to the stage its summer musical production of The Music Man. This American as apple pie show opens August 3rd and runs for three weekends. Performances are August 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 7:30 pm and August 5, 12 and 19 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $24.00 for adults and $21.00 for seniors and students. Book, music and lyrics are by Meredith Willson. The Music Man is based on a story by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey, which was inspired by Willson’s boyhood in Mason City, Iowa.

The play opened on Broadway in 1957 and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The cast album won the first Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Robert Preston appeared in the original cast as Harold Hill and reprised the role in the 1962 film version. Eddie Albert, Bert Parks and Dick Van Dyke have also appeared on stage in the role. SOUTHBRIDGE: The Center of Hope Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit agency serving adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities recently sent one of its staff “Over the Edge”. On July 14th Felix Vega, a Center of Hope employee for five years, volunteered to repel 220 feet down the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Boston, MA to fundraise for Special Olympics. His efforts raised over $1,600 for the agency’s Special Olympics Program. Dressed up as the super hero, Wolverine, Felix said, “I felt like I was playing the part with superhuman senses, agility and reflexes”. When asked why he chose to volunteer and do something so crazy he said, “I love to be adventurous. In the past I have zip lined and went sky diving. When I was offered this opportunity, I had to take it, I may never get the chance to repel off a building again. I got to meet a lot of people all while supporting such a great cause”. The Center of Hope prides itself on being able to support our Special Olympics Teams and are thankful to have employees like Felix that donate their time and efforts to help achieve its mission and goals.
