Skagit Country Community Jus•ce Center Loca•on: Skagit County (WA) Project Type: Civic + Jus•ce Scope: New Year Complete: May 2017 Project Size (sf): 100,754 Construc•on Cost: $42,454,263 Project Delivery: DBB (Design-Bid-Build) Awards/Recogni•ons: 2018 Jus•ce Facili•es Review Highest Honor | American Ins•tute of Architects’ Academy of Architecture for Jus•ce Design Achievement - The Skagit County Community Jus•ce Center is built on the central goal to improve inmate rehabilita•on and officer wellness. To support this thinking, the project is shaped by an impassioned discussion about the amount of •me a correc•ons officer spends inside the jail during his/her career. A 25-year officer spends 56,250 hours or six years of their life in the facility by the •me they re•re. In most cases the officer will spend more •me in the facility than any inmate who passes through. DLR Group’s design used these facts to mo•vate many discussions, and to guide the team through the project. These guiding principles include: Design the facility for inmate rehabilita•on rather than incarcera•on; design for an enhanced officer and employee wellness experience; and view the building itself as an asset to the community rather than a liability. The design conveys a func•onal simplicity, consis•ng of a modern Northwest material pale"e integrated with the site and local environment. The site work u•lizes the constraints of the property to achieve a greater civic presence. Scope Summary - The Skagit County Community Jus•ce Center included a total of 400 deten•on beds, providing a mix of classifica•ons and housing types including: Two 22-bed single cell housing pods, three 64-bed quad cell units and two 44-bed double cell units. In addi•on, the facility has four dormitory housing units for inmate workers, work release and other alterna•ve program inmates. Two major program components largely defined the exterior – the housing unit, which is 200 feet long, and the corridor, or “building spine,” which connects all the building elements along its length. The housing unit used pre-cast concrete panels with an exterior texture to break down the overall scale of the mass. The exterior pale"e of concrete, wood, steel, and glass enhanced the civic presence interfacing with the general public. This design language carried into the interior and simplified as the space became more secure. DLR Group provided all planning, programming, design and engineering services for the project.

Adams Central New K-6 Elementary School Loca•on: Has•ngs, NE Project Type: Educa•on K-6 Scope: New Year Completed: 2018 Project Size (sf): 83,000 Construc•on Cost: $14,466,349 Project Delivery: CMr (CM at Risk) Awards/Recogni•ons: Excellence in Masonry | Merit - AIA NE - 2018 Design Achievement - The Adams Central School District - home of the Patriots, embraces a largely agricultural community drawing nearly 1000 students from an area of more than 300 square miles. Elementary students a!ended five small schools across the district, each serving 100 or fewer students. To respond to changing pedagogical requirements, increasing opera•onal costs, and a desire to provide flexible learning spaces with integrated technology support, the district envisioned one centrallylocated elementary school to serve all its students. DLR Group worked with the administra•on, staff, families, and community at large to design an asset that supports current educa•onal theories for flexible learning environments in a building that reflects community values rooted in the land. DLR Group’s design concept springs from local farmers’ manipula•on of the Jeffersonian grid to create texture and pa!ern, through the use of wall and flooring materials to reflect lands agricultural use, and strategic color usage. The Sandhill cranes that migrate through the area are depicted in murals throughout the media center. Scope Summary - The new 83,000 SF building serves all 600 of the district’s K-6 students. Teachers were prominent in developing the school’s program, featuring smaller classrooms and large collabora•on spaces in a grade-specific pod design. The Kindergarten pod, a FEMA-rated storm shelter, features four classrooms around a central collabora•on space that can be used for indoor large muscle play and includes cabinet storage for a fleet of tricycles. The pods suppor•ng grades 1-2, grades 3-4, and grades 5-6 each contain a grouping of eight classrooms with a central mul•-use collabora•on space. This space is large enough to accommodate all sec•ons of a grade at the same •me for team-teaching assignments, and flexible to support small group projects, one-on-one sessions with paraprofessionals, or hands-on experimenta•on. Large classroom windows bring natural light and the surrounding landscape into the building and allow teacher supervision of both classroom and collabora•on areas. A central media center serves all students, a compe••on gym allows students from the neighboring Junior/Senior High School to host athle•c events.

