MY EXPERIENCE EDITORIAL

INDUSTRY TO REVIVE SWIFTLY SANJAY MOHAPATRA

sanjay@smechannels.com

Dear Friends Industry BAs per one of the reports, IT, pharma, metals, consumer staples and export-oriented goods are well-placed for now, as the global demand has improved. Therefore, the change in demand for IT is not that much in this sector. Housing sector is likely to revive soon so would be the demand for IT in this sector. Manufacturing is low now so there is a chance that manufacturing would improve and open opportunity for the ICT sector including FTTH and other solutions. Entire services sector is low now for 3-4 quarters, this would offer an opportunity for the ICT sector to surge. I think overall there is a healthy sign for the industry and chances of recovery is stronger. My assumption is based on the government reaction to the entire situation. I think government reaction to handling surging covid-19 cases was not at all healthy and impressive but post that government under the leadership of Modi as strong as ever. One can see the way it is playing its foreign policy – specially to the Afghan situation or dealing with its neighbours or diplomatic relation with other countries. The action of the government has imposed faith of people and continuing. Bengal election is an old story now for the present government and there is no sign of instability. The major example is growth in NSC and BSE, which are not changing much. Plus, the currency value is remaining same. We can see rush in IPOs and M&A in recent time. All the new scripts are being over-subscribed. One of the major newspapers has quoted that India is saying – “Indian IPO market is on Fire”. The argument is if the sentiment is low how the IPOs are over-subscribed. So, the sentiment is good enough in the domestic market. The hind side is that SME/SMB business must innovate and go digital to survive and employment condition must grow faster. These two things are fallacies and keep on surfacing every now and then. So, I believe - “business as usual soon” and our partner community need not to worry.

VPN demand grows together with concerns about users’ privacy As International VPN Day is approaching, a digital privacy expert talks about how virtual private networks are becoming mainstream According to Google Trends, over the past 8 years, interest in virtual private networks (VPN) has doubled and outgrown the demand for another popular cybersecurity product — an antivirus. “Spikes in the demand for VPNs usually concur with cybercrime statistics or some important political decisions related to internet surveillance or privacy in general. Virtual private networks help users to encrypt their traffic and browse with peace of mind, without third parties accessing their data. As people face the dangers or restrictions, they tend to value their privacy, security, and freedom more. That is why VPNs are becoming more of a mainstream product nowadays,” a digital privacy expert at NordVPN Daniel Markuson comments. As International VPN day will be celebrated this week on August 19, we can overview the history of how VPNs are becoming one of the top cybersecurity products of today.

Discover Hikvision’s latest ColorVu technology: even sharper imaging with brighter color, 24 hours a day Traditional video cameras provide black and white images, which can be grainy and unclear in low-light environments. To help boost security 24×7, Hikvision has created its ColorVu technology, which gives organizations high-resolution, full-color images, even in near-total darkness. Security breaches are not governed by the seasons, by the weather, and certainly not by the time of day. They can occur at any time, and often under the cover of darkness when traditional, black-andwhite security cameras with infrared lighting are unable to capture events clearly enough to collect clear evidence or respond effectively. Hikvision has expanded its full-color camera range with ColorVu technology. This offers a much better visual experience than traditional cameras, providing accurately rendered color images with balanced brightness at all times of the day or night. Now the camera range with ColorVu technology includes 4k cameras for UHD experience, and varifocal cameras for unparalleled clarity. These innovations allow organizations and local authorities to monitor outdoor or indoor spaces, identify breaches as soon as they occur, and react in real time to protect staff, employees and members of the public.

IT INDUSTRY BOUNCING BACK AFTER THE HARD HIT OF COVID19 SECOND WAVE COVID-19’s impacts are having a substantial influence on the technology sector, influencing raw material supply, altering the electronics value chain, and posing a risk of product inflation. Positively, the disruption has accelerated remote working and resulted in a rapid focus on reviewing and de-risking the entire value chain. BY NIDHI SHAIL

nidhi@accentinfomedia

The pandemic clearly had hit the IT industry hard, but it eventually found a way to evolve and become better by time and there is no second thought about it. Earlier as the whole business was dependent on the infrastructure, face to face meetings and physical presence the pandemic changed the whole dynamics of the IT business. And as the second wave of Covid-19 rapidly ascended on India and businesses that were planning to open offices, have had to go back to WFH. The demand to accommodate remote workers has increased again.

