MY EXPERIENCE EDITORIAL

THE YEAR WENT BY (2021) IS NOT EASY TO FORGET ! SANJAY MOHAPATRA

sanjay@smechannels.com

Dear Friends The year 2021 has been a devastating year that everyone would like to forget but certainly the IT industry would love to remember this year. At a time when the pandemic has taken away so many lives and crippled many businesses, it has some positive sides also for the business. The first good thing is that it amplified IT business and changed the outlook of the business towards IT. First time IT removed the label of being assistance to the business and added the label of being enabler of business. Organizations realised the real importance of technology. Starting from healthcare to aviation, agriculture to manufacturing, every segment adopted IT aggressively. Every CEO started thinking about how to manage business continuity. So starting from managing remote workers to accessing data from any place and any device, offering security to every device in every environment, became the mantra for every IT leader. So, during last 4 quarters, the CFOs had to open their doors for innovation and power of spending on acquiring new technologies so that their work does not stop for any kind of pandemic. Whether the work force is coming to office or working from home does not matter, the operations of the organizations do not stop. And it so happened that despite people not attending the office, they were able to prove their productivity. This resulted in the mindset change of the management towards many things that workers can work from their homes and remote locations. Secondly, technology is not an assistant but an enabler. Cloud computing is the future of computing, cyber security as a layer should start from word go of any IT project. Mobility from computing point of view is the real computing for the mass IT workers. Software industry also saw good consumption in the domestic market. Investment from the customers in monitoring software, zero trust access, storage and DR also gained momentum. Automation became a better mode of working for the organizations. So overall the year was a mix year as both sides of extremity were visible but it is always said – There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. So keep working and keep bringing value to your portfolio.

Lam Research Unveils Syndion GP to Help Chipmakers Meet Demand for Advanced Power Devices

Over One-third of Cybersecurity Technologies used by Indian Companies are Outdated

Lam Research Corp. announced Syndion® GP: a new product that provides deep silicon etch capabilities to chipmakers developing next generation power devices and power management integrated circuits used in the automotive, electric power delivery and energy industries. As technologies in these sectors become more advanced, the need for higher power, improved performance and greater density at the chip level increases, requiring greater cross-wafer uniformity for higher aspectratio structures. These enhancements can be achieved by moving to an advanced device structure without sacrificing form factor. To do that, device manufacturers need a very precise and uniform deep silicon etch process. Syndion GP is designed to support this precision manufacturing process and can be configured to manufacture devices at 200 mm and 300 mm wafer sizes, providing a simplified transition path to increased capacity. Currently, many power devices are manufactured on 200 mm diameter silicon wafers; but to support increased demand, production is migrating to 300 mm wafers. The Syndion GP solution builds on Lam’s industry-leading deep silicon etch capabilities and extends its suite of specialty technology offerings.

It is more critical than ever for companies in India to refresh the technologies and solutions in their cybersecurity infrastructure, according to findings of the latest study by Cisco released today. Titled “Security Outcomes Study Volume 2”, the study highlighted that 37 percent of cybersecurity technologies used by companies in India are considered outdated by security and privacy professionals working at these organizations. The study is based on a global survey of more than 5,100 security and privacy professionals across 27 markets. This includes more than 2,000 professionals from 13 markets in Asia-Pacific. The study aims to determine the most impactful measures teams can take to defend their organizations against the evolving threat landscape. Respondents, including professionals from companies in India, shared their approaches to updating and integrating their security architecture, detecting and responding to threats, and staying resilient when disaster strikes. Respondents from India also consider their cybersecurity infrastructure unreliable and complex, with 33 percent and 40 percent respectively highlighting this in the survey.

