Stride up the honey-toned stone ramparts of Kyrenia Castle (entrance included), before heading towards Bellapais monastery (entrance included). Originally built in the 12th century by monks fleeing Palestine after the fall of Jerusalem, the site remains much as it was in 1976, when the last of the stoic Orthodox faithful had to leave. The stone walls and half-ruined buildings blend into the rocky landscape, creating a dreamscape castle plucked from a child’s imagination, complete with hidden rooms, tunnels and crumbling towers. Mid-afternoon you will go on another amazing safari (included) which will end at Sunset Rock. A place and an experience, which many refer as the absolute highlights of the entire tour. This is where you will enjoy a glass of bubbly, chilled champagne, while the sun slowly sets over the Waterberg Mountains in a cascade of red and orange colours. Right there in the middle of the grandiose African landscape, at a time of infinite beauty, you will feel as if no time is passing – and wish it never would. You will drive around in an open Land Cruiser, which ensures the best possible view and photo opportunities. Later in the morning, when hunger arises, you will end your safari at Kudu Rock. Here you will be served a wonderful, traditional and lavish African Champagne Brunch, whilst you enjoy the magnificent view of the African bush. Afterwards you return to the lodge for relaxation. Thursday 31st October: Half day Big 5 Safari (opt.) and game drive with Sunset

Friday 1st November: Apartheid Museum, Johannesburg and Soweto (incl.) English breakfast, followed by room check out and then you will head to Johanessburg. You will visit the Apartheid Museum which was inaugurated, as the first of its kind, in 2001. The museum gives us an emotional insight into how the indigenous black South African population, from 1948 until the final abolition of apartheid in 1994, lived an unimaginable existence. Your next stop is South Western Townships – or as it is better known, Soweto. Placed only 15km from the Johannesburg city centre this, at one time famous and infamous, neighbourhood covers an acreage of just 63km2. It is estimated that approx. 4 million people reside in this small area. Today, Soweto has much better areas with schools, a university, sport clubs and hospitals. Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Winnie Mandela still reside in Soweto. During the trip you will also make a stop at the famous Hector Pietersen Memorial, where you will have the opportunity to buy some souvenirs at the local crafts market. You will continue on to Johannesburg. Whilst driving through the city, you cannot help but feel the pulse of what characterises South Africa’s largest metropolis. An economic and industrial focal point, where little over 120 years ago there was nothing but untouched savannah. Today it is the predominant economic centre of South Africa. The history of Johannesburg began when the Australian George Harrison found gold in Witwatersrand in 1886. Early in the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight with transit, arriving the next day. This is a definitely an experience, which will remain pleasantly in your thoughts for a long, long time to come, perhaps forever.

Kyrenia Excursions:

Joining one of our excursions in North Cyprus, is the ideal way for exploring the beautiful and untainted countryside, sandy beaches, ancient historical sites and rugged mountains of this remarkable island. Whilst having your base in one hotel , you can explore the whole area; the two major touristic towns of Famagusta & Kyrenia, the capital - Nicosia and the beautiful unspoilt and remote peninsula of Karpaz. North Cyprus has so much to offer to its visitors, and through our wide range of excursions we help you experience it all! All the excursions are organised by the local agent and are English speaking.

Nicosia

Famagusta

MONDAYS & THURSDAYS: HALF DAY Be part of history and immerse yourself in Lefkoşa. Wander around North Cyprus’ old town with unexpected architectural twists that reflect the past civilisations and the capital’s division since 1964 into Nicosia (Lefkosia)and North Nicosia (Lefkoşa). The splendid Selimiye Mosque, once the Gothic-style Cathedral of St Sofia, lords over the city with its twin minarets added by the Ottomans. During your free time you can cross the no-man’s land from north to south at the Ledras Street checkpoint, where hectic bazaar stalls give way to fancy boutique windows, Turkish signs morph into Greek script, and street-side chatter switches to different sounds.

TUESDAYS: FULL DAY This historical city got its name from the noble Venetian family of Augusta. Today the beautiful coastal walled city of Famagusta awaits you. Winding lanes rimmed with terrace rows of houses suddenly give way to ruined Gothic churches, the most famous of which is the former Cathedral of Saint Nicholas. You will also visit the monastery of Saint Barnabas; the founder of the Cypriot Orthodox Church and the ancient city-kingdom of Salamis. Adults: €50.00 Children: €25.00