Work from home culture was never so acceptable in the Indian IT business but the pandemic made this very clear to enterprises that modernising their IT infrastructure for any eventuality is vital for their business continuity. On this Bhavesh Adhia - Head Partner Ecosystem, Yotta Infrastructure says, “As the effects of the pandemic continue to unfold, enterprises need to continue modernising their IT infrastructure to enhance employee productivity and, at the same time, provide innovative solutions to their end customers without interruptions. In the coming years,

the enterprise spending on IT services will only vault. Gartner estimates suggest that the end-user spending on IT services in India is likely to grow to $18 billion in 2021 from an increase of 10.7% in 2020. In addition, we will see a rapid uptake of cloud computing and virtual technologies to collaborate and communicate as enterprises accelerate their digital transformation. Today, Enterprises do not want to commit to capital expenses. At Yotta, we understand this and are working with our Partner ecosystem towards conceptualising, designing, and offering solutions to our customers for colocation and cloud-based services. We differentiate ourselves with our 'anything-as-a-service' model and offer services like Yotta Enterprise Cloud, Work from Anywhere (DaaS), Yotta Virtual Pro Workstations (GPU powered), High-Performance Compute, SAP solution, Endpoint Data and Recovery solution, Long term information preservation and host of other services including Network & Connectivity, Managed Security, and IT Management”.

IT industry undergoing digital transformation due to pandemic impact way more faster than ever before on this Anuj Jain, Managing Director, Eurotech Technologies comments, “Today, businesses are undergoing transformation due to pandemic impact and networks are strained by remote working, while enterprises are challenged to maintain connectivity and manage bandwidth demands. These challenges can significantly impact quality of experience if not addressed quickly and efficiently, therefore, for enterprises it is increasingly critical to monitor, upgrade, maintain and ensure that their network infrastructure is robust”.

CORPORATE STORY

And Prabhakar Jayakumar, Sr Director & Global Head at DigitalOcean says, “With everything becoming virtual these days, it is not surprising that employers are looking for the fastest way to plug and play their business on cloud. The need for desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) increasing. Cloud Computing has proven to be a transformational technology that continue to help startups and SMBs to deliver their services in a better way than before at reduced infrastructure cost”.

The only way out of these difficult times was to adapt to new technology. In this unprecedented new reality, we have witnessed a dramatic restructuring of the economic order in which businesses have traditionally operated. On this Anand Mangal, Managing Director, Lagnam Spintex says, “We started placing orders for our expansion project in Early 2018 with most stateof-the-art automated machineries for our new manufacturing Unit. There was no compromise in selecting the best machineries the world had to offer. At that time for an organization of our size we decided to invest heavily in our IT infrastructure. For the same, we picked the most suited ERP solution hosted on a very high-end servers usually used by a large multinational company. Little did we know that the investment in IT infra will pay off in such a short period of time specially when the operations were hit during the Covid19 pandemic. During the Covid-19 second wave, Manufacturing companies in Rajasthan were allowed to work with certain Covid protocol and restrictions. During the period, we relied heavily on monitoring our end-to-end operations by looking at executive reports customized for our team that was built using different sources of machine data and ERP data. Every morning these executive reports were sent from our IT system for the team to take corrective decision which led to increase in our productivity even during the second wave. This was only possible because of the most automated and data driven technology we are utilizing”.

