L E T T E R F R O M T H E S TA F F Welcome to 2014 We have put together a great issue for you this month filled with awesome entertainment from around OKC. This month we were able to do an incredible photo shoot with members of the Oklahoma City Ballet. Getting to work in close proximity with them, I was truly inspired by the true beauty and athleticism that each ballerina so elegantly displays in each movement. I highly recommend catching there next show Carmen in February. Also, we shot and interviewed Jessica Bonhe, one of the Thunder Girls. She is an amazing girl who really has it together. We also feature some great reads in this issue ranging from interviews with several of the city’s great musicians and bands, breaking down movie streaming services, in depth look at the Thunder’s new app, and even recapping what all happened in 2013. I’m most excited this month because with it comes the new year and it’s time for all the resolutions for self improvement, life changes,
and goals for the future. Time to take a look into our lives and figure out what each of us need to do to improve ourselves and be a happier person. Although change is hard, especially when it’s giving up something we love, change is what defines us as people and the paths we choose in this life. Happy New Year!!! “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” -Winston Churchill “Let him who would move the world first move himself” -Socrates

1. What's it like being a Thunder Girl and getting to entertain crowds? Is it still as exciting to you as it was 4 years ago? Entertaining and performing for the fans is the easy part! Our fans are so supportive and have an indescribable energy on game days. It's absolutely still as exciting to me as it was in my first season, but instead of being nervous and anxious before performing, I get excited and just have fun!
2. What's your favorite part about being a Thunder Girl? My teammates have become my family here and I'm really fortunate to be surrounded by so many smart and caring women. I cherish the friendships I've made during my four seasons as
a Thunder Girl, not to mention all of the wonderful fans I’ve met.
3. You're not just a Thunder Girl, but also a personal trainer! What's it like balancing those two? Any similarities? It's busy! Early mornings of training and late evenings of practices and games pretty much consume my life.
Luckily I have a great boss and
clients who are very supportive of the Thunder. I don't really think of either of my jobs as "work" because I get to be motivating and encouraging in both and I'm always surrounded by positive people with goals.

8. You're from Wisconsin - how has life been in Oklahoma and what's grown to be your favorite part about OKC?
5. What would you say is your biggest accomplishment, whether it is from Thunder Girls or training? Traveling! I've been so fortunate with Thunder Girls to be chosen to represent the Thunder on four international tours, including three trips to China and the 2013 NBA Global Games in

CHILI LIME POPCORN Serves 8 Ingredients: 1/2 cup popcorn kernels 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 teaspoon chili powder Zest of two limes 1 lime wedge Directions: • Pour one tablespoon of oil, popcorn kernels, and salt into a heavy bottomed pot. Mix well, then place over medium to high heat. Hold the lid over the top, slightly offset to allow steam to escape. As the kernels begin to pop, keep shaking the pot to keep them from burning. • When the popping slows, remove the pot from heat and let it stand for a minute. Squeeze the lime juice over the popcorn, pour the remaining oil over the popcorn, then add in the chili powder and lime zest and toss to distribute everything. work pressures continue to mount. You may have a tendency to burn out before the year even begins, so take a rest and ensure that you control your temper.
AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18) You begin the year with a sense of urgency and you will do anything to achieve your goals throughout 2014. Be careful not to steamroll others, especially around the 2nd, 9th and 17th. A lift in your health and wellbeing can be expected around the 20th when the Sun returns to your sign of Aquarius. You should start to feel really good after this.
PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20) Your social activities are both exciting and challenging this month. You’re likely to enjoy the company of some friends and feel antagonised by others. The New Moon on the 1st heralds the beginning of new friendships. The 8th and the 11th will be key days when this area of your life will be highlighted. Friendships can slow and disputes may occur around the 25th.
ARIES
(MARCH 21 - APRIL 19) Plan your work well before you commence anything this month. You are eager to get things done, but may miss vital pieces of information that could cause you to make errors. Trying to give your loved ones enough time will be difficult as 30
so6ix.com | JANUARY 2014
TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) The New Moon in your ninth house indicates the resolution of legal conflicts and the resurgence of interest in some study or higher education. Travel will captivate your attention, and the combination of the Sun and Venus on the 11th of January will also help further your professional activities.
GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) The first month of 2014 is an intense one and much of your energy will be focused on emotional and possibly even sexual issues. The New Moon on the 2nd brings with it a vital energy that can help you break through some of your inner complexes and fears. Money should work well for you when Jupiter transits your zone of finance.
CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22) The New Moon ensures a new and refreshing state of affairs in your relationships. This is evident as the New Year commences, so don’t be shy about coming forward when social offers are made. On the 8th, Mercury connects with Venus, brining you a peak period of romantic
CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19)
A New Moon in your Sun sign indicates that you will turn over of new leaf, and that there will be an intensification of your personality and impact on the world around you. You have a strong sense of self and you want to put your best foot forward. Challenges occur on the 3rd, but you can smooth things between the 11th and the 17th. Use this time to express yourself and communicate exactly what you want. Friendships continue to challenge you around the 25th.
opportunities. Be careful around the 25th, however, when communications could cool down and worries of all sorts could appear greater than they are.
LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) Work is uppermost in your mind this month but take care after the 2nd when arguments and power plays are likely. You’ll be impulsive during the first month of 2014, so try to think carefully before making any rash decisions. Excellent opportunities occur on the 12th of January when Mercury promises some excellent partnerships. The 25th is difficult as your mind may be sluggish or not in the mood for people.
VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) This month, the New Moon in your zone of romance and creativity ensures a great start to the year with loads of confidence and opportunities to meet new people. This will reach fever pitch around the 8th when Mercury and Venus combine, producing colourful, inventive and exciting conversations. Your creativity also hits a new high around 23rd, but try not to overdo it in the last week of the month.
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) 2014 starts off with a bang and your workload
may become untenable. Demands on the home front create friction, especially on the 1st, 4th, 7th, 9th and 17th. Try not to accommodate too many people as you will not get anything done. Jupiter’s influence on your career sector means that opportunities can develop, but you need to balance work and play.
SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) The New Moon occurs in your zone of short travels and communication, and it is powerfully connected to the deep and intense Pluto, your ruling planet. Superficial answers won’t be satisfactory at this time, and after the 18th, Venus will cause you to challenge others, which will be to your advantage. Contracts also favour you.
SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21) You have a strong focus on finances as Mercury and the Sun cleverly endow you with insights into how you can improve your financial status. Be careful, however, because Mars at right angle to Jupiter on the 9th shows that you may bite off more than you can chew. Venus also shows your passionate disposition around the 17th when you actively engage with those who may not be above board. Take care. so6ix.com | JANUARY 2014

