What does the prettiest Minu in the world want for the holidays? She wants four walls filled with love and at least one purrson to share it with. That isn't too much to ask for from a senior girl like me, is it? I'm not very vocal here at the shelter - after fifteen years of life, I've learned to pipe down when the little ones are squawking for attention, but that doesn't mean my day isn't lit up like a Christmas tree when somebody opens the door to my cage for some wonderful head-rubs or chin-scritches. I'm a little shy in such a happening place, but I've recently become comfortable enough to give kisses when people visit me. I purr too! I think I look pretty furrtastic for my age, but if I can't be your only kitty, I humbly request that my one fuzzy roommate be a calm senior as well. A relaxed household would be my ideal, without the pitter-patter of little feet, but I could appreciate some extra love from teenagers who are calm, refined and considerate like me! Not only am I beautiful and soft inside and out, but I'm healthy too. There's no telling how many golden years I have left to share with you, especially if you take as good care of me as I want to take care of you. The CCC is in need of supplies, especially litter (Scoop Away), bleach, laundry detergent, dry and wet cat and kitten food (Purina/Friskies), paper towels, trash bags, and treats! Any help is very much appreciated! We are located at 289 Thompson Road in Webster and are open Thursday through Sunday 12pm-3:30pm. You can see more of our adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-pet and we would love it if you would follow us and share our kitties on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com /pages/Community-Cat Connection/18375625177438. Please email us at info@ccatconnect.org for any questions!

Celebrate safely this New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate. But for hundreds of people each year, the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day proves fatal.
December 26, 2018
alcohol is part and parcel during New Year’s Eve celebrations. Such behavior puts everyone at risk, even people who don’t drive. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, conservative estimates suggest that roughly one-half of sexual assaults on American women involve alcohol consumption by the perpetrator, victim or both. While alcohol and its relationship to traffic fatalities draw the bulk of the attention on New Year’s Eve, even people who don’t intend to drive should recognize the dangers of overindulging in alcohol and drink responsibly.
According to fatality data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over the last five years an average of 300 people died in drunk driving fatalities between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Holiday celebrations, and New Year’s Eve festivities in particular, tend to include alcohol, raising the stakes during this festive yet too • Arrange for transportation. If often fatal time of year. you need a car to get around on New Year’s Eve and plan to drink The sobering statistics provided by alcohol, arrange for someone else the NHTSA don’t have to prevent to do your driving for you. Even people who don’t intend to leave their homes can take steps to make New Year’s Eve safer for everyone. If you’re hosting a party at home, do so responsibly, making sure none of your guests overindulge and making the party less about drinking and more about having fun. Shift the focus from toasting drinks to games and activities that don’t include alcohol. Make sure to have plenty of food and nonalcoholic beverages on hand and encourage people who are drinking to eat full meals and
drink water throughout the night. People who fill up on food and water during the party may feel full, which may discourage them from having extra drinks. While many people will expect to drink alcohol on New Year’s Eve, don’t stock up on too much alcohol, the availability of which may encourage guests to overindulge. Hosts also should keep the phone numbers of local taxi services handy just in case some guests cannot drive themselves home safely. New Year’s Eve should be as festive as possible. Celebrating responsibly can ensure everyone has a fun and safe time.
In Finland, each new year family and friends gather to burn metal in a pan for a ritual called "molybdomancy".

6 tips for avoiding charity scams (BPT) - Charitable giving is a significant part of many people's lives and budgets and individuals are often eager to give back and lend a helping hand to those in need. Unfortunately, not every organization seeking a donation is exactly what it claims to be. If you're not careful, you could wind up losing your well-intentioned money to a scam. Don't let the threat of scammers keep you from supporting the causes you care about. By staying educated and informed about charity cons, you will be prepared to spot a scam and avoid falling victim to fraud.

Scammers will try to work quickly, urging you to donate before you find any holes in their story. "If you get a phone call where someone is wanting a donation, don't act right away. Do your research and donate to a recognized charity," advised Western Union Senior Manager of Anti-Fraud Operations John Skoglund. Remember, authentic charities won't push you for an immediate response, and will be happy to accept a donation at any time.
Do your research Don't be afraid to ask for details about an organization. The charity should happily provide them. You can also find a third-party source for information such as Charity Navigator or the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. Gallery hours: TuesdayFriday 10-6:30, Saturday 10-5. Artist statement: Photography has always been a part of my life. From the little 110 camera I received as a present in the early 80s, to the DSLRs I use today. High school provided me with a very wacky, out of the box thinker for a photography teacher, whom I credit for letting me see the world a little bit differently. My eye wanders to many different things to shoot, but those high school years shooting black & white film has taught me to love leading lines & textures. I love a rusty car & and peeling paint on an old building! Being a great influence, Ansel Adams taught me to search out landscapes. I love catching a dramatic sky, morning mists or a firey sunrise! Pops of color & finding the “slices of life” among our everyday existence is what you can also find in my work. I grew up in Indiana, moving to Massachusetts just under 20 years ago. Married to an amazing woman & father to a teen daughter, I spend
my spare time shooting, reading & building plastic model kits. As an avid geek, I also love to hang with my geeky “MA clan”, play Dungeons & Dragons, board games & selling home made & re-purposed items at Comicons. I credit my wife, Kymm, with kicking me in the tush to get out there & start selling my photography.