Cyberspace is constantly evolving and presenting organizations with new opportunities, as the desire of businesses to quickly adopt new technologies, such as using the Internet to open new channels and adopting cloud services, provides vast opportunity. But, it also brings unanticipated risks and inadvertent consequences that can have a potentially negative impact. Akshat Jain, CoFounder and CTO, Cyware mentions, “The new normal has forced enterprises to accelerate their digital transformation efforts to sustain operations during the pandemic. Within this transformation, enterprises have inadvertently opened the door to cyber threats and put their data and assets at risk, potentially without even being aware. Enterprises in India need to close the gaps in their security postures by first leveraging threat intelligence to proactively defend against known adversary tactics and techniques. The more actioning of threat intelligence and the better its operationalized, the more useful it is to organizations. Second, SOAR solutions can help automate response workflows and quash potential threats before they can infiltrate the vulnerable networks and systems. For example, to counter the threats from ransomware operators, remote access hacks, and other new-age cyberattacks, enterprises need to streamline their SecOps processes and optimize their modeling by integrating diverse security functions through Virtual Cyber Fusion that combines collaboration, threat intelligence, and SOAR capabilities to deliver a 360-degree response that is comprised of people, process and technology working together”.

The past 18 months had made it clear that rapid innovation during the crisis is critical to stay undisrupted and unlock post-crisis growth. But now, the connotations of safety have broadened because the pandemic has caused more people and devices to be connected digitally than ever before. Vishak Raman, Director, Security Business, Cisco India & SAARC comments on this,” When we talk about IT modernization is not just about adopting new technologies but also about robust security architecture. With sensitive information and data being exchanged virtually, cyberattacks like identity theft and extortion attempts are rising. In India, nearly 1.16 million cases of cyberattacks were reported in 2020, almost a 300% spike over 2019. In this digitized world, people are the first line of defense, and entrenching cyber resilience into an organization’s digital transformation strategy is now a business imperative.Enterprises should simplify security through integrated cloud platforms that could detect threats and automate security functions like threat investigation and remediation. A zerotrust framework, multi-factor authentication, and VPN-controlled access to applications must be deployed to strengthen an organization’s security posture. Most importantly, awareness sessions must be held for employees to identify vulnerabilities across networks and detect malicious actors while working out-of-office.”

Conclusion….. The demand for developer and engineering skills is projected to rise as firms seek business solutions to handle distant work, social distancing, and the necessity for in-house alternatives. It will be critical to keep top talent. Cash-flow problems will put undercapitalized businesses to the test, Entail alternate sourcing and the necessity to subsidise during the crisis in order to ensure readiness in the consequences. In addition, channel partners will be able to see where the future demand can be generated in the near future.

ENHANCE BUSINESS EFFICIENCY: INTEGRATE F&A AND BUSINESS OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE SUCCESSFULLY

RAJIV MANALAL GUPTA, MD and Founder, Worxpertise Group

An accounting software is a norm for all small and medium businesses today in India. Apart from providing functionalities such as managing bills and expenses, invoicing etc. such a software also needs to be GST compatible. But what happens when a small business starts to grow and wants to organize itself in a manner that enhances its customer lifecycle value? Are the business owners putting in much of their time in manually managing different aspects of the business or important decisions are being taken with guesswork? If these are questions that is also bothering you then it is time for an unified or integrated business system – a business operations platform system that can integrate your accounting software with the various aspects of a growing business like order management, inventory management or procurement management. Once you have made the decision to integrate your accounting software with a business operations platform, what is the next step? You will look for a technology integrator. But before you start your discussions with such a partner, take a moment to understand what you want out of the integration. Here is a checklist to help you out 1. Single Entry of Data – The integration should solve the need for dual entry of data separately for your accounting software and business operations platform. The integrated system should enable single punching of data which will save man-hours for the company as well as will be a better and efficient process. The single entry of data for business operations and accounting should seamlessly integrate in the new system. 2. Single and complete view of business operations – Post the integration, you should be able to have a single view of not only your financial numbers but also the entire business operation processes. It should have complete visibility of your business data in a single dashboard; essentially you should have access to a centralized reporting experience. 3. Real-time visibility in different stages of business operations – The integration will provide real-time visibility across F&A numbers, order management system, inventory management system, procurement management system and pro-