NASSCOM’s Statement: Joint Parliamentary Committee Report on Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 NASSCOM and DSCI welcome the advancement of deliberations on a holistic Data Protection Framework for India with the release of a report on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 by the joint parliamentary committee (JPC). We appreciate the effort by the JPC to also release a reworked version of the 2019 Bill, which the JPC has now called the “Data Protection Act of 2021” (2021 Bill). Commenting on the revised Bill proposed by the JPC, Debjani Ghosh, President, NASSCOM stated, “A robust data protection law is critical to safeguard the privacy of Indian citizens while driving India’s success in the digital economy. While the JPC has retained much of what was positive with the 2019 Bill, and accepted many more recommendations from the industry, certain areas will require further deliberation – particularly the expansion of the scope to cover non-personal data. NASSCOM will continue to work with the Government towards passing a law that brings regulatory certainty and delivers on our collective duty to protect India’s personal data”.

DigiCert Advances Passwordless Authentication with Support for Windows Hello for Business DigiCert, Inc unveiled a key advancement in passwordless authentication with industry-first automated workflows and certificate issuance for Windows Hello for Business (WHfB). The DigiCert® PKI platform now supports certificate-based authentication at scale for WHfB, enabling passwordless authentication on hybrid Azure AD-joined devices for organizations within the same platform where they manage certificates for their other private certificate use cases. WHfB is a passwordless authentication solution from Microsoft to verify sign-in/login, using strong multi-factor authentication on PCs and mobile devices, and biometric or PIN identity credentials. Passwordless authentication is a growing trend as companies seek to improve security at the point of access, while simplifying the user sign-in experience. This need is becoming more pronounced as companies adopt zero-trust network access security models, which require authentication for each access point.

Gartner Predicts Chip Shortages Will Drive 50% of the Top 10 Automotive OEMs to Design Their Own Chips by 2025 By 2025, chip shortages and trends such as electrification and autonomy will drive 50% of the top 10 automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to design their own chips, according to Gartner, Inc. As a result, it will give them control over their product roadmap and supply chains. “Automotive semiconductor supply chains are complex,” said Gaurav Gupta, research vice president at Gartner. “In most cases, chip makers are traditionally Tier 3 or Tier 4 suppliers to automakers, which means it usually takes a while until they adapt to the changes affecting automotive market demand. This lack of visibility in the supply chain has increased automotive OEMs desire to have greater control over their semiconductor supply.”

CYBER SECURITY SEEN AS A BUSINESS ENABLER IN THE NEW NORMAL As we are all conscious about the fact that adoption of digital transformation has been accelerated by the pandemic. The Companies realized the adoption of technology and right away took the step. The coronavirus pandemic has created new challenges for businesses as they adapt to an operating model in which working from home has become the ‘new normal’. Companies are accelerating their digital transformation, and cyber security is now a prime concern. The reputational, operational, legal and compliance implications could be huge if cyber security risks are neglected.

T

he world has now been fighting this unprecedented virus for two years now. In addition to its obvious effects on individuals’ health and entire countries’ economies, the disease’s spread triggered sudden and radical changes in the daily life of millions of people. Work and study moved to the home, and videoconferencing replaced social and business meetings. The massive shift online has only exacerbated cybersecurity concerns. To this, Vishak Raman, Director, Security Business, Cisco India & SAARC says, “The past two years have seen the long-term trends of increased remote working and the use of cloud-delivered services accelerated due to the pandemic. Therefore, as our use of technology evolves, so do the capabilities of threat actors and the landscape of threats we face. As per NIC-CERT data, a whopping 1.16 million cases of cyberattacks were reported in 2020 in India, which is a 300% spike over 2019. The repercussions of these attacks are far-reaching. Corporations not only have to face serious repu-

