WHY IS APPLYING PROPER TORQUE
WHERE TORQUE REALLY MATTERS...
IMPORTANT?
Applying accurate torque is critical to assembly applications, engines and precision equipment. Creating a proper clamp load is the main objective when applying torque to a fastener. Engine cylinder heads, pipe coupling, wheels, all need to be “clamped” uniformly to specific torque values. There are 3 main factors that affect the correct application of torque: condition of components, accuracy of torque instrument and properly applied torque values. Applying torque incorrectly can lead to stripped threads, premature loosening or broken fasteners, that can cause catastrophic failure, whilst leaking joints may cause engine or equipment failures.

WHY DO I NEED A TECHANGLE?

Tighten with torque AND angle
Some applications require fasteners to be tightened to a specific torque and then turning a specific number of degrees (angle) – for example, some Renault Diesel engine timing belts require the lower pulley to be tightened to 30Nm with a further turn of 140 degrees. TechAngle gives you accuracy and confidence!

Save time and...money
An example of where you can save valuable time is cylinder head replacements. On a Mercedes Sprinter 4 cylinder engine, the cylinder head bolts are tightened in 3 stages: • Stage 1 – Tighten to 60Nm of torque from Bolt 1 • Stage 2 – Add further turn of 90 degrees from Bolt 1 • Stage 3 – Add a further turn of 90 degrees from Bolt 1 Compared to a conventional ‘click and dial’ gauge you can save approx. 30-40 mins by using a TechAngle!

Fitting of key components such as Knock Sensors
Some sensors feature internal piezo crystal membranes. A given sensor may need to be fitted at a torque of 18Nm. At 21Nm, the crystal membrane will break, resulting in a broken part. Don’t risk breaking parts – use a TechAngle!