duction planning. This would also include visibility of quality control in production and quality control in manufacturing. One point to note here is that some platforms does not allow visibility in the different stages of business operations such as like in a multi-level production process. To take an example, the functionality to look out for would be to get real time visibility on the status of availability of raw materials, finished goods or production work-in-progress in the factory, warehouse, stores or client and vendor locations. So a best in class integrated system should provide these different stage visibility as well. This will offer better projections and enable optimum business decision-making leading to better ROI and revenue growth. 4. Real-time alerts – The integrated platform should also provide business intelligence. For example, if you are punching order for a repeat customer the system should be able to provide you with alerts of last price quoted as well as real-time availability of inventory. Needless to say such multiple and proactive alerts results in quick business decision-making. 5. Transaction Authorization – Access to your unified business platform which will have sensitive data should have adequate security features. Only authorised personnel in your business should have permission to access the system. A complete user authorization enabling access to the user to the transactions should be a key feature of the integrated platform. You should also be able to track and view details about who has created, edited or approved any transaction with the time stamp. 6. Easy Reporting – Any growing business will churn out large volume of data which needs to be further studied and mined. The integrated platform should be efficient enough to provide downloadable reports in excel format and with different functionalities. 7. Seamless Integration – Last but not the least, remember that the integration need not be a complex and a long drawn affair.

BABUK: DID THEY BITE OFF MORE THAN THEY COULD CHEW WHEN THEY AIMED TO ENCRYPT VM AND *NIX SYSTEMS?

THIBAULT SERET, Security Researcher, McAfee

For a long time, ransomware gangs were mostly focused on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Yes, we observed the occasional dedicated Unix or Linux based ransomware, but cross-platform ransomware was not happening yet. However, cybercriminals never sleep and in recent months we noticed that several ransomware gangs were experimenting with writing their binaries in the cross-platform language Golang (Go). Our worst fears were confirmed when Babuk announced on an underground forum that it was developing a cross-platform binary aimed at Linux/ UNIX and ESXi or VMware systems. Many core backend systems in companies are running on these *nix operating systems or, in the case of virtualization, think about the ESXi hosting several servers or the virtual desktop environment. We touched upon this briefly in our previous blog, together with the many coding mistakes the Babuk team is making. Even though Babuk is relatively new to the scene, its affiliates have been aggressively infecting highprofile victims, despite numerous problems with the binary which led to a situation in which files could not be retrieved, even if payment was made. Ultimately, the difficulties faced by the Babuk developers in creating ESXi ransomware may have led to a change in business model, from encryption to data theft and extortion. Indeed, the design and coding of the decryption tool are poorly developed, meaning if companies decide to pay the ransom, the decoding process for encrypted files can be really slow and there is no guarantee that all files will be recoverable. Coverage and Protection Advice McAfee’s EPP solution covers Babuk ransomware with an array of prevention and detection techniques. McAfee ENS ATP provides behavioral content focusing on proactively detecting the threat while also delivering known IoCs for both online and offline detections. For DAT based detections, the family will be reported as Ransom-Babuk!. ENS ATP adds 2 additional layers of protection thanks to JTI rules that provide attack surface reduction

for generic ransomware behaviors and RealProtect (static and dynamic) with ML models targeting ransomware threats. Updates on indicators are pushed through GTI, and customers of Insights will find a threat-profile on this ransomware family that is updated when new and relevant information becomes available. Initially, in our research the entry vector and the complete tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) used by the criminals behind Babuk remained unclear. However, when its affiliate recruitment advertisement came online, and given the specific underground meeting place where Babuk posts, defenders can expect similar TTPs with Babuk as with other Ransomware-as-a-Service families. In its recruitment posting Babuk specifically asks for individuals with pentest skills, so defenders should be on the lookout for traces and behaviors that correlate to open source penetration testing tools like winPEAS, Bloodhound and SharpHound, or hacking frameworks such as CobaltStrike, Metasploit, Empire or Covenant. Also be on the lookout for abnormal behavior of non-malicious tools that have a dual use, such as those that can be used for things like enumeration and execution, (e.g., ADfind, PSExec, PowerShell, etc.) We advise everyone to read our blogs on evidence indicators for a targeted ransomware attack (Part1, Part2). Looking at other similar Ransomwareas-a-Service families we have seen that certain entry vectors are quite common amongst ransomware criminals: E-mail Spearphishing (T1566.001). Often used to directly engage and/or gain an initial foothold, the initial phishing email can also be linked to a different malware strain, which acts as a loader and entry point for the ransomware gangs to continue completely compromising a victim’s network. INTERVIEW

