Meet tHE Faculty

Dr. Doug Blais Hi! My name is Doug Blais, I’m a faculty member at SNHU, I teach in Sports Management, I’ve been here for 25 years and I’ve been the Faculty Athletic Representative fort the past 19 years.

Why I chose SNHU

Why I became interested in my field

I’m an alum of what was then New Hampshire College, now SNHU. When I was finishing my doctoral program at the University of Connecticut an opportunity came up for me to come back to teach at New Hampshire College and I’ve been here ever since. Advice for students Follow your passion as I did, it was something I knew I wanted to do, I set my goal and by following your passion you’ll be doing something that you truly love. Another advice are internships, I think its one of the most critical things a student can do no matter what field you’re in, specifically in business. The best way to learn more about the industry, know what you like and what you don’t like, and grow your contacts through internships.

Teaching is something that I’ve always been interested in doing and I remember as an undergraduate student discussing with faculty what it takes to get a Ph.D. and what its like teach, and every faculty member encouraged me to teach and told me they really enjoyed it, so I looked into marrying two of my passions: sports and business (I had a masters degree in Business Administration). Its been very exciting to teach Sports Management at SNHU. Fun fact

I married my high school sweetheart who is also a professor here at SNHU, Christine Blais, and we’ve been married for 31 years and have two daughters: Carly and Grace.

ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

How does Christmas affect the economy? Christmas is a civil holiday celebrated by a number of religious and non-religious people, this is one of the most popular festivities, boosting the economy, seasonal employment, production, ads, discounts, and retail sales, that according to Statista reached 750 billion U.S. dollars for 2020, particularly in decorations, Christmas trees, toys, food and drinks. According to Statista for 2021 people expect to spend $886 dollars on Christmas gifts. Considering this season is followed by Black Friday on November 26th, the boosting of production and sales is even larger. Even though Christmas is considered by some as a form of capitalism and others are even faced in January with debt and high expenses, it can not be denied that Christmas is one of the most impactful holidays in our economy.
