StreamTrekkers—ICETREKKERS If you’re sick of slipping and sliding on slime-covered rocks all summer long, but don’t feel like dropping a bunch of dough on new boots, then pick up a pair of StreamTrekkers. Wading boots, beat-up hikers, old tennis shoes, whatever—just slip on the diamondbeaded harness and enjoy crampon-like traction on wet rock and moss, all for the price of a modest night he best part? You can use ‘em this coming out. The winter, for hiking ice-covered trails in the offseason, too. $45; icetrekkers.com. — MI K E ENGLA NGLAN ND D
Guide’s Choice—SMITH Few things are more essential to an enjoyable outdoor experience than a good pair of sunglasses. This is even more true during summer in the mountains, so I sprung for a new pair this year and ended up with the Guide’s Choice from Smith. These glasses use Smith’s patented ChromaPop technology, which means you’ll be seeing the world in colors that the human eye doesn’t really pick up, which is cool—but it does make life without the shades a little boring. The coverage around your eye is great, meaning no more headaches once you’re up above treeline or out on the water all day. The downside of full coverage is less venting, so these aren’t a great option for high-output activities like biking; but they’re ideal for fishing, camping, or around town. available at the river s Edge, Bozeman angler, round House, and montana Troutfitters. $230; smithoptics.com. —D AV ID T U CKE R
Hopper—Yeti Most every outdoor adventure has the need for a cooler, but a hardsided cooler can be overkill for some outings. You want a soft-sided icebox that’s easy to carry, will keep your beverages cold, and won’t leak on a 90-degree day. There are several options out there, but only the Yeti Hopper meets all three requirements. You can load this baby up with ice and 24 cans of your favorite barley pop, pack it easily with the various straps and handles, and, as the ice slowly melts, it won’t leak water. Need to pack for a longer trip? No problem. The Hopper is built to the same standards as Yeti’s hard-sided coolers and will retain ice for multiple days. Available at Owenhouse Ace Hardware, Montana Troutfitters, Bob Ward’s, the river s Edge, and Sportsman’s Warehouse. $350; yeticoolers.com. — C H R IS MC C A R TH Y 56