DELL TECHNOLOGIES PLAN TO ACCELERATE THEIR PARTNER GROWTH WITH BEST IN CLASS EMERGING TECHNOLOGY With the industries growing day by day and the customers becoming more aware and intelligent, it is very important to plan a well-defined strategy and engagement model that can help drive enhanced customer experience and outcomes. As end to end digital industrial solutions become more complicated, companies need to leverage the partner ecosystem across the value chain. Sharing a holistic partner enablement strategy can allow the partners to shorten sales cycles, boost lead conversion rates, and build relationships. In a recent interview conducted by Sanjay Mohapatra, Editor, SME Channels with Rola Dagher, Global Channel Chief, Dell Technologies and Anil Sethi, VP and GM Channels India, Dell Technologies, they discussed about the strategies to raise the bar with automated tools and processes along with a game plan to leverage their leading capabilities with VMWare to capitalize on the new large addressable market base they have on the emerging technology space. With the channel continuing to be the key pillar of India’s success, the General Manager of Dell Technologies talked about their 3-4% year on year growth in the channel revenue. “I am searching for opportunities and measures how to continue to accelerate our partner growth with best in class emerging technology because we are focused on delivering that end to end solution because we know it is not about a project or just an opportunity. It is all about the journey in that digital transformation journey that we want our customer to be on from a technology perspective,” said Rola Dagher, Global Channel Chief, Dell Technologies. Anil Sethi – V.P and G.M Channels India, Dell Technologies, added, “We made a list out of the whole Indian system and selected some set of the partners, and there out of our mettle partners was a criteria setup for which they had to qualify. And once that was done they had to go through some training. I am glad to tell you, that today we have many of our partners who are completely authorized to support the entire portfolio.”

24 SME CHANNELS AUGUST 2021

How are the partners getting ready from a post-sale service point of view whenever there is any service call? We started this exercise about a year back when we got our partners to take their skills and capabilities and the investments that we make in our services. Hence, we made out a list out of the whole Indian system and today we have selected some set of partners and there out of our mettle partners there was a criteria setup for which they had to qualify. And once that was done they had to go through some training and everything. Today we have many of our partners who are completely authorized to support the entire portfolio which comprises of the client, DCC, servers and the storage. They can do deployment on their own. They can do a co-deployment or they can even get the entire thing done by Dell and get their emergence. So there are three different options available and this is as we speak is implemented operationally and in fact now being run on a programmatic way. Therefore, this is really accelerated and has been launched a couple of quarters back and is running in full swing now. Can you throw some light on the statement which reflects on the fact that Dell Apex Solutions are 50% cheaper than AWS and Azure? My post talked about AWS, not Azure. It goes on to say that when we had investigated and done some stats and research with the customers with the mission critical to the applications and workloads that they run and that they had been running on the public clouds. When they ran it onto the Apex, we did some kind of a cost analysis with them. And when that was seen and they were AWS users, so there we found that they were putting up the mission critical one, and the other normal workloads when they were doing it when they were putting the entire thing up there, and the kind of consumption they could have it done at the peak times and onto the non-peak times

when due to the role analysis, that is where it was found that you know this could be 50% cheaper.

INTERVIEW

TANUJ MITTAL, DIRECTOR SALES, CUSTOMER PROCESS EXPERIENCE INDIA, DASSAULT SYSTEMES

“IF YOU DISCOUNT THE TWO MONTHS OF WAVE TWO, I THINK WE HAVE A LOT OF CATCHING UP WITHIN THE NEXT SIX MONTHS.”