Light Lunch included

Adults: €35.00 Children: €17.50

Kyrenia

WEDNESDAYS: FULL DAY Kyrenia has always been governed by the sea and its natural harbour, is today just as popular with visitors whose only desire is to stroll the seaside strand. Stride up the honey-toned stone ramparts of Kyrenia Castle, before heading towards Bellapais monastery, the exquisite ruins of an Augustinian monastery. Originally built in the 12th century by monks, the site remains much as it was in 1976. Later head towards St. Hilarion Castle. The full fairy-tale castle only becomes apparent once you are directly beneath it. Rumour has it that Walt Disney drew inspiration from the jagged contours of St Hilarion when he created the animated film Snow White. Adults: €45.00 Children: €22.50

Light Lunch included

Boat Tour

TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS: FULL DAY Would you like to cool down in the waters of love and beauty? Then join this lovely boat cruise aboard the beautifully crafted traditional wooden boat that sails from Kyrenia’s harbour. Depending on the prevailing weather conditions, your captain for the day would choose the best route with several stops for you to best enjoy this marvelous day at sea. A light lunch will be served accompanied by the traditional meze’s, whilst you can swim and sunbathe all along. You can rest assured that the vitamin D that your body will absorb will last you for months to come. Adults: €45.00 Children: €22.50

Light Lunch included

Karpaz Peninsula

FRIDAYS: FULL DAY Enjoy yourself to one of the island’s last true wilderness; the Karpaz Peninsula. A Mediterranean rural idyll of rolling fields, olive groves and remote white-sand beaches licked by shallow turquoise water. Set between a spine of undulating hills, country roads weave between forgotten archaeological sites, ruined churches and sleepy villages up to the thin tapering finger of land at the eastern tip where wild donkeys wander onto the roads and turtles’ nest on dune-backed Golden Beach. Adults: €50.00 Children: €25.00

Light Lunch included

Güzelyurt & Lefke Tour

SATURDAYS: FULL DAY Once the center of Cyprus’ lucrative citrus industry, Güzelyurt which literally means beautiful country in Turkish, is one of the richest agricultural areas in North Cyprus. With vast groves that stretch all the way from coast to coast, immerse yourself in fragrant citrus groves and miles of strawberry fields. The Güzelyurt Bay region is also home to several fascinating historical sites, including the ancient Greek city of Soli and the mysterious ruins known as Vouni Palace, the ancient Persian palace. Complete your day with a drink or two watching over the blue seas and listening to the calming sound of the waves. Adults: €45.00 Children: €22.50

Excursions (included) Fascinating Cavtat & Konavle Valley

In the morning we have a scenic drive though the most southern part of Croatia flanked on one side by the sea and on the other side by the border to Bosnia-Hercegovina. We have a short photo-stop high above Dubrovnik where we have a birds-eye view of this wonderful city. We continue inland to the fertile Konavle Valley and have a look at the Old Mill next to the cascading waters of the Ljuta River. From there we proceed to the enchanting seaside resort of Cavtat, once a prosperous Greek and Roman colony. It is now more relaxed and quite charming making it a preferred destination for the area’s many yachtsmen. You can almost feel time slow down as you wander the seaside promenade and quiet streets on your own. Enjoy a coffee in one of the splendid seaside bars, take a photo of the pretty bay or do some souvenir shopping. A picturesque drive along the coastal road takes us back to the port of Dubrovnik in time for lunch on the ship. Duration: ca. 4 hours. Stress level: 2

The walled city of Dubrovnik & the Island of Lokrum

After lunch we have a short 15-minute drive from the port of Dubrovnik to the Old Town where we have a 1-hour guided tour of the city, a city of unique beauty and harmony, spread out on the stone rocks and cliffs descending into the embrace of the sea and the waves. The main street is known as the Stradun and many of the city’s attractions are right here, including several monasteries, and the elegant 16th century Venetian Gothic Sponza Palace, once the city’s Custom House and notable for its fine courtyard columns and elaborate stone carvings. Dubrovnik’s famed symbol of freedom, a carved figure of an armoured knight, adorns the Orlando Column in a nearby square. After the walking tour you can either have free time for souvenir shopping or take the boat to Lokrum Island (boat and entr. fee to the island not incl ca. €20). Today the island is a Special Reserve of Forest Vegetation under the strict protection of UNESCO. You can wander around the island (no cars are on this island) discover the monastery complex, Charlotte’s Well or the Gardens of Maximillian, chose to have a coffee at the open-air cafeteria or just go for refreshing swim on the rocky beaches. Our bus will return from Dubrovnik to the ship at 18.00 hours.