University of Northern Iowa - Schindler Educa•on Center Loca•on: Cedar Fall, IA Project Type: Higher Educa•on Scope: Renova•on Year Completed: January 2017 Project Size (sf): 150,480 Est. Construc•on Cost: $29,242,372 Project Delivery: CMr (CM at Risk) LEED: LEED Gold Awards/Recogni•ons: Honor Award for Color & Concept | IIDA IDEA Awards - 2018, Outstanding Design | American School and University - 2018, School of the Future Award | Patcra• - 2018 Design Achievement - The University of Northern Iowa wanted to update its 40+ year old educa•on building into an environment that educates future teachers to inspire and prepare learners to live in an ever-changing, globalized world. DLR Group’s design fosters and promotes crea•vity, collabora•on and communica•on through the careful integra•on of adaptable, technology-rich environments that encourage interac•on amongst students, faculty and the community. The design establishes several breakout areas with readily configurable furniture that enables students to quickly congregate and collaborate. Informal learning spaces are ‘carved out’ of corridors and main thoroughfares to create nodes where students cross paths in a natural way that creates a welcoming community feel. The first and second floors are connected by a series of open stairways that encourage greater interac•on between the high traffic student commons area and the more formal faculty areas. Scope Summary - The scope of this project included a complete renova•on of an exis•ng 150,480 SF building to open up, and update the learning environments into space that supports 21st Century learning. DLR Group provided architecture, interior design, mechanical and electrical engineering in conjunc•on with Stantec as design architect.

Nelnet at Telegraph District Loca on: Lincoln, NE Project Type: Workplace Scope: Renova on Year Completed: June 2017 Project Size (sf): 73,500 Est. Construc on Cost: $7,200,000 Project Delivery: DBB (Design-Bid-Build) Awards/Recogni ons: Excellence in Architectural Detail | Merit - AIA Central States - 2018 Design Achievement - The 401 Building anchors one of Lincoln’s smart-growth development, the Telegraph District. The project takes the disused 1970’s era Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph building and re-envisions it as a modern Class-A workplace for Nelnet, a leading educa onal loan provider. Formerly a virtually windowless brick monolith, the new 401 building required envelope and interior updated including ADA compliance. The design team leveraged these necessary updates to overhaul the formerly inconspicuous entry. Here, the street is ac vated with a major piece of public art: a kine c metal sculpture emblazoned with both the Nelnet logo and the new district’s telephone logo. This serves as a nod to the building’s past, its current primary use as a call center, and its future as the district’s anchor. Steel frames at the mul -story entry are mirrored along the building’s side in a modern interpreta on of the site’s industrial past. While the interior was brought to life with inspiring updates of color and material, vast amount of transparency to engage all areas of the working floors, and through the strategic wayfinding measures applied within the building. Scope Summary - The 73,500 square foot office will accommodate 750 employees opera ng on 3-shi&s to staff this 24-hour facility. The space features 3 call center floors with state-of-the-art sound a*enua on systems, and training rooms for on-boarding and con nuing educa on. A technology rich command center ensures service con nuity. Employee ameni es include a lounge with full commercial kitchen and an expansive indoor outdoor roof deck. DLR Group provided programming, architecture, interiors, and structural engineering services.

Lutz - TI Loca•on: Lincoln, NE / Omaha, NE Project Type: Workplace Scope: Renova•on Year Complete: September 2016 (Lincoln), August 2015 (Omaha) Project Size (sf): 3,430 (Lincoln), 14,000 (Omaha) Construc•on Cost: $361,942 (Lincoln), $1,330,000 (Omaha) Project Delivery: CMr (CM at Risk) Design Achievement - In 2012, Lutz & Company evolved and introduced a new Tech division. Because of an ongoing rela•onship with Lutz, this posi•oned DLR Group to help facilitate revisions and improvements to Lutz’s enterprise design standards, which are based on the firm’s tradi•onal accoun•ng focus, to benefit this new group’s effec•veness. In 2014, Lutz approached DLR Group to design an expansion for the Tech group and invited the crea•on of the new design standards to fit both iden•ty and work flow while congruently renova•ng their current accoun•ng space. With con•nually expanding growth within the company, Lutz Tech partnered with DLR Group to design and open their first loca•on in Lincoln. Scope Summary (Omaha) - The project comprised a 14,000 square foot tenant improvement designed to accommodate 45 employees on day one and seamlessly expand to ul•mately house 75 employees. As the group transi•oned to the open environment, occupancy wellbeing was a top considera•on - both for the Lutz employees and for the building’s other tenants which include healthcare providers. Material selec•on focuses on indoor air quality and preserva•on of natural light and ven•la•on paths. Acous•c considera•ons included acous•c ceiling features and a white noise system. The result of a custom tailored space is more produc•vity, with the Department Head no•ng that employees don’t “clock out” at 5 anymore, and organically engage in team ac•vi•es in the new space. Scope Summary (Lincoln) - The scope of this project included an interior renova•on of the 3,430 square foot space. High ceilings, transparency and mul•-func•onal areas were u•lized in this compact program to deliver an open and bright environment the client required. Strategic architectural features combined with Lutz’s vibrant brand iden•ty were key components throughout the design to support the forward-looking work of the technology team and the goals of crea•ng a modern workspace for Lutz employees.
