Michael Orde

Michael Orde Partner t. 01434 632001 e. michael.orde@smithsgore.co.uk Michael heads up the firm’s services in Northumberland. An RICS registered valuer, he is responsible for strategic estate management on behalf of a range of private and institutional landowners. Particular areas of expertise include succession planning, managing heritage property and overseeing delivery of major projects. Michael has been a member of the firm’s executive board since 2000.

He is an RICS registered valuer and is also responsible for managing the estates of several institutional and private clients in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, which include urban and urban fringe properties, commercial premises, farms, land and coastal property.

Ewan has developed his career in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, specialising in rural estate management, along with the management and letting of fishing rights; he is also an RICS registered valuer.

An RICS registered valuer, his particular areas of expertise include compulsory purchase, waygoing claims, diversification and telecoms. Thomas sits on the East Lothian Access Forum as the representative of Scottish Land & Estates.

She studied Rural Enterprise and Land Management at Harper Adams University and is now working towards achieving her APC.

He has extensive experience in rural property in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders with expertise in estate management and the buying and selling of high value properties. Callum joined Smiths Gore in 2008 as a graduate and passed his APC through the firm’s in-house training programme. He now co-ordinates Smiths Gore’s residential lettings in Scotland. He carries out rural estate management for The Crown Estate, the Defence Training Estate and a number of private clients across central Scotland. Callum’s areas of expertise include residential and agricultural lettings, environmental management and agricultural law.
Having joined the firm’s Haddington office in 2010, Alasdair attended the firm’s in-house APC training programme and qualified as a chartered surveyor in 2011. Alasdair helps to manage estates and residential properties for a range of private clients and landowners. His areas of specialisation include landlord and tenant matters and residential management and lettings.

Dave’s career in the building trade has equipped him perfectly for his role in managing the maintenance requirements of properties across the firm’s managed estates in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. David joined Smiths Gore in January 2014 as part of the merger with Sale & Partners’ Wooler office.
Jacqueline joined Smiths Gore under the merger with Sale & Partners’ Wooler office in January 2014. She manages the letting of fishing rights on the Tweed and also the North Tyne, as well as providing administrative support to the office.

He also has extensive experience acting as an expert witness on agricultural issues at public inquiries on wind farm proposals involving common land.
Duncan Winspear t. 01434 636071 e. duncan.winspear@smithsgore.co.uk After completing a degree in agriculture at Newcastle University and working in New Zealand in a large dairy farming business, Duncan joined Smiths Gore in 2006. He is based in the Corbridge office and oversees the management of several in-hand and contract farmed arable and livestock units across Northern England. He also provides advice on single payment, agri-environment and budgeting issues to a variety of landowners and farmers in the region.
Architecture, Building Surveying & Planning Debbie Mackay Partner t. 0131 344 0891 e. debbie.mackay@smithsgore.co.uk The head of planning in Scotland, Debbie works with a wide range of institutional, charitable and private clients. Her expertise includes promoting land through the development plan process, negotiating large complex planning applications and managing consultancy teams. She advises on housing, mixed use and renewable energy schemes and is experienced in negotiating rural occupancy restrictions. Debbie sits on the housing and communities group and the planning sub group of Scottish Land and Estates.
Ian Mark t. 01668 281611 e. ian.mark@smithsgore.co.uk Ian is an experienced architectural technologist who has built up a wide ranging portfolio of projects in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, including new build houses as well as the restoration and conversion of old buildings, focusing on traditional construction methods and classic design criteria. Ian joined Smiths Gore as part of the merger with Sale & Partners’ Wooler office in January 2014.
Sustainability & Renewable Energy Thomas McMillan Associate t. 0131 344 0886 e. thomas.mcmillan@smithsgore.co.uk Thomas is head of our sustainability and renewable energy team in Scotland and the north of England. He has over 10 years’ experience in the sector with practical expertise including site screening, project scoping, environmental impact assessments, planning, grid connection, design, project management, financial management and contract negotiations. He is currently involved in renewable energy projects ranging from 10kW to 50MW, including wind, hydro, anaerobic digestion, biomass and solar photovoltaic schemes.
Forestry & Woodland Andy Greathead Partner t. 01620 828979 e. andy.greathead@smithsgore.co.uk Andy is head of the firm’s forestry, woodland and arboriculture team, working with a wide range of private and institutional clients. He has particular expertise in strategic forest planning, forestry valuation and tree surveys. He is a member of the Forestry Commission’s private sector production forecast working group and the Dothistroma needle blight programme board.
Tom Black t. 01620 828978 e. tom.black@smithsgore.co.uk Tom joined Smiths Gore in 2013 after completing an MSc in Forest Ecosystem Management at the National School of Forestry. He is involved in a wide range of woodland management functions on mixed lowland estates, including the planning and supervision of plantation establishment, restocking, restructuring and wildlife management programmes. He also plans and supervises timber harvesting operations, production forecasting and co-operative timber marketing.

Based in our Haddington office, he undertakes woodland management on mixed lowland estates including the planning and supervision of plantation establishment, restocking, restructuring and wildlife management programmes. An Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters, he is experienced in accessing forestry grant aided schemes in Scotland.
