My name is Vera and I'm a pretty little wallflower who is ready to blossom for the right family. I'm only two years old and have the kitten-like squeak to prove it, along with two giant green eyes that are ever curious and excited to behold everything happening around us. Though I am inquisitive by nature and will watch you all day long, you may not even notice me behind you at times because of how quiet I am. You won't find me fighting with any other cats that you might have in your home - I actually enjoy the company of furry whiskered friends so long as they are docile like me. Rowdy little children are not my cup of milk either, but older, cat experienced kids are okay if they respect me and take it slow. I'm a shy girl who loves toys, petting, cat trees with cubbies and anyone who hangs out long enough to make me purr my way into your heart. Is it you? The CCC is in need of supplies, especially litter (Scoop Away), bleach, laundry detergent, dry and wet cat and kitten food (Purina/Friskies), paper towels, trash bags, and treats! Any help is very much appreciated! We are located at 289 Thompson Road in Webster and are open Thursday through Sunday 12pm-3:30pm. You can see more of our adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-pet and we would love it if you would follow us and share our kitties on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com /pages/Community-Cat Connection/18375625177438. Popular trends in the restaurant industry Dining out is no longer reserved for celebrating milestones or other special occasions. Many people dine out regularly for meals. A 2016 Gallup poll found that 61 percent of Americans eat dinner out at least once a week, and 16 percent are frequent diners, eating out three or more times per week. People who regularly dine out may have noticed some of the growing trends that have emerged in recent years that are helping to shape dining experiences. • Picked-on-property offerings: Many restaurants now serve foods grown, picked and processed on the premises. These establishments emphasize prebiotic and probiotic ingredients and focus some of their efforts on producing menus with foods that boast anti-inflammatory properties. • Streamlined menus: Food waste is a problem across the globe. Operating a sustainable restaurant requires careful decisions about the foods that make it onto the menu. Instead of offering five different chicken dishes, a restaurant may focus on two or three popular standards to cut back on waste. • Fast casual: Fast casual restaurants do not offer full table service, but offer a higher quality of food than traditional fast-food restaurants. Avoid chilling accidents with these tips to winterize your home Avoid chilling accidents by winterizing your home

(BPT) - Winter will be here before you know it. The season has a way of sneaking up on you and before you realize you're not ready, the first chilling breezes have already arrived. Begin with winterizing your home now to ensure you're prepared for the season. Apply the following tips and your home will be winter ready in no time. • Prime your plumbing. If you live in an area where freezing pipes are a threat, this is one area you'll want to correct immediately. A frozen pipe that bursts can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars, depending on damage. Shut off any water lines tied to outdoor spigots and your sprinkler system if you have one. Indoor pipes running along the exterior walls of your home are also potential freezing risks, so cover them with a towel or wrap to insulate them through the season. • Be sure your heating system is ready for the season. The

October 10, 2018

importance of your home's heating system during the winter cannot be understated. If it isn't up to the test, replace it now before winter arrives. The York(R) Affinity(TM) Series YZT two-stage heat pump offers a two-stage compressor to deliver higher energy efficiency and quieter operation. A smart home integration is easy with the YORK(R) Affinity(TM) Hx3(TM) 4.3-inch Touch-Screen Thermostat. Control your home's temperature by voice command or by using your smartphone when you're away from home. Program auto-alerts to stay aware of necessary maintenance and replace the filter each month to ensure your home heating system performs at its best all season long. • Have your home audited. Unhappy Gut? Some People Suffer for Years Before Seeing a Doctor (StatePoint) Abdominal pain? Diarrhea? An estimated 16 million Americans live with a type of irritable bowel syndrome called IBS-D (the D stands for diarrhea), and it affects both men and women almost equally. However, only 30 percent of individuals consult a physician about their symptoms. Why is that? “People who experience symptoms of IBS-D can feel like their symptoms are not severe enough to seek medical attention or that there isn’t anything doctors can do to help,” says Dr. Howard Franklin, vice president of medical affairs and strategy at Salix Pharmaceuticals. "But doctors want to hear about everything you are feeling so they can determine the underlying cause of your discomfort and help you find a treatment plan that is right for you.” A closer look at IBS-D Symptoms of IBS-D, which are different in everyone, include stomach pain and cramping, frequent diarrhea, gas, bloating and an urgency to use the bathroom. Many people experience feeling frustrated, missing out on activities because of symptoms and avoiding situations where there is no bathroom nearby. IBS-D can be diagnosed based on symptom history, including: • Abdominal pain at least one day a week during the last three months

• More than 25 percent of bowel movements are loose or watery (diarrhea), and less than 25 percent are hard or lumpy (constipation)