tational risk, but these attacks also have damaging cost implications. Evolving cyberattack landscape demands top-notch cybersecurity practices such as Zero Trust Architecture, Passwordless Authentication, Multi-factor Authentication, and robust Cloud Security. Security transparency and literacy are other components that need to be intensified because employees must be aware of emerging attack patterns and ways to defend their businesscritical data. Most importantly, an integrated approach for securing the digital environment is a must. Today’s cyber defenders must have visibility across applications, networks, and devices, along with the ability to leverage machine speed and predictive intelligence to deliver scalable, adaptable protection.” The pandemic has created an enormous challenge for businesses worldwide: to continue operating despite massive shutdowns of offices and other facilities. digital devices their now-remote employees used to stay connected to each other and to the company’s data – becomes even more vital. Overnight, the demands placed on the digital infrastructure have skyrocketed. To this, Akshat Jain, CTO and Co-founder, Cyware commented, “The digital transformation of organizations across various industries is leading to a massive uptick in the need for adequate cyber defenses to protect today’s on-premise, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures. The cybersecurity industry is in a perpetual battle with malicious actors to protect organizations from their ever-changing tactics and techniques. In the current threat landscape, SMEs cannot afford to have a lax approach to their cybersecurity as their business operations and partnerships with other larger organizations can come into jeopardy due to threats of ransomware extortion, supplychain hacks, and social engineering attacks. Since remote access and virtual collaboration tools are being used across the board, every organization is equally at risk. SMEs need to develop a robust threat response and management workflow using threat intelligence and security automation, and orchestration (SOAR) solutions to counter threats across their networks. Moreover, SMEs must improve their security posture in real-time by adopting threat intel sharing to stay abreast with the evolving behavior of cyber adversaries”. Cybersecurity efforts need to be upgraded to prevent a second crisis from emerging: on the digital devices and networks that have become infinitely more vital to companies in recent times. Such technology also becomes a much bigger and more lucrative target for cybercriminals. In other words, “business continuity” has become a mandate. To this Akshat Jain, CTO and Co-founder, Cyware continues,” In this post-COVID world, the role of channel partners in accelerating the adoption and deployment of critical security technologies across different industries has only increased. Channel partners can aid the marketing, sales, and outreach efforts across key geographies to quickly onboard enterprises, improve customer satisfaction, and overcome the limitations of virtual interactions. Looking at the big picture, the advent of innovative solutions for Security Orchestration and Automated Response (SOAR), Threat Intelligence Platform (TIP), and Cyber Fusion is rapidly transforming the cybersecurity technology landscape. These new technologies are helping shape the next-generation cybersecurity infrastructure that is proactive, automated, and more streamlined as compared to a conventional Security Operations Center (SOC). Organizations having a resilient cybersecurity posture are inevitably going

to benefit in the long term due to decreased risks of downtime, data security incidents, reputational damage, and other potential losses. As the impact of cybersecurity on the bottom line of organizations grows, the investment into cybersecurity tools, teams, and processes is also bound to grow further.” Present IT Landscape One significant shift is the widespread adoption of technology that enables companies to leverage on-demand expertise for increased efficiency, productivity and adaptability. The increasing rate at which companies are looking to digitize has highlighted the need for organizations to renew their internal focus on cybersecurity awareness. On this Rahul Bagola –National Head, Network & Security Rahi says, “With a robust push from the government towards digitization, Indian enterprises too have digitized their processes holding a strong market position in the coming years. Though technology has helped enterprises to scale their business, it has also increased the fear of intellectual property theft, leaking of critical data from cybercriminals and disgruntled employees. All these years, security was treated as a technology issue, but enterprises have now realized that cyber security has heavy business implications and hence must be looked like a key part of business strategy, probably involving the CEO directly. This has made enterprises take a position in data classification and ways to secure it, by getting all stakeholders involved during a strategy that matches way beyond watching only as a technology solution” On this Sanjay Manohar, MD, McAfee Enterprise India , comments,” The global crisis precipitated by COVID 19 has brought about an unprecedented change in the cybersecurity landscape. Businesses are being compelled to adapt and reinvent themselves to survive the pandemic, and as a result, the cybersecurity landscape has and is evolving rapidly. Cloud adoption skyrocketed in 2020, and while it has cooled off a bit in 2021, this was the shock needed to propel India towards being a cloud and online economy. All this has opened up a massive frontier of opportunity for criminals in Cloud and that’s where we are focusing our attention on. McAfee Enterprise and FireEye’s recent research revealed that 81% of global organisations experienced increased cyber threats, and closer home, 77% of Indian businesses reported to have faced downtimes due to cyber incidents. Further, while the top three most threatening cyber risks that were detected are malware attacks (47%), data

