This project was completed as part of the San Francisco urban
S TU M housing above. Also, potentially historic wall was located on site, and as SP D a team we decided to maintain it throughout the project. The targeted number RI IO of units was between 44 and 60, and this design houses 52 units, ranging through N yr studio, 1-bed and 2-bed units. The exterior design is meant to both embrace the idea G 4 of a traditional San Francisco bay window, and emulate a city skyline. The concept behind 20 building massing and organization of units was to give as much daylighting and views to the units 12 as possible, while maintaining a protected inner area for community gathering spaces. use building with commercial spaces on the lower floors and affordable

project, the new east los angeles college student center, is a real project that is to be done by Erlich Architects, who met with the class for 3 critical critiques and presentations. The proposed student center contains many different functions, such as a cafeteria,

Piazza IV Marzo in Torino, Italy, is a unique space in the city, because it is one of the few Medieval historical sites that does not follow a roman grid system. On the site there is an existing wall from the Medieval period which must be preserved. After living in Italy for a few months, I realized how “solid” much of the architecture was, and how public spaces are limited to the ground floor only, leaving little opportunity for citizens to view their city. To combat this, I designed a undulating glass curtain wall to hang behind the existing historical wall and throughout the rest of the facade, which could be concealed by movable screens reminiscent of traditional Italian window shutters. Also, the public space extends through every

L For my 5th and final year at Cal Poly, I would like to expand my creativity and thinking in the field of architecture much more than I have in the past. Not only do I want to explore new shapes and aesthetics that I have not tried already, but I also wish to add more conceptual, large-scale ideas behind my designs. I would also like to spend time getting to learn and master new digital programs and tools, such as rendering software and laser cutting. To help both of these goals, I feel I should explore physical model making more throughout 5th year, not only for the final product, but also in the beginning stages. I feel that physical modeling has become the last item to be

considered in some design studios I have had in the past, and I realize that it is a lacking piece of my architectural experience. I would like to leave Cal Poly with as well-rounded of an education as possible.
PROFES SION AL GOAL S & D IRECT ION Upon graduation, I plan to enter the workforce at an architecture or design firm. This probably means that I will begin my job search before the end of the school year, in order to secure a position starting within a few months. Ideally, I would like to take the first summer months after graduation to travel. However, I realize that in the current job market and the way architecture schools and firms can sometimes be structured, I realize that the wish of vacation time may not be a reality. In the future, I would like to attend a graduate school for a profession related to architecture, but I do not feel that it is adventageous for me to do so at this time.
