Three years ago while attending The University Of Central Oklahoma (UCO), I had an idea to start a Magazine for College students. A “cool” magazine that would pertain to students on a local level and cover fun and interesting topics. Since we are a generation that has grown up with the internet, xbox, and cell phones, I knew that it would need to be a high quality, full color piece. I spent months carefully planning and comprising a team of designers, photographers, writers, sales reps printing companies, etc. September 2007 College Crowd Magazine was born. (cont. pg 37)

The Potential Role of Value Investing In
The inclusion of equities in a portfolio is essential to pursuing most financial goals, because equities historically have outperformed all types of bonds and cash alternatives over the long term, and their higher returns help combat inflation. Sharp price swings in equities that can arise due to market volatility, however, can cause even some of the most disciplined investors to turn jittery and unload their portfolios. In a turbulent market environment, suitable investors looking for the capital appreciation potential that equities provide – with a lower level of volatility than other types of equities – often find value investments appealing. Utilizing a process known as tactical allocation, an investor can create a core holding of investments in their portfolio, and utilize surrounding holdings to help dampen volatility during market corrections or downturns, or capture upside potential during market increase or expansion. A professional investment management program may be an appropriate strategy for helping to build personal investment portfolios.

I’ve been fortunate to have some great friends and experiences in my life. I love to travel, to see and experience new places. Traveling has been apart of my entire life. I was born in Japan, lived California, and grew up in Europe. During my time in Europe my family and I traveled extensively. I have been to almost every country in Europe, and other countries such as Turkey, Israel, and Egypt. I really get into the history of each city I visit, and enjoy the unique culture. Italy is by far my favorite; the best food, weather, and history all in one place. I also love doing anything active outdoors; hiking, boating, or just throwing a football around. Last, I love working with So6ix Magazine; it gives me opportunities to be creative, experience new places, and meet new people.

”I have always had a love for geology, traveling, and snow skiing. An odd unknown fact is that I have actually traveled to rock shows (not bands) to see, buy, and collect interesting rocks and minerals. Most of my travels are because of the geology of an area. I have traveled to Iceland, Alaska, Turks and Caicos, and all over the lower 48 states and many national parks including Banff, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Crater Lake, Redwoods, and Grand Canyon. I have been snow skiing since I was 4 years old and Vail has become one of my favorite mountains in Colorado. I’m planning on traveling through Europe over the next couple months and look forward to experiencing new cultures. I enjoy camping, hiking, swimming, yoga, and reading. I also love spending time with my friends and family.“

Sooner born and Sooner bred,
25-year old southwest Oklahoma native, Lauren Lunday, was crowned the 2009 Miss Oklahoma USA on November 19, 2008. An honor’s graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology/Bio-Medical Sciences, Lauren is a third year dental student at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry where she serves as media spokesperson and a class officer. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma, Lauren worked on a neuroscience research team whose research was nationally published in the neuroscience magazine, Nature. The title of her research was “Development switch in neural circuitry underlying odor-malaise learning”. She was also the grant writer, co-founder, and spokesperson for the 1st Intel affiliated science fair in Oklahoma. Lauren enjoyed serving as an ambassador for the University’s Crimson Club where she served as a hostess for such campus dignitaries as Queen Noir of Jordan, Mayor
Rudolph Giuliani, journalist Tom Brokaw, and Williams-Sonoma CEO, William Howard Lester. Lauren is actively involved in her community with the Oklahoma Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Oklahoma, the Children’s Miracle Network, and Dental Health for Friends. Lauren’s grandmother suffered with ovarian cancer for 8 years, so cancer awareness is also an important community message that she shares with others. Lauren enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She takes pleasure in window-shopping, reading, watching scary movies, interior decorating, eating sushi, and hanging out with Lexi, her miniature schnauzer. It’s not uncommon to find Lauren weight training or jamming out in her Pilates class. Her additional interests include hosting dinner parties, volunteering, and watching sporting events, especially OU football.
(As Miss Oklahoma USA, Lauren makes appearances for community and charitable events, speaks to youth about health issues, and modeling.)

