kris ealey aka smithdown slim Kris Ealey was a local musician, actor, promoter and more than anything a friend to many many people in this city. As one of the founder members of the now legendary scouse indie band Tramp Attack, he dedicated most of his life to music - listening, playing and sharing with others. Kris passed away at the tragically early age of 38 while working in Italy. It was during the 2016 Smithdown Festival when the news broke, and a wave of sadness passed through the air. While he wasn’t exactly A-list famous (although fans of Brookside a nd Hollyoaks might disagree) he someone who mattered, who shook things up and made a difference to people’s lives. Lots and lots of people’s lives. This year (and from now on) we have decided to name our main stage The Kris Ealey Stage, in tribute to one of Smithdown’s brightest sons.

dave mccabe and ian skelly when we announced that the main stage would be renamed after local musician
kris ealey, who sadly passed away last may, the zutons frontman dave mccabe did not hesitate to agree to play. as long standing friends and bandmates, ealey and mccabe played together in scouse legends tramp attack and jammed together on many, many a hazy fun night at the infamous bandwagon. mccabe himself is almost single-handedly responsible for some of the biggest hits of the noughties. classics such as ‘valerie’, ‘don’t ever think’ and ‘you will you won’t’ had indie dancefloors around the country going haywire. add in a full band including ian skelly – aka the coral drummer– and you have an incredible collaboration definitely worth catching.