WE WILL GROW BEYOND WHAT WE HAVE DONE IN 2019 Pandemic has changed growth projection for many organizations including the OEMs. Dassault Systèmes is no exception. SME Channels spoke to Tanuj Mittal, Director Sales, Customer Process Experience – India, Dassault Systèmes to understand his perspective in this situation. An Excerpt. What is your understand of market sentiment? Last year, when this all started, we were unprepared. And this came as a surprise and there were a lot of learning which happened in the last 3- 4 quarters, Our ability as an ecosystem and as an organization was at a testing point. But over the years, we along with our customers and partners, learned how to handle these kinds of situations which were a surprise. So, the first three months of this year have been very good for us that is when this second wave hit us, and we have a little disruption. But business is not stopping. There is a little gap in demand from the end consumer and everybody’s utilizing this time to prepare themselves to cater to that demand as and when comes up. So, overall, it is positive. I think the worst is behind us and I personally think and is positive that the subsequent waves will not be that nega-

tive for all of us. So, business wise we are on a good track. From market point of view, I think automotive industry is not doing great. So, which are the verticals driving your revenue these days -particularly for this month 2021? As an organization, we work primarily in three sectors – Manufacturing, Life Sciences & Healthcare and Infrastructure & Cities. So, automotive falls under manufacturing itself, but then in terms of business, you see, the focus of each of the organization is shifting, this is what we see currently. For example, earlier the stress was too much on R&D and development but now the focus has gone to digitalization. So, how to keep producing with a lesser manpower and optimize the sources and how to keep a track online and digitally for all the manufacturing activities is the focus. Similarly,

for life science and healthcare industry there is a lot of push both from government and otherwise in terms of fundamental research related to pandemic and how do we mass produce the lifesaving drugs and equipment required for the citizens. You can see in the stock market, all the companies related to this segment have kind of doubled and even more than that in their stock price. For the infrastructure and cities, thanks to a lot of initiatives by government, although there was some interim disruption in the projects, but then the overall projects remain intact, and government is still very positive and infusing money and intent in terms of growing the sector. We have solutions like 3DEXPERIENCE twin, Digital twin, etc., which helps you not to be present on site physically. You can still manage remotely. So, for us, the sectors are growing. For any optimistic projection you have in December, and where do you want to invest? How do you want to see this market? If you discount the two months of wave two, I think we have a lot of catching up within the next six months, but we are on force to grow as compared to what we did in 2019 and 2020. How are you coping with the WFH environment? I think technology plays a very major role in business continuity. From Dessault Systemes perspective, our cloud solutions are something which is helping customers to stay in business during these times. So, our offerings in terms of software and solution are available on cloud and those who prefer to work from home with a limited IT infrastructure can still leverage all these technologies to do their business. We and our partners – together – are trying to support our customer to stay relevant and progress. With challenges comes opportunities, what is your focus on skilling or reskilling? Skilling is an inherent objective, what we have for our partner ecosystem. This is a continuous exercise irrespective of pandemic situation or otherwise. There is a very structured and methodical way where we help skill our partners for the technologies which we offer to our customers. During the pandemic and lockdown, learning was the first thing which everybody embarked upon, because you were not able to meet people in business.

FORTINET UNVEILS THE INDUSTRY’S FIRST

HIGH PERFORMANCE NEXT-GENERATION FIREWALL WITH INTEGRATED ZERO TRUST NETWORK ACCESS AND RANSOMWARE PROTECTION

F

ortinet unveiled the FortiGate 3500F Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) to protect organizations with hybrid data centers against the ever-growing threat landscape and ransomware attacks. FortiGate 3500F offers some of the industry’s highest performance numbers, including TLS1.3, with automated threat protection post decryption. Additionally, FortiGate 3500F is built with zero trust network access (ZTNA) capabilities, further delivering consistent security and seamless user experience to any user at any location with its security-driven networking approach. Evolving Threat Landscape Poses Security Risks Across Hybrid Data Centers With the shift to work from anywhere, organizations are adopting hybrid data centers to increase operational agility by deploying some resources across multiple clouds while keeping other business critical applications and data in on-premises data centers for compliance and control. As the data center infrastructure becomes more distributed, however, the attack surface expands and more blind spots emerge, reducing visibility and increasing the potential for breaches and attacks.

