Dear Friends Year-end story has always been good for most of the organizations in India but this year end story is not that great. Covid-19 has changed the entire finance condition of the organizations. Many sectors have not yet picked up properly. Sectors like Manufacturing, automotive, tourism, aviation, etc. have not at all picked up for the last one year. Imagine, what a dent happened to the industry. On the other hand, reliance on Make in China products are being shown cold towels by the industry. It means no one is promoting the products openly, so also the government. The mindset of the people against Make-in-China products have been very strong. It means the traders and importers of ICT products are also facing challenges. Government have imposed restriction on many products imported from China and many other countries. This has also impacted the performance of the market. On the other hand, the industry is changing very fast, specially post covid. The pandemic situation has changed the market dynamics so also the requirements. Cloud has changed the enterprises so also the cyber security has. Now the partners need to find out various aspects in the digital transformation so that they can address the cloud and security market. This year end is definitely not very attractive for the partners not for the industry but it has opened up the opportunity for all the thing of the future. In my understanding and experience of dealing with the partners, not many partners are thinking beyond their scope of work and comfort level. The industry is ready for newer solutions at an attractive price but partners are not ready. They are with the same and traditional vendors and partners, which is not right for the growth of the industry. The customer market is ready and opened to ideas and the partners are not quite ready for that. Till date the consulting mode of the partners are not visible. They are trying to play with short terms profitability. However, I would again recommend that partners to become consultants and bring in trust. Be open with ideas and be transparent to their customers. Wish you have a good year.

Sophos Named Common Vulnerability and Exposure Numbering Authority Sophos has been named a Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) Numbering Authority (CNA) in the CVE program, a recognized international standard for identifying and naming cybersecurity vulnerabilities. With this status, Sophos is authorized to assign CVE identification to unique vulnerabilities within the scope of its products. Security researchers can now work directly with Sophos to open CVEs for the company’s products, making the process of reporting issues and assigning CVEs more straightforward. The CVE program is an international, community-based effort that maintains a communitydriven, open data registry of vulnerabilities. The program catalogs CVEs in a publicly available registry that is available to security researchers, vulnerability disclosers and information technology vendors. Using a common identifier makes it easier to share and cross-check data across the industry’s several and separate security databases and tools that track vulnerabilities.

26% increase in COVID19 vaccine-related phishing attacks; reports Barracuda Researchers After capitalising on the global pandemic with coronavirus-related phishing attacks, cybercriminals are now shifting their focus towards leveraging the vaccine to steal money and personal information. In an analysis conducted between October 2020 and January 2021, researchers at Barracuda Networks, a trusted partner and a leading provider of cloudenabled security solutions, found that hackers are increasingly using vaccine-related emails in their targeted spear-phishing attacks. The number of vaccine-related phishing attacks increased by 12% after pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and Moderna announced the availability of vaccines in November 2020 and by the end of January 2021, the average number of attacks was up 26%. Cybercriminals are taking advantage of the heightened fear and uncertainty prevailing around the COVID-19 vaccine to launch attacks using urgency, social engineering, and other common tactics to lure victims. Barracuda researchers identified two predominant types of spear-phishing attacks using vaccine-related themes: brand impersonation and business email compromise.

World over distribution or rather primitive distribution method is ‘stock & sell’, but we have moved to ‘Sell & Buy’. Rather than focusing on stock & other matters related to stock, we are asking our partners to focus & position ourselves in front of the customer to build sales. This is not easy as said but the basic block of this overall drastic change was placed way back in 2015-2016, where we started shifting our sales

team from focusing on distributer order to end customer calls/funnel & closer with partners. As we started to understand that in solution/technology business that we are in & the business that we want to be in, shifting stock from Factory to Distributer won’t solve the problem - that’s not business. Like in many other businesses, where sales happen through partner but the same is achieved by sales to customers & not by moving stock from one to the other, we learned that it’s a need in solution/ technology business that we place our partners to focus on end-customer sales.