breaches (43%), ransomware and cloud jacking (33% each), over 30% of the IT professionals also experienced vulnerabilities in their ‘Internet of Things’ devices”. Best practices for businesses to improve their data protection The world is moving towards Cloud, except for the predictable future on-prem and cloud workloads are expected to co-exist. It’s critically necessary to possess a comprehensive knowledge protection strategy that seamlessly spans on-prem, network and Cloud elements of the workloads. According to Sanjay Manohar, MD, McAfee Enterprise India, the pointers are: a) Evangelizing data security: Departments across an organisation must come together and treat data security as a matter that’s integral to business performance and communicate its importance b) Understand how sensitive data is being accessed and shared: Sensitive data can be held securely in the cloud, but you have to monitor who accesses it and where it goes. Assess the permissions on files and folders in your cloud environment, along with access context like user roles, user location, and device type c) Implement Data Loss Policies: Devise a pervasive set of Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies that protect data everywhere it’s stored, including the cloud and corporate endpoints, networks, or unmanaged devices. Ideally, set data classifications once to protect data across endpoints, web, and cloud d) Establishing a model for your information security: Based on the requirements of your organization, you could establish a framework for data security. Organizations should ponder on this: o Do they know the value of their data? o Do they know who has access to their data? o Do they know where their data is located? o Do they know who is protecting their data? o Do they know how well their data is protected? Based on the responses to these questions, organizations must take appropriate steps to safeguard their data. Similarly Rahul Bagola – National Head, Network & Security Rahi mentions: a) In the absence of comprehensive legislation around data protection, Indian companies can gain a competitive advantage by freely complying with global laws similar to GDPR which cover clients’ particular information and give them control over how their data is collected, stored, and

COVER STORY

participated. B) Organizations must also invest in the right structure to keep their data secure from unauthorised third-party access. This can be done by controlling access to sensitive data within the organisation, conducting security mindfulness training among workers as well as hiring data security specialists as part of the pool. C) Other data security measures to be put in place include de-identifying and cracking particular data, prompt patch operation, perpetration of multi-factor authentication and secure configurations to minimise any vulnerabilities On the same statement Girish Gargeshwari, Director - Channels & Alliances (Asia), CrowdStrike pointers are: n Knowing what you are protecting. Organizations run the risk of falling prey to significant targeted attacks, ransomware and even misuse of stolen credentials. Having enterprise-wide visibility and security capabilities is critical to data protection. n Knowing your adversaries. Measuring the potential impact of a breach requires contextualized data. With the help of big data organizations can develop insights into the scope, mitigation solutions and, with threat intelligence, they can understand any potential adversary intent. n Developing a quicker response. Adversaries move very quickly and it’s critical to detect new threat patterns in real time to identify potential indicators of an attack (IOA). By integrating security into a cloud-native platform it is possible to protect data as quickly as the adversary attempts to breach it. n Transition from credentials to identity. Protecting credentials from being compromised is important. However, organizations must go further to secure endpoints by embracing a Zero Trust approach to protect identity. This means better protection against unintentional access to data by unauthorized insiders, as well as additional opportunities to detect and prevent threat actors from escalating privileges and moving laterally during a compromise. n Privacy-by-design. Regulatory norms across the globe require that organizations think about privacy from the beginning and not just as an afterthought. It is extremely critical to ensure that core data protection principles such as proportionality, storage limitation and data minimization are incorporated Sandeep shekhar Chairman & Global CEO, C Ahead Digital take on this is :

