Charlene Malcolm is a creative hairdresser with a passion for textured hair. She works at the Francesco Group salon in Wolverhampton.

Who has been your main hairdressing mentor? Michelle Thompson, educator and textured hair specialist at Francesco Group. She’s so knowledgeable and talented when it comes to textured hair.

Favourite relaxing thing to do? Spending time with my son, being a mum.

Most treasured possession? My son, he is my world!

Career highlight to date? Working with an all-black creative team on a shoot and content for the first Black Issue of Tribu-te magazine, which was published in Summer 2021.

Favourite colour brand?

L’Oréal Professionnel Paris

Colour, cut or style? All of the above!

Favourite food? Caribbean — it’s full of flavour and spice.

Favourite city? London. It’s such a pretty city, with lots of hidden gems.

Biggest fear you have had to overcome to succeed in your career? Managing clients’ high expectations due to what they have seen on social media.

Worst haircut you have ever had? I’m happy to say, I’ve not had a bad haircut. @charhair_

Celebrity you would most like to meet? Rihanna! Her style is flawless.

Best thing about hairdressing? Working with different hair types, textures and products.

What inspires you? Creative directors. I love how they think outside the box with hair.

A song you will never tire of? Robin S - Show Me Love – it’s a timeless classic.

Favourite hair trend? I love the bob, whether it’s short/long, graduated, descending, asymmetric or one length, curly or straight.

Favourite celebrity hair colour? Demi Lovato’s pink pixie.

Any creative ambitions? I would love to work more with vivid colours. I am always working on my photography and social media skills.

Starter or dessert? Both! I am such a foodie.

Styling product you couldn’t live without? Avlon Hair Milk.

Favourite colouring technique? Freehand balayage. I love being able to do bespoke colour placement for each individual client.
