Michael Boland 1. Tell us about yourself?

My name is Michael Boland. I am an adjunct professor in the SNHU School of Business. I have been teaching since Spring 2021. My corporate career started in Canada with my most meaningful position as head of Marketing for LEGO Canada. For me, that was the best job of my career. I had an inspirational leader who inspired me to lead the Marketing Team when he left to pursue another position. I joined the management team and help chart the course for Marketing in Canada but was also part of the management team that help chart the wellness of the organization and the people that worked there. I moved to the US headquarters and worked there for another 9 years in various marketing roles. From there I remained in the toy industry and moved from Hasbro to TOMY and eventually VELCRO in NH who were working on a toy line. I was passionate about the toy industry being a big kid and entertainment enthusiast.

2. What / Who inspires the most?

I have always been inspired or drawn to leaders that take a personal interest in you as an employee. If a higher up remembers your name, what you do and gives you acknowledgement in a public way it can give you that extra lift to do better in your role. These leaders have a natural gift and energy to make it seem like you are important to making the organization successful. You want to do well and continue to be someone who is important on the team or company.

School OF BUSINESS 3. Why did I choose SNHU? When COVID hit, the marketing field was hit hard, many people cut advertising and marketing and felt that it was an expenditure they could do without. It was tough being unemployed during this time. I had been a guest lecturer and a friend’s class in UMASS and UCONN and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought that I could teach people what I have experienced and thought that SNHU was a perfect place for me to give back. I applied to the School of Business who were looking for adjuncts in Marketing and got the role of adjunct in the Marketing area. At the time everything was virtual so I did not see the campus for a full year while teaching hybrid or on-line courses. I continue to love the campus for its charm.

4. What has been your favorite class to teach?

MBA 560 was my first class and I would say my favorite. I enjoyed working with industry partners to solve their issues and liked have the students come up with great solutions for them. I have kept in touch with some previous business partners and they have been appreciative of the work the students have done and many have put the insights to practice. I also liked the fact that the course helped build the student’s resume.
