I am grateful because…….
I am grateful because St. Michael’s was able to secure personal protective equipment, upgraded HEPA filtration systems, hand sanitizing stations throughout the school, and a dedicated touchless handwashing room. The school also installed plexiglass protective barriers, safety signage, and invested in a mandatory COVID-19 daily screening app. I am also grateful for our staff and faculty who came together in very adverse circumstances to transition and deliver our programme. With the best available health and safety measures in place, our programme thrived as we seamlessly and successfully moved from in-person to virtual classes. Together we were able to ensure that SMCS continued to provide an authentic St. Michael’s College School education under the direction and inspiration of the Basilian Fathers.
Dear St. Michael’s College School Community, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
The theme for this year’s Annual Double Blue Campaign focuses on the humble gift of gratitude. During these very uncertain times in our world, faced with an ongoing pandemic, St. Michael’s College School continues to be grateful for the blessings of our school community. Our focus and commitment to our students and to you, the dedicated and loyal members of our community, remains unwavering. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted how we educate our students and more importantly how we gather as a community. St. Michael’s has always been a bustling second home to every member of our community. However, with the health and safety restrictions brought on by the pandemic in March, our halls fell quiet and still. The reality of a virtual world required new and different ways of thinking to ensure the best possible Catholic education remained accessible to our students. Building relationships with our community also went through a necessary transition and we are grateful for your support, cooperation, and loyalty.
Our newly minted Class of 2020 displayed their resilience again as they moved from the traditional graduation exercises to a physically distanced Arch Walk in the spring followed by an online awards ceremony in October. Not a day goes by that I am not grateful for and humbled by the support and generosity of the SMCS community. Many have stepped forward to assist us during this unprecedented time. We sincerely appreciate your support and partnership in our mission. On behalf of the Basilian Fathers, students, faculty, and staff, we thank you for your prayers and support during the last academic year and into the future. Yours in Christ,
Fr. Andrew Leung, CSB President
