My Project is about creating kinetic art and space. The definition of Kinetic art that contains moving parts or depends on motion for its effect. The site of my project is Portobello Road, which is the home of the famous Portobello Market, internationally renowned for its antique and vintage items.
As I developed my own mechanism, I started to realize that the movement of Theo Jansen;s mechanism is very reminiscent of wings. This in turn made me realise that the mechanism of a wing is closely related to that of the shoulder, which is why I started to explore and focus on shoulder movements.
To relate back as to how this mechanism can be used in Portobello, I was focusing on window displays of fashion stores. Right now, most of them use static mannequins to display products. I created something that could possibly attract more attention from shoppers, by using kinetic art within this display. Implementing moving mannequins is the final result.