Duration: ca. 4 hours. Stress level: 3

Alberobello & the Unesco Site of the Trulli

Departing from the port of Bari we discover that in Italy’s most southeastern region, there lies a most astounding valley. To get there, we drive through golden fields of grain and past gently undulating hills. And then you come to the Murge Valley. All of a sudden a vibrant green washes across the landscape, thanks to small groves of an oversized oak tree that grows only here. You will also see tropical vegetation - palm trees and bougainvilleas and gigantic hibiscus - as well as larger and healthier olive groves. And interspersed among all this verdant beauty, you will see the strange conical houses that exist only here. At first they appear one by one, like solitary mirages cowering amidst the olive trees. Gradually, as you drive on, they grow taller, and their whitewashed bases make them more visible. Soon you are spotting them in clusters of up to a dozen all attached to each other to make one larger dwelling. And then you drive into the little town of Alberobello, where they cover four entire hillsides, seeming for all the world like a cheerful white nativity scene recreated to true human dimensions. If this were California, Mr. Disney’s name would be visible on a neon sign. But it’s Apulia, and these houses were first built many centuries ago by the local inhabitants and were declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1996. (Attention: This excursion includes a rather strenuous 20 minutes walk from the bus parking area to the centre of the Trulli)

Duration: ca. 4 hours. Stress level: 4

Split & Trogir

Situated in a small island squeezed in between the mainland and the larger island of Ciovo, Trogir is connected to the mainland with a bridge. Except for the green parks the entire island is occupied by spectacular constructions: bleached stone houses, palaces, churches, monasteries, towers, walls etc. The streets are narrow and they truly give a feel of how life might have been in the old days. You will see from the outside the main attraction in Trogir - the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. This 13th century building is probably the finest example of sacral architecture in Croatia. The unusual construction with three naves and three semi circular apses dominates the whole town. Other fine buildings that will be viewed are the Town Loggia decorated with stone carvings, including one by great Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic, the Town Hall, the Cipiko Palace etc. Continue with the drive back to Split. The Old Town of Split is built on and around the spectacular Roman Palace erected in the 4th century. During your walking tour you will see the Diocletian Palace and the very interesting Cathedral of St. Duje (patron saint of the city). The Cathedral is built on the remains of an ancient shrine and is supposed to be the oldest in the world. On your tour you will also see the Golden Gate, the Silver Gate and the Peristyle Square. After the walking tour you may spend some free time in the biggest city of Dalmatia and return on your own to the ship.

Duration: ca. 4 hours. Stress level: 3

Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

We depart early from Koper to visit Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia and one of the most charming cities in all of Europe, filled with museums, theatres, historic sites and many other attractions. During the 1.5 hour bus drive to reach the city, you can marvel at the beautiful countryside of Slovenia. After reaching the capital we will spend some 2.5 hours in the historic centre. Ljubljana’s Old Town is filled with churches and buildings dating all the way back to medieval times. The old world charm continues at Ljubljana Castle, whose tower (entrance fee not included) provides a magnificent view of the city. At the city centre lies Prešeren Square, which features the famous statue of Slovene national poet France Prešeren. Right off of the square is Cop Street, one of the main shopping streets in the city. The guide will walk with you to the Square of the Republic and will show you the Roman ruins which are a must. We continue our walk to the turn of the century Dragon Bridge and from there to Metelkova a place full of bars and nightlife. We return to Koper in the early afternoon. Duration: ca. 5.5 hours. Tuesday, 03rd September Amsterdam (ljmuiden) Ijmuiden, pronounced “Eye Muiden” for non-Dutch speakers, is located at the entrance of the Amsterdam North Sea Canal. Ijmuiden is a small town that functions mainly as a gateway to Amsterdam, being only 26km away. Affectionately known as the “Venice of the North,” Amsterdam is actually situated below sea level and built entirely on stakes driven into the ground. The Anne Frank House, The Hague and a Delft Blue Pottery Factory are just a few of the sights that await your arrival. Monday, 09th September Reykjavik, Iceland Europe’s northernmost and westernmost capital is a delightful destination, part of old Norse, part modern city, with a quirky personality of its own. One of the

advantages of Reykjavik is being able to see it on foot. You can find a wide choice of museums, galleries, restaurants and café. The downtown area is rather small and walkable. The ship will do another overnight in Reykjavik, thus you have really all the time to discover this amazing place. Thursday, 12th September Belfast (Northern Ireland) Belfast has undergone an enormous transformation in recent years. Today, free from the mayhem that once was, this capital city of Northern Ireland has done a terrific job in both recovering from her tumultuous recent past and creating a thriving, positive public image. With new cultural quarters—the Cathedral Quarter, the Gaeltacht Quarter, the Queen’s Quarter and the Titanic Quarter—the former linen and shipbuilding epicentre is a flourishing community that blends industry with culture. Here, where the Titanic was so carefully built, you can see beautifully restored Victorian architecture, indulge in retail therapy at a fabulous shopping centre, and enjoy the quintessentially Irish experience at the lively waterfront, which is a friendly hub of live music, overflowing pubs and modern art.
