“May the road rise up to meet you, and the wind be at your back.” - Gaelic Expression It’s all about geometry – the experts have taken care of the math. Endurance geometry is a techy term for a more comfortable setup that offers a mellower ride and is easier to manage over long distances, because road cycling is not just for competitive cyclists anymore. As social riding brings increasing numbers of new riders to the road, manufacturers are investing in new technology and expanding beyond

elite competition bikes that are easier on the rider’s body and more fun for a broader range of riders. Add to that the surging popularity of long-distance charity rides and Gran Fondo events, which are bringing a whole new group of riders to the sport, and it’s no wonder that manufacturers are investing in new technologies to create a broad range of bikes to suit every rider’s needs.

a little custom tailoring can make your ride better, faster, and way more fun.

finally! - the birds are singing, the cyclists are pedaling and the runners are pounding the pavement
Spring - At Last! We think of the possibilities: tennis outside, morning yoga class, or perhaps training for the Sporting Life 10k for a new personal best time, or just to run with friends for a great cause.
Or maybe it is a time to just… Ride! A bike is a child’s rite of passage. Who can forget that first ride where suddenly you are doing it all by yourself, and you’re free to explore your neighbourhood and ride with your friends. We still ride. We ride to get to work and to explore our cities. We ride bikes built to challenge ourselves on the trails and hills. We ride distances we never thought possible on roads

Riding a bike can be the most efficient way to get around a congested urban centre, and as more cities create bike lane networks, commuting by bike is becoming a more appealing option for many.
“It seems – particularly in cities – more people are riding their bikes as opposed to just owning a bike,” says Tim Botha, the equipment buyer at Sporting Life. “When I’m commuting to work, I’m definitely seeing more people along the way.”

GO BIGor go home helmets: making safety sexy While the trend of super-swervy vented helmets continues for athletic riders, urban riders have no more excuses to risk a ticket (or head injury) by leaving the helmet at home. “There are lots of great fits and technologies availablefor more urban silhouettes for people who are riding downtown and need something that looks a little more suitable with their streetwear,” Hagans says. For the best brain protection, look for a helmet with MIPS (the Multi-directional Impact Protection System), a slip layer system that minimizes rotational forces on the head and neck in case of a crash.
Today’s mountain bikes make the 26-inch wheels on previous models look downright puny. The standard for anything above entry level is now 29 inches, although there are an increasing number of 27.5” models. That extra diameter gives you more speed and enhanced “roll-over” on rough terrain.
“You can either go faster, or you can go the same speed with less effort,” Hagans says. “The larger contact patch gives you more traction and more control. If your mountain bike doesn’t have big wheels, you’re not having nearly as much fun as you could be.”