26 SME CHANNELS AUGUST 2021

It’s critical for organizations to inspect encrypted flows to detect all type of attacks, especially malware that hides in secure channels, to prevent ransomware and the disruption of command and control attacks from stealing customer and corporate data. Organizations also need a strategy to manage excessive implicit trust and provide inspection into the growing volume of encrypted traffic which is increasingly used by cyber adversaries to mask malicious traffic. Otherwise, organizations struggle to securely grow and accelerate digital transformation as their traditional security strategy and solutions can’t keep up with escalating business demands. Securing Users, Data and Applications Everywhere To address these challenges, FortiGate 3500F NGFW helps organizations ensure business continuity and advanced security for hybrid data centers. With the industry’s highest Security Compute Rating (SCR) of 6x IPsec, FortiGate 3500F NGFW secures the data center edge, core and interconnect by providing ultra-fast secure data center to data center paths to build disaster recovery sites.

It also enables organizations to secure data center to cloud paths for cloud on-ramps with full compliance and controls. Other key highlights of the FortiGate 3500F include: FortiGuard Security Services and Fortinet ASIC SPUs enable hyperscale protection for ransomware and advanced threats: FortiGate 3500F is powered by Fortinet’s purpose-built ASIC Security Processing Units (SPUs), like the NP7 and CP9. FortiGate 3500F offers the industry’s highest security compute rating of 6x for performance compared to competitors – including support of TLS1.3 – to detect attacks, like ZEUS, Trickbot, Dridex, and protect organizations from network, application and file-based attacks and many other sophisticated threats. FortiGate 3500F also natively integrates with FortiGuard Security Services. This further helps organizations protect themselves against network anti-virus, mail security, anti-DDoS, and similar functions, like IPS and anti-malware solutions.

DISRUPT ATTACKS WITH NEW ACTIVE DIRECTORY SECURITY READINESS CHECKS RENAUD DERAISON, CO-FOUNDER AND CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER, TENABLE

I

n the wake of a growing number of both ransomware and sophisticated attacks, Tenable®, Inc., the Cyber Exposure company, has developed 10 foundational configuration checks for its solutions, including Tenable.io, Tenable.sc and both Nessus Professional and Nessus Essentials, that assess Microsoft Active Directory security readiness and align remediation efforts based on the threat landscape. These checks leverage Tenable’s expertise in securing Active Directory environments through Tenable.ad and are available immediately for existing customers at no extra charge. Bad actors have set their sights on the one system that connects everything on the corporate network– from cloud, web apps, traditional IT and operational technology (OT): Active Directory. According to Frost & Sullivan, 90 percent of the Fortune 1000 use Active Directory as their

primary method for authentication and authorisation. Active Directory is almost always the first target for bad actors once they gain a foothold in the enterprise. The Solarwinds hack and a string of high-profile ransomware attacks that crippled critical infrastructure have highlighted the critical role that Active Directory plays in enterprise security and the problems which can occur if not expertly configured, audited and monitored for high-risk activities. In response to this growing crisis, Tenable has launched 10 foundational checks within its solutions to help customers detect commonly exploited weaknesses in Active Directory, protecting credentials and preventing privilege escalation. Organisations can immediately use the checks to assess their exposure to a range of risks, including Kerberoasting attacks, poorly configured or managed passwords and vulnerable encryption proto-

cols. From there, security teams can take remedial action to close these potential attack paths before they are used against them. “We’re seeing the weaponisation of Active Directory by bad actors virtually every time a new ransomware attack or hack makes the headlines. Securing Active Directory is one of the most critical steps virtually any organisation should take to build stronger cyber defences and a solid foundation for their digital business,” said Renaud Deraison, co-founder and chief technology officer, Tenable. “We’re helping to address this growing crisis with new Active Directory checks that make it easier than ever for customers to understand what steps they must take immediately to get their Active Directory security in order and disrupt bad actors’ go-to attack paths.”