Has Your Relationship Become a Routine? Does it seem like your relationship is losing its spark? Do you frequently ask yourself, “Why can’t my relationship be like it used to be?” If you feel this way, then you already figured out what the problem is, but you, like most people, ignore the most common issue that destroys relationships everyday. The issue is “pursuing.” When you first start dating someone everything is exciting and thrilling. The reason it’s so exhilarating is because both people are consistently pursuing one another. Each are thinking of new, creative ways to surprise their partner, compliments are being given constantly, and there is lots of affection. Now that I’ve mentioned the obvious, what do people need to do to make their relationships feel this way again? The answer is very simple, PURSUE one another.
Couples tend to get too comfortable in their relationships the longer it goes on. Guys stop giving compliments, get lazy on dates, lose creativity, and stop appreciating the little things their girl does for them. Girls don’t make their man feel important anymore, withhold affection, and also quit giving compliments. The relationship becomes like another daily routine rather than an exciting part of life. Go back to where you first began and pursue each other continually and don’t stop pursuing. Be creative and think of new ways to impress, live everyday like you are still trying to win your partner over. This keeps the relationship exciting and thrilling. Ladies, realize that men need to feel important. Make them feel successful, accomplished, and confident in whom they are. Men are also very physical creatures, give them affection and lots of it by holding hands, giving little kisses, cuddling on the couch, and maybe even a little extra intimacy. Guys, all girls grow up dreaming of being a “Princess” who gets swept off her feet by her “Knight in Shining Armor.” Be chivalrous in everything you do. Tell her continuously how beautiful and special she is to you.

Pageantry is a word that conjures up so many ideas. If you listen to Simon Cowell, from American Idol, “fame” is simply a negative term. Through recent years we have seen the media bash quite a few of the “pageant world’s” stars and in many cases, rightly so. That being said, I have had the opportunity since 1997 to be responsible for hundreds of pageant contestants fabulous, fit bodies. I began training pageants girls on a fluke. A company I was working for had a couple of Miss Oklahoma contestants preparing for the pageant in Tulsa that next June. They had been training with some of the other trainers and apparently their directors were not happy with their progress. Being the head trainer, I was given the opportunity to take over and a few months later, I had my first preliminary swimsuit winner. A young lady, who had been a size 8-10 the year before became a size 2 within a few months. I had two other girls that came in at their all time best and I was on to something.
20
Since 1997 I have had 14 preliminary swimsuit winners in The Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant. In 2000 I became the official trainer for The Miss Oklahoma U.S.A. Pageant and now am in charge of Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Nebraska regions. I also train their teen contestants. To date I have trained one Miss America, Two Miss Teen U.S.A., Two Miss National Teenagers, and a runner-up in Miss U.S.A. I have had multiple finalists in all of the above. That being said, just how do you train a pageant contestant? When a pageant contestant comes to me the very first thing to address is, “how much time do we have to get you in top shape?” The next topic of conversation is nutrition. Now, contrary to popular belief, pageant girls do eat. At least the ones that I train eat a minimum of 1200-1500 calories per day. I also go over physiology of nutrition with them. I explain how to eat, how much to eat, and timing of certain types of foods. I examine what they eat currently and try to help them form a plan that works best for their taste buds. SO6: So your impressions ROCK, the Elton John BIT and the ICE ICE PAPI, how did that come about?
HOW DID YOU END UP HERE? Papi: We were approached in Kansas City after they had seen our act once before. SO6: ARE YOU GUYS FROM HERE? Jimmy C: No....I’m from Texas, but live in Colorado. Papi: I was born in Oklahoma City and grew up in El Reno until junior high and then moved to Colorado. SO6: WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE ARE SO ATTRACTED TO YOUR SHOW? Jimmy C: Well...we just have more to offer than the average show. Papi was a national touring stand up comic before he ever did dueling pianos. He brings a unique untapped energy and comedic side that is not seen all that much in dueling pianos. Papi: Jimmy C here has played with CHEAP TRICK among others big name acts and really has the musical side of the gig down as well as smoking harmonies and hilarious BITS......
Papi: I was messing with him one night and started putting all this ridiculous crap on him. When I walked away he looked like a dead on ELTON JOHN. SO6: We were talking with our friends at the show and you look EXACTLY like him, but then play and sound like him too, now what about ICE ICE PAPI? JIMMY C: That was a thing we developed in Baltimore when we played there. Papi has always been a hell of a dancer, so I just shoved him out there and made up some stuff that he responded too and VOILA...ICE ICE PAPI is born and heavily requested now. SO6: So you are not from Kansas City per say, you have played all over? JIMMY C: Mostly with HOWL AT THE MOON. We have played Ft. Lauderdale, Baltimore, Ft. Worth, Kansas City, Denver and now Oklahoma City. SO6: So how is Oklahoma City treating you guys? I would think pretty well from the crowds and line at the door to see you guys! PAPI: Yeah man, there are just not better people in the world than Okies...they appreciate it and LOVE to be entertained. JIMMY C: They really have been good to us, that is why we work so hard to WOW them and change the show up. SO6: Well we are excited to see more from you guys, any final words? JIMMY C: Thank you BRICKTOWN for the support and thank you SO6 for helping put the word out about us. PAPI: If your ready to see something totally different and tired of the same ol’ weekend. Come out and party, you WONT REGRET IT