Setting Up Firewalls – Firewall is known as the first line of defence. Using a firewall to encrypt the information on your server allows you to safeguard your Internet connection and make sure your data is hidden and secure. Make Backup Copies of Important Data – It is very important to backup all sources of critical data including word processing documents, electronic spreadsheets, databases, financial files, human resources files, and accounts receivable/ payable files periodically. Restricted Access – Implementing two-factor authentication (2FA) privacy solutions so that the resources can safely access sensitive data without compromising your network. Also implementing Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools that can monitor and block unauthorized data flows instantly will help an organization in saving a huge data loss. Data Security Knowledge – Giving the essential knowledge of Data Security and Prevention to all the resources in a company is an important task. It is really important to educate the team about how to spot online threats and how to protect the data and hold them accountable to your Internet security policies and procedures at all times. Importance of channel partners for cyber security specifically in the post Covid scenario Channel partners are crucial for cybersecurity. There are millions of businesses around the world—from small startups to mid-market and huge enterprises. There is no viable way for one company to build and maintain a direct relationship with everyone. Businesses depend on a variety of tools and services to function, but they want to focus on innovating and growing the business. Companies rely on the trusted relationship with the channel partner to help address those needs. The channel partner ecosystem extends the reach for vendors while enabling the channel partner to deliver the products and services that customers need. On this, Sandeep shekhar Chairman & Global CEO, C Ahead Digital says, “Channel partners has a significant role to play in cybersecurity landscape. Post Covid when companies are switching to hybrid model of working wherein “Remote Working culture” is new work trend as most of the employees are working from home. These channel partners are well verse with the required understanding and skills to understand and analyse the environment of an organization and to implement

the required security practices so that the respective organization is well secured from all possible security breaches even if the client does not have the required resources to maintain their security landscape”. And Girish Gargeshwari, Director - Channels & Alliances (Asia), CrowdStrike says, “CrowdStrike’s strategy in India is focused on developing deeper penetration and expertise across the main vertical industries such as government, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, insurance, financial services, energy, IT services to name a few. Throughout the pandemic we’ve seen an increasing demand for cybersecurity solutions as organisations grapple with securitizing a remote workforce. In order to scale, CrowdStrike has managed to create some key partnerships in India through the CrowdStrike Elevate Partner Program, providing training, support and services that partners need to achieve outstanding results in their particular markets and areas of specialization”. Conclusion As the cyber security market grows, it evolves as companies look to the future and adopt new technologies to keep up with the competition. New security gaps have been discovered and companies are constantly in need of the latest security solutions to stay ahead of the curve and protect themselves. The cyber security market continues to adapt and evolve with increasing reliance on cloud and off-prem systems, strict data protection standards, and increasing digitalization. Organizations are adopting new technologies to move their businesses from offline to online using a variety of digital transformation tools. Advances in IT such as cloud migration, an increase in remote and hybrid workers, and advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies are driving the growth of the cyber security market.

OVER ONE-THIRD OF CYBERSECURITY TECHNOLOGIES USED BY INDIAN COMPANIES ARE OUTDATED

I

t is more critical than ever for companies in India to refresh the technologies and solutions in their cybersecurity infrastructure, according to findings of the latest study by Cisco released today. Titled “Security Outcomes Study Volume 2”, the study highlighted that 37 percent of cybersecurity technologies used by companies in India are considered outdated by security and privacy professionals working at these organizations. The study is based on a global survey of more

than 5,100 security and privacy professionals across 27 markets.

The good news is that companies in India are addressing this by investing in modern cybersecurity technologies to improve their security posture. Nearly nine in 10 (89 percent) respondents in India said their company is investing in a ‘Zero Trust’ strategy, with 44 percent saying their organization is making steady progress with adopting it and 45 percent saying they are at a mature state of implementing it. In addition, 88 percent of respondents said their company is investing in Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) architecture, with 44 percent making good progress with adoption and a similar number saying their implementation is at mature levels. These two approaches are crucial to building a strong security posture for companies in the modern cloud-first and application-centric world. Organizations are facing multiple challenges while operating in this environment, including complexity in connecting users to applications and data across various cloud platforms, inconsistent security policies across disparate locations and networks, difficulty in verifying the identity of users and devices, lack of end-to-end visibility of their security infrastructure, etc.

