Later head back towards the hotel where you can embark on yet another excursion this time to Kairouan and Port El Kantaoui. When exploring the pretty, whitewashed medina, you’ll enjoy wonderful views of the shimmering Mediterranean and the 16th-century El Kebir fortress (entrance included). Later head towards El Jem. The ancient amphitheatre at El Jem is a dramatic and impressive sight, both because of its awesome size and solidity in relation to the modern buildings surrounding it, and because, like all ruins, it’s a sober reminder of the inevitable fleetingness of achievement. Built on a low plateau halfway between Sousse and Sfax, the colosseum and mosaic-filled archaeological museum are all the evidence you need to begin to grasp the scope of Roman civilisation in Africa.

Tuesday 19th March: After breakfast, we encourage you to join the tour leader and a local Englishspeaking local guide for an excursion to Zakopane and its surroundings. Nestled in the foothills of the Tatras mountains, Zakopane is Poland’s best-known mountain resort. Originally a seventeenth century forestry settlement, Zakopane is now a sprawling town, close to the Slovak border at the edge of the Tatra Mountains National Park. Visit Chocholow, a village comprised almost exclusively of heritage Polish wooden houses. You will also have the opportunity to visit the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Krzeptowki, a place closely related to Saint John Paul II. Later head back to your hotel in time for dinner (optional) and overnight. Wednesday 20th March: Today, after breakfast join the tour leader for a full day excursion to Krakow. Wawel Castle is a major drawcard, while the Old Town contains soaring churches, impressive museums and the vast Rynek Główny, Europe’s largest market square. In the former Jewish quarter, Kazimierz, remnant synagogues reflect the tragedy of the 20th century, while lively squares and backstreets symbolise the renewal of the 21st. Here and throughout the Old Town are hundreds of restaurants, bars and clubs. However, there’s more to the former royal capital than history. During your free time, walk through the Old Town, and you might be overwhelmed by the harmony of a quiet backstreet, the ‘just so’ nature of the architecture and light. At times like these Kraków reveals its harmonious blend of past and present, an essential part of any visit to Poland. Later head back to your hotel for dinner (optional) and overnight.

The French Riviera & Mini-Cruise on Board the Costa Fascinosa

starting from

Visiting: Menton, San Remo, Monaco, Savona, Naples and Catania Friday 29th March: Meet the tour leader at the Malta International Airport for check in on your direct Ryan Air flight to Marseille departing at 0820hrs. Upon arrival your private coach will take you to your Ibis Styles Hotel in Menton, for check in and room allocation. The seaside town of Menton offers a glimpse of what the high life on the Riviera must have been like before the developers moved in. With its sunny climate, shady streets and pastel mansions – not to mention a lovely old port – it’s one of the most attractive towns on the entire coast. Menton’s old town is a cascade of pastelcoloured buildings. To French people, the town is also known for its lemons, which are renowned for their particular flavour. Later join your tour leader and the English-speaking local guide for a short excursion to the Italian town of San Remo. Italy’s own Monte Carlo, a sun-dappled Mediterranean resort with a casino, a clutch of ostentatious villas and lashings of Rivierastyle grandeur. Known colloquially as the City of Flowers for its colourful summer blooms, San Remo also stages an annual music festival (the supposed inspiration for the Eurovision Song Contest) and the world’s longest professional one-day cycling race, the 298km Milan– San Remo classic. Later head back to Menton for dinner (optional) and overnight. Saturday 30th March: Today we offer you an unforgettable full day excursion to Monaco. Monaco might be the world’s second-smallest country (only the Vatican is smaller), but what it lacks in size it makes up for in attitude. A magnet for high-rollers and hedonists since the early 20th century, it’s also renowned as one of the world’s most notorious tax havens and home to the annual Formula One Grand Prix. During the mid-19th century the city became a magnet for regal European exiles, such as Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Tsar Nicola of Russia, who favoured the town’s balmy winters. Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel maintained a villa here, and an onion-domed Russian Orthodox church reminiscent of Moscow’s St Basil’s Cathedral still turns heads down by the seafront. Later head back to Menton for dinner (optional) and overnight.