Hello, darlings! Please allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Olya, your fashion guide through the glorious, ever changing world of fashion. I will be sharing with you some great fashion ideas, concepts, news and more. So, this issue I want to talk about our fashion inspiration(s). There are many different ways to find fashion inspiration, but I tell you my dears, one easy way is to have someone special, perhaps someone well known, celebrity or star, as your fashion muse. To keep your style current, while you explore the roads of fashion, check out what this celebrity that you like wears, take notes on how they put outfits together, what colors look good on them and etc. Celebrities have amazing professional fashion stylists dressing them and they also have access to all the latest, hottest designer clothes and trends even before you see it in stores. me, withidolize e agr en for will ve be ies t girl we ha tiny bodI’m suree s, bu t inspi - tha these w and e any timliché to on statuperfect r u yo resem ing rs no chang d of c ion ic ht be h g o be n ick twho you portant e yeaat won’teems ki lsen’s fas just mi p u n y o s m h i e o y t O e t h e t I e s . ld ation m on .T shou s some and moseen so share a soonabout thir style nspirividual i m r o e t o p f k l h a e h l l th er k ind oping So, won? GEMINI PISCES Pay careful attention to domestic matters during the month of July. Mars and Venus create extremes within your family if you allow others to take the lead when you are in fact the best one capable of doing the job. Too many cooks spoil the broth, remember that. Although you have important business to attend to between the 3rd and the 6th, taking the lead in home affairs will be unavoidable throughout most of the month.
ARIES If you’ve had a desire to beautify your home, the period of the 16th to the 21st is the time to make the necessary arrangements to do so. Venus will bring with it an increased sense of colour, balance and harmony but your previously wayward view of furnishing and interior design is now somehow improved and your knack for creating an elegant home interior is bolstered making you an amateur interior designer, at least temporarily. TAURUS
30
Up until the 11th there will be a mixture of financial and personal responsibilities overshadowing your sense of wellbeing. This will act as a background against the continuing combination of passionate Mars and Venus. You’ll be torn in many different directions and after the 12th some arguments over money could further cloud the issues that are really at the heart of any problem you’ll be dealing with.
It may be time to relocate your work or if that’s not likely, to move sideways within your organisation to another department in which you may not feel altogether confident. Don’t let a negative attitude obstruct you from winning new friends and workplace alliances. Particularly after the 12th your energy will be helpful to both your and those with whom you collaborate.
CANCER A slower pace is likely from the 12th when Mars enters the introverted zone of your horoscope. You may be seeking self-regeneration through connecting with your own inner self and feel perfectly fine about it, even if your friends don’t. Charitable work is likely in this phase and you may be inspired by a story you read or something you see on TV that causes you to help others who are less fortunate than yourself.
LEO Communications with a friend after the 19th are strained as they make their inquisitive nature powerfully felt. This is a time when conversations can become so deep that they border on cultural taboos. You may not want to reveal certain aspects of your personal life, but will be asked to do so as a form of loyalty. How you handle this will be an incredible test of your psychological flexibility.
AQUARIUS
SCORPIO A lunar eclipse takes place in your zone of communications this month and up until the 22nd you’ll have to postpone some of your usual pleasures in lieu of tightening up business and financial matters. You’ll need to be more forceful in demanding clarity from others. Someone will be trying to pull the wool over your eyes but this is only likely to happen if you’re not paying strict attention. Awareness is one of your key words this month. SAGITTARIUS Your hard work pays off this month between the 9th and the 15th you are likely to receive at least a pat on the back for persisting with a rather troublesome workload. You’re brilliant ideas and dedicated work will be recognized by higher-ups. Educational pursuits are spotlighted after the 23rd and if you’re sitting through exams or looking to improve your skill set in some way, the period after the 25th indicates even better success for you. CAPRICORN A loved one’s health after the 8th may prove to be of concern to you. Carelessness, waste and indiscretion on their part may be the obvious causes of a health crisis. Whilst you may have endeavoured to advise them as best you can, you will understand that you have no control over what others do and you’ll simply have to act as an impartial spectator.
You may be impulsive for the sake of beautifying your home but you can make your place look great without spending a fortune. This will come to a head by the 7th when the lunar eclipse (in your zone of expenses) highlights this fact. A solar eclipse after the 22nd brings monetary lessons this month. VIRGO Take some additional precautions with your health between the 8th and 13th. You need to be conscious of the fact that you may have intolerance to some foods or possibly even environments in which you are spending a lot of time and this could be the cause of your fuzzy head or generally low level of energy. Systematically study your diet and observe how this is affecting your moods and your physical state.
LIBRA Some of your friends will leave you stone cold between the 20th and the 25th. They will be playing mind games with you and that’s not your cup of tea. You’ll be more interested in carving out a whole new niche of friendships. You may meet someone who is an unusual character and may be introduced by a third party or a blind date. This may be nerve wracking at first but you’ll possibly develop a long-term friendship with them.

