FIGHT THE FRIZZ

As winter weather takes its toll, frizzy hair will be a common complaint for clients across the UK. British Hairdresser of the Year and Creative Director for Russell Eaton Hair, Robert Eaton, gives his top tips on fighting the frizz.

QUALITY CHECK

The use of quality hair products is vital if your client’s hair is on the dry and frizzy side. I would always recommend that clients suffering from dry and frizzy hair include a weekly hair mask or leave-in conditioner in their hair routine, as they are specifically designed to help to calm frizz by rebuilding the structure of the hair. Over time, this will help their hair to become shinier, more resilient and stronger. It’s also worth clients investing in regular in-salon treatments to help combat frizz.

GIVE IT A REST

Giving hair a rest from heat is also important. For many clients, daily styling and blow-drying can have a very drying and damaging effect on their hair, resulting in frizz.

So, giving hair a break from heated tools for a day or two a week can be hugely beneficial.

HOT STUFF

When blow-drying a client’s hair, these are the steps I advise taking to help prevent frizz.

STEP 1: Adding a blow-dry cream before applying heat creates the right foundations to style the client’s hair as it smooths away signs of damage or frizz, leaving hair glossy, shiny and healthy looking. Make sure you take time to comb through the hair for an even distribution of products.

STEP 2: Apply a heat-protection spray before you begin the blow-dry. This provides an invisible barrier and will leave the hair looking shiny and healthy, even after heat has been applied.

STEP 3: Once you have finished blowdrying and styling, choose an appropriate finishing product, depending on their hair type, to seal the hair and protect against the elements.
