School OF BUSINESS Meet tHE Faculty

Dr. Elizabeth Henley Hi! I'm Dr. Liz Henley in the Management Science and Information Systems department. My specialty area is Computer Information Systems and I also teach Graduate Information Technology courses

Why I chose SNHU I came here as a student when the school I was going to went bankrupt. I really enjoyed the people and the community in general. So when there was an opportunity to continue working here and teaching full time I had to jump on it.

Why I became interested in my field I have always been interested in working with technology, starting from when I was in high school I designed some websites for different businesses. I really like the field of technology in general because there are so many different things that you can do with it. So I’ve had work experience before, doing media conversion, working with assistive technology, creating databases, and reporting, and there is just always so much that you can do, keep changing and evolving.

Advice for students First is to get experience out in the field to see what you like and what you don't with any major and technology, particularly where you have so many options such as doing an internship, part-time work, and working under different projects, which will give you that experience to know what you like and don't within the field. The second thing is to always keep learning, it is as easy as it sounds because fields are changing, keeping fresh with different skillsets, exploring, and continuing to grow is really great for any field.

Fun fact My fun fact is that I like to work with maker space technologies and digital humanities in particular, that has been a more recent shift in my background. I like to play with lasers, cutters, and engravers including that I made my own earrings.

WORKPLACE ETIQUETTE A healthy work environment is essential to perform your work properly, this includes knowing how to be professional, communicate, treat people, handle meetings and share common spaces, all of this depending on the corporate culture of your organization. Here are some tips that will help you have better interpersonal skills and make a good impression in your workspace: 1- Meetings: always arrive on time prepared to take notes and with your agenda. Dont eat if its not a lunch / dinner, sit up straight, dress accordingly for the type of meeting and introduce yourself, likewise address everyone for their preferred titles / pronouns.

Business Attire Interpersonal Skills

This is the most important etiquette to have while working, being mindful about how everyone's differences and boundaries, remembering people's names, active listening, not interrupting people, arrive on time to work, motivate your coworkers, be empathetic and a team player.

2- Emails: Proof read every email before sending, check all links and attachments work (make sure these are compressed if they are too heavy), be direct in your words, be careful using all caps. 3- Phone call: introduce yourself, take notes, return phone calls, and ask before placing people on hold. 4- Workspace: keep your workspace neat and organized, with adequate personal touches. Limit the use of the phone, food, loud noises or music that can be distracting, especially in a shared space.

International Customs

Working in an international environment means that we need to be respectful about differences like culture, religion, accents and work habits. For instance, in Asian countries work cards are given with both hands and are very important, in Saudi Arabia handshakes are usually not accepted, and in Latin American voice mails are usually not checked or should be short and precise.