experience, exposure and confidence to handle complex cyber mishaps at the customers’ place. What is your product strategy keeping the hybrid work perspective? More than product strategy, our approach is “What can Kaspersky do to resolve the cyber pains of the customers”. Although the work-from-home (WFH) scenario has been universal, the situations and challenges created in the cyber world is different for every customer. The challenges for a financial customer will be different from the ones faced by public sector. Likewise, manufacturing industries have different pain points as compared to SMBs or IT / ITES. Also given the complexity of the Cyber Scenarios today, it would be better to provide a “need-based” approach rather than a product driven one. Our range of offerings extend large and wide starting from the traditional AV to AGAV, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Anti APT solution, Sandbox, email and Network Security. We have a strong solution stack that covers the endpoint, network and other aspects of Industrial cybersecurity, providing a multi-layered protection. We have also an increased demand towards our services portfolio such as Compromise Assessment, Incident Response, Red Team/Blue Team, Table Top Exercise, and the highly appreciated Threat Intelligence services. In fact, we will be launching our MDR portfolio as well. What is your channel spread in India, what kind of growth are you expecting this year? India is a tremendously growing and critical market for the cybersecurity industry at the moment and will continue to be so even in the coming years. The business in South Asia managed a near 100% growth in 2020 as compared to 2019 and we are confident that such excellent result will be also seen for this year. We have also registered a 2.5x growth in our channel engagement last year vis-à-vis 2019. Started in 2003,E-Soft Solution is today the leading IT solutions company, which is focusing on software business with specialization in cloud computing, AI, BI, RPA, etc. Based on out Noida, it started with providing end to end infra solution and focused on software compliance and SAM business. That time, the awareness around IT was very less. A lot of MNCs entered into Indian market and they mandated the compliances, which opened up the opportunity for the partners and E-Soft flourished a lot. Parallel business around backup, storage and DR also increased. E-Soft Solutions started with meager Rs.5 Lack but touched its peak during 2010 with Rs. 25 Crore revenue, which bounced back to Rs.15 Crore now with a healthy bottom-line. Rajnikant Das, Founder & Director, E-Soft Solutions, recalls, “The market was rapidly growing. All the MNCs were spreading thick and fast in India and business was flourishing. And the

Along with MNCs and domestic customers were spending huge budget around IT during that time.” But gradually, awareness became high and IT became consumerised, which resulted in thinning margin of single digit with huge challenges around payment collection and the company lost substantial amount of revenue. He added, “Post dotcom bust, with the evolution of cloud and XaaS, businesses for the Indian partners become different. This was supported by government as they brought out IT policy and created mandate and ways for investment. So, to the advantage of E-Soft, the awareness of software as an asset became quite a high and OEMs focused strongly on the cloud and software service business. Although the revenue of E-Softwent down nearly 50% but Rajnikant is happy that his bottom-line increased to double digit. There is no bad debt and OD from the bank. Today, E-Soft is a leading cloud solution provider with most of the OEMs in their portfolio and Microsoft Azure is the largest contributor for his total revenue. E-Soft also deals in cyber security, IaaS, SaaS and PaaS, etc. Rajnikant as an entrepreneur has a huge market information and hands-on in various technology, which is an advantage for the company. He not only sells solutions but guides customers about the right solutions. He added, “We are looking at expanding on the director of cloud, digital, mobility and cyber security. As per him, cyber security is a huge menace to the organizations today. Organizations are moving rapidly on digital path, they need to keep security as priority and our strategy is to bring in innovative and affordable solutions to the market.”

How is the demand for cybersecurity solutions from data centers and CSPs during 2021? The demand from data centers and CSPs has always been there and keeps on increasing every time for cybersecurity solutions. Along with that, they provide security to their users by becoming MSP themselves. What challenges have you faced during lockdown? And how was the business once the lockdown was relaxed? The challenge was to reach the market and be there on the field. However, after a month of lockdown, our industry became the key discussion point and opened several new markets. Also, in this period we focused on maximum brand visibility and recall, being, seen & heard in the minds of partners and consumers. Our business did not decline after the first 2 months of lockdown rather we have seen a steady growth thereafter. Also, from business perspective in the Year 2020 we have engaged Tie ups and partnerships with several international brands specific to Indian Markets. Where do you see the channel business going in the next 2-3

years in India? The channel business is streamlining continuously. It is time the channel business gets structured. At the moment there is multi-channel strategy, which we feel will go obsolete as we move forward. There will be only 2 tier of channel partners. As the business starts, we will see more distributor to reseller connects than tier 2 distribution. The channel business will definitely grow in a country like India. We are completely focused on our partners and we do 100% business via them. What are the most common cyber threats nowadays? Ransomware that employs encryption to hold a victim’s information, Phishing attacks to be the most familiar due its simplicity, effectiveness and high return on investment, and Insider threats are most common threats nowadays a company faces. The Year 2020, had 1 attack every 14 seconds, right from ransomware, phishware to Data breach. What are the areas of growth for BD Soft in the country and what is your roadmap for the same? We have added products complementing our solutions and we are focused on the same. Our solutions, will save money for the customers (not