As the cost of cable packages continues to rise out of control, many people are ‘cord cutting.’ This means they’re ditching their cable packages and exclusively using streaming services that are cheaper and can be enjoyed on just about any device on the market. The services typically have vast libraries that continue to expand and the difference in price when compared to a cable package is a wide one.

So, You’re Going Antiquing?
Your Guide For Maneuvering Antique Alley And Other Fabulous Places in the 405 BY
Carissa Stevens unique. Rather than being told what pieces look best paired together, you get to be the judge. But going through the process can be tiresome and discouraging. So go in armed and ready for battle!
The best kind of homes are ones that feel like personal reflections of the inhabitants. Sort of like a mini art gallery of successful treasure hunts done over a lifetime. Rather than speeding up the process and picking out a ready made set where

KYLIE MORGAN Oklahoma City native, Kylie Morgan, is an up and coming country music star. Kylie has two influences in her music career, her mom and Shirley Temple. “I always saw Shirley Temple singing and dancing around, and I thought, why couldn’t I do that?” Kylie said. The last five years she has been dedicated in a serious manner to her music, doing whatever it takes. See that guy over there, Zach? That’s Kylie’s sweetheart who plays guitar for her and duets with her wherever they play. You can find them in restaurants, bars, and venues, like Remington Park, around Oklahoma. Her most prized position is her 1947 Gibson (pictured above) that was passed down from her great Grandpa. It was found in the Guthrie flood floating down the street. The guitar has been through a lot, including two floods, two fires, and the May tornado, which Kylie and her family lost everything. The vicious Tornado broke it in half and was later able to be repaired back together, which only adds more character to the antique gem. Kylie hopes to move to Nashville with Zach in the next couple of years and get signed to a major record label. Some fun facts about Kylie: she loves seafood and has won over 100 gymnastic medals over the years. She was voted one of CMAs “Who New To Watch.” That’s not all for this do-it-all girl, Kylie is a peer spokesperson for PACER. org’s National Bullying Prevention Center, which engages and educates communities nationwide to address bullying with a focus on teen-to-teen involvement. She’s already opened for Jason Aldean, Steel Magnolias, Glorianna, and Jane Dear Girls. Keep your eye on this one. For more on Kylie, check out www.kyliemorgan.com. 60

ZACH MARTINI Zach Martini, Moore native, is an up and coming country star himself. The other half to Kylie Morgan, he sings and plays guitar for her when they duet across the city. Zach has seriously been pursuing music for two years now with an underlying passion for it a good portion of his life. Zach explained that he plays and listens to mostly Country, but of course there’s a little bit of everything added in there. Kylie and his favorite right now would be Jake Owen.
Just like his
other half, he loves seafood. Could these two country loves be any cuter? A little fun fact about Zach and Kylie, he asked her to be his girlfriend on the 20 something of the month and Kylie insisted they wait until the first so it would always be easy to remember! So funny. They travel a lot for music, where they just spent over a week in Nashville and worked on some music. In his spare time, Zach loves to workout and is a member of Cross Fit. He also hopes to move to Nashville in a few years with his sweetheart and fully pursue a career in music and entertainment. His favorite guitar to play with would definitely be Gibson as well. Just like his twitter bio says, “Good music, good people, guitars, and good food is what I like,” that can some up Zach pretty well. To keep up with Zach, follow him on Twitter at @ ZachMartini. so6ix.com | JANUARY 2014