TECHNOLOGICAL TRENDS 2022

P V VAIDYANATHAN, Co-Founder and CEO, Process IT Global

Several organisations actually emerged stronger in 2021 in terms of business continuity, after having experienced the deep impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The key reason for this dramatic shift can be easily attributed to adoption of digital transformation and technological innovations. Many technological trends in 2022 focus on delivering efficiency and growth with rapid digitisation and automation. Adopting them and ensuring the trends are integrated in to the business operations will propel organisations to achieve their business goals in the coming year. Greater focus on Hyper-automation Yes, we are already familiar with how automation in businesses is increasing efficiency in operations with far fewer errors across the entire supply chain. It ensures effective use of data and provides consistency in products and services. Hyper-automation is the next step, which involves Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Process Mining, Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), Intelligence Business Process Management and other advanced tools. Its adoption leads to dramatic increase in productivity, delivery of better business outcomes, wherein the workforce can be given higher order roles and be trained in them. Business agility increases to a great extent and there will be an acceleration in the complex tasks handled by the trained manpower. Digital workers will take over mundane, repetitive day-to-day work as end-to-end work-flows get automated. Some industries that will leverage hyper-automation include, Banking and Financial Services, Government and Public Sector, Manufacturing, Life-sciences, among others. AI and ML technologies gain further importance In the year 2021, data scientists spent a significant amount of their time in tedious tasks of cleaning, integrating, processing and preparing data and training models. However, the time of these highlyskilled professionals are precious and should not be wasted on such operational issues. Year 2022 will see more of AI and ML tasks becoming automated enabling the data scientists to focus on configuring and perfecting algorithms. Furthermore, Proof of Concept phase of AI of 2021 will be replaced by AI-first approach across

organisations. AI-ML models will be leveraged for improving their business processes. AI use will become more strategic across all business units, as the technology becomes an integral part of the system providing real-time insights. Developers, Employees, Customer and Partners across companies of all sizes will have access to AI-ML models. Extensive adoption of AI will be seen in Retail, Manufacturing, Healthcare, BFSI and other industrial verticals. Managing Hybrid and Multi-cloud architecture crucial There will be significant growth in the multi-cloud management market, driven by elimination of vendor lock-ins reducing the dependency on a single vendor. Customers can negotiate with other vendors for better pricing and SLAs, besides agility, elasticity and scalability. A growing demand for higher agility, automation and increase in the adoption of containerisation and microservices for cloud-native applications are also promoting the multi-cloud strategy for organisations. In addition to adopting multi-cloud, businesses will focus on Hybrid-cloud architecture, which includes multiple cloud services from public as well as private cloud providers. This system offers the cost-optimisation and scalability of public cloud in addition to the control, security and compliance of the private cloud. With Cloud-first strategy going mainstream, it becomes all the more important to effectively manage Hybrid and Multi-Cloud environments in 2022. Cybersecurity Mesh will gain further traction With Remote working culture and BYOD adoption, the earlier traditional security perimeter is invalid today, with every individual user becoming the new perimeter. Such an environment and network demand a Cybersecurity Mesh Architecture (CSMA). This supports organisations in the delivery of an integrated security structure and posture to ensure all IT and networking assets are secure irrespective of their location.