€379 in Triple Room

Wednesday 17th April: Meet the tour leader at 1330hrs at the Malta International Airport for check-in on your direct Emirates Airlines flight to Larnaca departing at 1530hrs. Upon arrival at 1855hrs, your private coach will head towards Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus. Check-in, room allocation and dinner (optional) will follow before overnight. Thursday 18th April: Today, after breakfast, join the tour leader for a full day excursion to Kyrenia and its surroundings. Kyrenia has always been governed by the sea and its natural harbour, once coveted by anyone with dreams of empire and bustling with traders and exporters, is today just as popular with visitors whose only desire is to stroll the seaside strand. Stride up the honey-toned stone ramparts of Kyrenia Castle (entrance included), before heading towards Bellapais monastery (entrance included). Originally built in the 12th century by monks fleeing Palestine after the fall of Jerusalem, the site remains much as it was in 1976, when the last of the stoic Orthodox faithful had to leave. Later head towards St. Hilarion Castle (entrance included). The full fairy-tale outline of St Hilarion Castle only becomes apparent once you’re directly beneath it. The stone walls and halfruined buildings blend into the rocky landscape, creating a dreamscape castle plucked from a child’s imagination, complete with hidden rooms, tunnels and crumbling towers. Rumour has it that Walt Disney drew inspiration from the jagged contours of St Hilarion when he created the animated film Snow White. Return to your hotel in time for dinner (optional) and overnight. Friday 19th April: After breakfast, we offer you a full day excursion to the Trodos Mountains area in the Republic of Cyprus. Home to Mount Olympus, the island’s highest peak, this stunning mountain range provides visitors with a forested flip side to the coastal resorts and big-city clamour. In addition to the natural beauty of the landscape, the Trodos Mountains are home to a variety of postcard-pretty villages with cobbled streets, terraced slopes and vernacular architecture. The region’s peaks and valleys also hide some of the island’s most important medieval frescoed churches, along with unexpected monasteries, museums and some of the Republic’s finest wineries including the Comandaria Wine and Hot Nuts tasting (entrance included). Later head back to your hotel for dinner (optional) and overnight. Saturday 20th April: Soon after breakfast join your tour leader for another full day excursion to Lefkosa, the old

city in North Nicosia. As you wander around northern Cyprus’ old town, unexpected architectural twists whisper of civilisations that took over from one another throughout the centuries - and nowhere is this more apparent than in the Cypriot capital, bisected since 1964 into Nicosia (Lefkosia)and North Nicosia (Lefkoşa). The splendid Selimiye Mosque (entrance included), once the Gothic-style Cathedral of St Sofia, lords over the city with its twin minarets added by the Ottomans. During your free time you can cross the no-man’s land from north to south at the Ledra Street checkpoint, where hectic bazaar stalls give way to fancy boutique windows, Turkish signs morph into Greek script, and street-side chatter switches to different sounds. Return back to your hotel for dinner (optional) and overnight. Sunday 21st April: After breakfast a full day excursion to one’s of the island’s last true wilderness, the Karpaz peninsula awaits you today. A Mediterranean rural idyll of rolling fields, olive groves and remote white-sand beaches licked by shallow turquoise water. Set between a spine of undulating hills, country roads weave between forgotten archaeological sites, ruined churches and sleepy villages up to the thin tapering finger of land at the eastern tip where wild donkeys wander onto the roads and turtles’ nest on dune-backed Golden Beach. (make sure to bring along your swimming costumes - you might be lucky enough to open up your 2019’s swimming season). Later head back to your hotel for dinner (optional) and overnight. Monday 22nd April: After breakfast join the tour leader for a full day excursion to the beautiful coastal walled city of Famagusta. Winding lanes rimmed with terrace rows of houses suddenly give way to ruined Gothic churches, the most famous of which is the former Cathedral of Saint Nicholas. You will also visit the monastery of Saint Barnabas; the founder of the Cypriot Orthodox Church and the ancient-city-kingdom of Salamis. Later head back to your hotel for dinner (optional) and overnight.
