Inspired by the current exhibition of Gods and Heroes: Masterpieces from the Ecole des Beaux Arts, a contest is opening to the public to produce the Most Beautiful Male Torso as well as

The Most Expressive Female Face. Beginning on July 1st and going through the 24th, the museum will be accepting entries from everyone in search of winners for each category. All entries will be displayed on the museums Instragram as well as hung in the Museum. Also, several will be chosen to appear in the August Issue of So6ix. Winners will be chosen and revealed on the Museum Rooftop on August 7th, and received great prizes and art displayed in the museum. deadCENTER FILM FESTIVAL June 11-15 deadCENTER is Oklahoma’s largest film festival and one of the 20 “coolest” festivals in the world according to MovieMaker magazine. This is a new summer music festival that is the doing of Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and OKC business and civic leader, Fred Hall. From Thursday June 26 through Sunday June 29, attendees will be able to listen to the sounds of contemporary and traditional country, rock, bluegrass, jazz and more. His fitness journey began 14 years ago after he won a competition at the age of 20 and fell in love with the transformation of his body. He found his true passion of helping others achieve their goals. In 2010, Scott decided to open his own gym. Not knowing the obstacles that would later come, he dove directly into building the gym and was scammed by a general contractor that took all of the money up front and never finished the construction. Luckily, amazing friends and family stepped in to help him finish the gym. Finally in 2011, his dream gym opened where he was able to continue helping others. Scott truly enjoys changing people’s lives. He’s able to see clients gain health, confidence, and a great lifestyle, which is priceless. Typically, Scott will start with a consultation to learn the client’s goals and do an assessment. He will typically train clients two times a week and reassess every four weeks to make sure they are hitting the goals they have set together. Scott plans to expand his time to make a larger impact on Oklahoma. He wants to teach quality trainers so that more people can be reached and receive the gift of health. EATS We are now officially “Waffle Champions”! Located in the heart of the booming Midtown district, Waffle Champion is serving up everything non-traditional but oh so delicious. Upon walking in, you’re transcended into a modern, chic space that has lot of communal seating with paper towels placed on every table and a special menu written on a chalkboard. Believe it or not, the actual layout of the restaurant is meant to be a deconstructed waffle. We were greeted by owner and CEO Todd Woodruff, who sat down with us at the communal tables and wheeled over plates of beautiful creations. The first thing that caught my eye was the presentation. It was elegant and modern, and believe me the delicious taste wasn’t far to follow. Woodruff said that if you had told him his first restaurant after being a chef for a while would have been a waffle concept, he would have thought you were crazy. His gamble paid off and this eatery is booming with business and delectable creations. We quickly dove into the food and there was a lot of (good) silence and “mmm’s.” We were served a combination of both the classic waffle, which is a house buttermilk batter with vanilla and cinnamon, it’s not too sweet. The second batter was a liege waffle, which is the authentic Belgian style waffle from yeast dough mixed with caramelized pearl sugar. Lastly, those who are gluten free are in luck! They serve a delicious gluten free “classic” batter waffle with any of the naturally gluten free toppings. First to be dived into was the liege waffle topped with cinnamon-baked apples, toasted almond crumble, and strawberry-anise compote. This combination was a step into summer with beautifully cooked fruits on top of the sweet, fluffy waffle. Second was my personal favorite, the Pit Ham. This is a liege waffle combined with Havarti cheese, fried pickles, romaine lettuce, and a homemade maple mustard with savory seared pit ham. The fried pickles with cheese and ham make for a delectable combination for a lunch option. The sweet and savory combination of chicken and waffles is done absolutely right over at Waffle Champion. They use local and free-range chicken that is buttermilk waffle with a kick of Tabasco honey wrapped up in a warm waffle. This is by far their most popular seller. Those that are gluten free, you must try their gluten free batter. I chose to top mine with fresh berries and their homemade lemon curd. This airy and fresh dish left me beyond satisfied but not as weighed down as something more heavy. It was perfect for a summertime breakfast. Not in the mood for waffles? They have other great options like their delicious salads (spinach salad pictured), soups, parfaits, milkshakes, and garlic and parsley waffle fries. Now lets stop on the waffle fries for a minute, WOW. These waffle champion waffle fries (say that three times fast) are fried and then baked with garlic and parsley and dipped in the complimentary house made ketchup and truffle mayo. As a french fry lover, these were phenomenal and you can’t beat homemade dips. Waffle Champion may or may not have just become my newest obsession. The combination of atmosphere, food, local ingredients and great staff is all the more reason to “waffle it up” every now and then. Todd Woodruff explained that they hope to soon become a late-night spot with 24/7 and eventually expanding into more restaurants around the metro and state. Patio goers, they are soon to start construction on a patio out front just in time for patio season and summertime. COOKING WITH CHEF ROBINETT Chef Benjamin Robinett, CCC, graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Portland, in 2001 with High Honors. After graduation, he ran a small café in Colorado, but quickly found himself on a career path at the Ritz-Carlton Club in Aspen. He started as the Employee Dining Room Chef, preparing three meals a day, every day, for employees, and transitioned to a Pastry Chef for the Willow Creek Bistro inside the hotel. Also while at the Ritz-Carlton, Benjamin worked as Private Chef to Barry Bonds and had the honor of working with Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Eventually, Benjamin moved back to his home town in Oklahoma and began a long and diverse career across the Oklahoma City area. He began as a Sous Chef for two small restaurants in Norman, one near Campus Corner serving students of the University of Oklahoma. Benjamin then moved to