INTERVIEW

MANISH ALSHI, HEAD OF CHANNELS AND GROWTH TECHNOLOGIES (INDIA & SAARC), CHECK POINT

WE HAVE SEEN THAT SECURITY AS A SERVICE IS A VERY ATTRACTIVE PROPOSITION TO CUSTOMERS BY SANJAY MOHAPATRA

sanjay@smechannels.com

How is the channel business? The channels have been the backbone of our go-to-market strategy. There was a brief period wherein COVID did hit all of us, even as we were trying to kind of mitigate the threats and also really trying to figure out the best way possible. But over a period of time, all of us have matured and have found a way of working, including our customers, partners, and ourselves to keep the interactions going. Business doesn’t stop, so what serves the business also doesn’t stop. Over the last 4-5 months the flow has been steadily increasing and we have seen customers starting to reinvest into some of these critical aspects of threat prevention, and building up the security walls within the organization. Technology has seen a sea change—new technologies coming to counter attacks and

ransomware looming large. What do you have to offer and how are channels aligned? I will break it down into two or three different elements. Considering the geopolitical situation that India cyber security threats are significant across industry verticals. With the proliferation of mobile devices across end-users, the surface area is expanding. There has been a consistent rise in the number of cyberattacks, and most are ransomware and Check Point has always stayed ahead of the curve with futuristic solutions. From the channel perspective we revamped the channel program in 2020 focussing upon three key tenets. First was to ensure deeper collaboration with partners. Second, ensure higher profitability and we took a lot of initiatives. And the last important element was customer stickiness where we ensured that customers had better implementation experience with us. As we got into 2021, we spruced it up and doubled down our investments

to ensure partners complete necessary certifications and stepped-up demand creation activities. We have onboarded more than 125 new partners this fiscal and conducted a partner trust survey

INTERVIEW

“CONSIDERING THE GEOPOLITICAL SITUATION THAT INDIA CYBER SECURITY THREATS ARE SIGNIFICANT ACROSS INDUSTRY VERTICALS.”

which has really helped to fine tune the strategy. Can you walk us through with the state of the market and a

glimpse into your competitive positioning with regards to partner strategy? We are seeing a normalized work culture that existed in the pre-pandemic era, and we are seeing increased traction amongst customers. We have intensified our engagement on the back end of the revised program and doubling down on our investments with partners and pumping in a lot of money to assist in demand creation. We have an extremely strong technical base of resources and we are diverting a lot of towards partner certifications aiming to train at least 100 partner technical professionals across the country. The third aspect of our partner program rewards extends to the partner sales rep. For example, we had launched a new customer rebate program wherein for every new customer that the partner brings on the table, we have a backend rebate program to reward efforts.

dent on the cloud, cloud security, SaaS, zero trust and stuff like that. Now, are you seeing similar kind of evolution among partners? We are seeing loads of customers moving towards the Cloud and it’s a continuous journey for customers. Majority of customers are in a hybrid structure with a part of their infrastructure still residing within their own premises. Check Point has also evolved its product portfolio to have a very specific set of cloud security solutions including network security; coverage for cloud deployments; posture management. A lot of applications are being developed for the cloud and our effort is to shift left and work with organizations to embed cloud security solutions into the application itself. Check Point’s CloudGuard comprises a suite of security solutions in the cloud domain. Partners have evolved in several directions around cloud. MSSPs who have jumped into the fray, starting with co-location services and expanding services; value-added resellers have been evolving to offer a mixed bag of solutions. The third stream of the partners are born in the cloud. So in terms of the partner programs, we have tried to embed ourselves into the business strategies of different partners. Each of those partner segments are tweaking their business strategies to ensure that they are not left behind. MSSP are becoming a preferred option amongst customers. What initiatives have you taken to help other partners graduate into the MSSPs? We have seen that security as a service is a very attractive proposition to customers. Customers can also take advantage of a strong technical capabilities of a partner organization to manage threats and prevention strategies, which means partners need to enhance technical skills and capabilities. And that’s where an MSSP model starts evolving. From an adoption perspective, we have seen cloud service providers and telcos get into the MSSP model in the first phase, and now we are seeing some value-added resellers are trying to get into the MSSP domain. Recently, we have signed off with a telecom provider for MSSP services and are in talks with about five to seven other partner organizations. As we get into FY 2022 MSSP is going to be one of the key pillars of our go-to-market strategies.

The market has evolved from a traditional one to more depen-