DR. LOVE cont. Bring her flowers, leave little surprises, and call her just to tell her you love her and that you are thinking of her. Even saying little things like “you look nice today”, “thank you for cleaning up after me”, or “great job on dinner tonight” makes them feel appreciated. Don’t turn your relationships into a routine. If you feel like it’s becoming that way, just remember to go back to what you first did…PURSUE!
THE PAGEANT BODY (cont.) The diet is curtailed, based on where their body fat currently is, when the pageant is, and what we need to do with their body. The next phase of the program development is the weights training. Yes, my girls do lift weights. Some lift 3 days a week and some lift 4-6 days per week. This all depends on their body type. Some lift lighter weights and some lift heavier weights. There is no such thing as a “pageant girl” workout it is still “personal” training. We change things every 4-6 weeks based on their progress and as we get closer to the competition, we might change things weekly or daily. The third step in the process is cardiovascular training. This is crucial for peeling the body fat off. Some girls might not do more than 30 minutes on the treadmill, 4 days per week. On the other hand, I have had girls do 2 hours per day, 6 days per week. Once again, it all depends on what we need to do and when we need to do it. Those awesome pageant bodies are earned is what I hope you see. Many times, people like to make excuses why they cannot look a certain way. What it comes down to is the ability to set goals, and systematically attack them. This is where I come in and do my best to help my girls achieve their very best. They work for it and learn skills for their lives. I know that I was very vague about what I do. Well, did you really think I was going to give away my secrets? I just recently saw one of my former girls in her bikini modeling, for an ad Maxim magazine. That was pretty cool but…. she knows my secrets!!! Ha! Ha! (Brian Attebery is an N.F.P.A. Certified Trainer with a B.S. in Health & Sport Sciences from O.U. The Oklahoma State Cowboys are looking to bounce back after their loss to Oregon in the Pacific Life Holiday bowl last season. Coach Mike Gundy and his Co-offensive coordinator are going to have a solid offense to make plays this season. Senior Quarterback Zach Robinson returns to lead the Cowboys to a successful season. OSU has 15 returning starters this season. Junior Widereceiver Dez Bryant returns to the field to lead the cowboys in receptions and make a few dazzling catches in the end zone. The cowboys were ranked sixth nationally in total offense with an average of 487 yards per game. Robinson is one of two Big 12 quarterbacks, the other being Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, nominated for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Junior Kendall Hunter and Senior Keith Toston, two of Robinson’s favorite backs will be back, along with many other talented players this season to make the Cowboy faithful happy. The Cowboy staff welcomes new running backs coach Robert Gillespie and Defensive Coordinator Bill Young to the coaching corral at OSU this year. The Cowboy’s season will kickoff September 5 against the Georgia Bulldogs at 2:30; the game will be aired on ABC. The Cowboys and the Sooners do not face-off until November 28 in Norman. The game is looking to be a shootout as both teams will be ready for battle. The Cowboys have made the Sporting News Top 10 coming in at 10. In the preseason media Big 12 polls, OU and OSU finished second and third respectively behind Texas in the South. Both teams are laden with talent and should put on a great show for their respective fans.
Bob Stoops, Sam Bradford and the rest of the Oklahoma Sooners are back to square one after last year’s loss to the Florida Gators in the Orange Bowl. The Heisman winner will have a great arsenal with eleven players returning to the offense this season. Sophomore Ryan Broyles is the only wide receiver returning to the Sooners this season so Stoops and the Sooners are going to be looking for players to fill some key offensive positions. Bradford will also have to contend with a new center, will it be Junior Jason Hannan or Freshman Ben Habern replacing Jon Cooper? We will find out when they hit the field. The Sooners will have nine starters return this season on the defensive side, with so many starters returning the defense should not stumble, only improve from its national ranking of 99 in pass coverage from last season. There should not be any doubt that last year’s defensive standouts, Seniors Auston English and Keenan Clayton as
well as Junior Dominique Franks and the offensive standouts of Juniors Demarco Murray and Mossis Madu, and the seniors, Jermaine Gresham and Chris Brown all should have a season full of highlighted plays to keep Sooner fans happy. The Sooner season begins September 5, when they take on BYU in Arlington, TX. The game will be aired on ESPN. The Sooners have made the Sporting News top five, coming in ranked as number three. The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes punishment of Ball State with a score of 45-13 in the GMAC Bowl was a successful conclusion to a 2008 season.
