YOUR CRUISE HOLIDAY DAY BY DAY Lloret de Mar (Pre-Cruise)
Lloret de Mar is one of the biggest and liveliest resorts on the Costa Brava. Lloret de Mar has an abundance of clubs, bars and discotheques open pretty much 24 hours – well almost! Many families also enjoy this family friendly tourist resort due to the fabulous beaches and plentiful facilities. Boasting over four miles of coastline – not just sandy beaches, there are also some nice coves in which you can generally escape the crowds on the main beaches.
Palma de Mallorca
A rugged island with fine beaches, Mallorca welcomes travellers seeking sun, sea and sand. Its capital city of Palma is home to a lively cafés and arts scene, historic sights and an Old Town of twisting lanes and hidden courtyards. On the one hand, this city, founded by the Romans some 2,100 years ago, is replete with (literally) wall-to-wall history and architectural splendour. You can journey back in time and wander the mazes of alleyways and cobblestone paths that surround the Gothic cathedral. On the other hand, Palma is bustling with life, showcasing the island’s best restaurants, shops, nightlife and a vibrant art scene.
Provence (Marseilles)
France’s oldest city is one of its most dynamic, with a melting pot culture and vibrant arts scene. The soul of the city is its Vieux Port, the working waterfront. Amongst the many terracotta-roofed buildings, lies many intriguing sights including the Cathedral of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde. Founded in 600 BC., Marseille is also a gateway port to the scenic villages and coastal areas of Provence., such as the city of Avignon and the quaint villages of Le Baux & Aix en Provence.
La Spezia (Cinque Terre/Florence/Pisa)
A former fishing village at the border of two enchanting regions, La Spezia offers easy access to Tuscany and its great cities like Florence and Pisa and the Liguria’s rugged coast and terraced villages known as Cinque Terre. Enjoy the magnificent city of Florence, pause in the Piazza del Duomo to admire the exterior of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore or view the statues in Piazza della Signoria on your way to Ponte Vecchio. You may continue to the historic town of Pisa for a look at the famous leaning tower built in the 12th century. Or else just head to Cinque Terre from the port of La Spezia to explore the unique beauty of these world known coastal villages.
Civitavecchia (Rome)
Endless adventures await in Rome. With two and a half thousand years of history, art and culture, it is no wonder Rome is one of the most visited cities on the planet. From the monuments of the ancient empire to the pursuit of la dolce vita, the Eternal City is an unrivaled open-air museum and a lively modern metropolis. Gaze at the masterpieces of the Vatican or walk into the past with visits to ancient relics, historic monuments and legendary museums. Or people-watch whilst sipping on an espresso in a quaint cafe.
Naples (Capri)
One of Europe's oldest cities, Naples is vibrant and filled with rich artistic and architectural heritage. Nearby sights include the ruins of ancient Pompeii uncovers and the jewel-like towns that dot the Amalfi Coast. Of course, one of the most famous nearby attraction is Capri, a fabled resort for pleasure seekers even in ancient Rome, a legendary reputation as the “Island of Love”. Take a boat trip to the entrancing Isle of Capri, and explore Capri Town. Wander its quaint streets and explore its shops and cafés. Discover the Gardens of Augustus, overlooking the famous Faraglioni of Capri and Marina Piccola.
Barcelona
A top European centre for art, architecture, design and cuisine, this stylish city has its own language and culture. The soul of Barcelona is the Gothic Quarter; outside the medieval district. Visit the unfinished Sagrada Familia. With eight soaring spires and a spectacular main façade, this cathedral is a true architectural masterpiece. Stroll along Las Ramblas, a wonderfully vibrant part of the city where street vendors and performers vie for your attention.