Legend’s Restaurant, a well-established restaurant and caterer, where he put his experience to work in all areas of the kitchen. In 2006, Benjamin was hired as the Executive Chef of the Moore Medical Center, where he and his team developed a room-service style dining experience for patients and a restaurant quality and style food for hospital employees and outside guests. A few years later, Benjamin brought his talent to an upscale assisted living community in Oklahoma City, improving food operations on multiple properties until he was offered a unique opportunity to work with an Oklahoma ice carver. In 2012, Benjamin accepted his current position at the Culinary Institute of Platt College, where he shares his education and experience with students of all levels. Benjamin is an American Culinary Federation (ACF) Certified Chef de Cuisine, and is a certified ServSafe Instructor and Proctor. Chef Robinett is also currently the Recording Secretary for the local chapter of the ACF, and the Culinary Advisor for Red Rock Premium Beef Company.

CHOCOLATE SAUCE Yield: about 2 1/2 cups Ingredients: 8 fl. oz. Water ½ c. Granulated Sugar ½ c. Agave Nectar 2/3 c. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, Dutch-process 2 oz. Extra Bittersweet Chocolate (70% cacao), chopped Directions: In medium size stainless steel saucepan, whisk together all ingredients except chocolate. Bring to boil over medium heat. As soon as it starts to simmer, remove from heat, stir in chopped chocolate until melted. Allow to cool in pan, transfer to squeeze bottle while still warm, but not hot.

COURTNEY MOORE Owner of Bow & Arrow Boutique

Meet Courtney, a Tulsa native who opened up a fashion boutique right in the heart of Automobile Alley in downtown Oklahoma City. Bow & Arrow Boutique opened a little over a year ago in April of 2013 after she saw an opportunity to open an affordable clothing store after living in Dallas, Texas for a while. After months of searching for jobs and not having any great offers come her way, Courtney decided to pull the trigger and open the boutique. Bow & Arrow Boutique is for your every day woman. This is a store where you can find trendy clothing without breaking the bank. Courtney has always loved fashion, she says maybe a little too much. It’s like a dream for her to shop for a living. She decided when opening the shop that she would make sure all clothing would be under $100.00. “I love giving customers good deals and offering clothing that is different than what you can find at the mall,” Courtney says. Her future plans involve starting an e-commerce website and hoping to expand with another store in the next couple of years. Being a native Tulsan, she has a lot of request from friends to do a store there as well. What makes Bow & Arrow different, is that she only orders six of each style, this gives exclusivity to the product and keeps inventory constantly changing. Courtney’s fashion advice: always wear what is comfortable to you, have your basics but play them up with a trendy piece or statement jewelry. She explains that adding a pop of color with your shoes or purse is always fun. When not busy with the store, she loves to spend time with her pup, Penny (who is absolutely adorable and so friendly). Music is a big passion of hers. She loves going to shows and festivals and of course weekend vacations keep her going. A lot of great pieces are on their way for summer, be sure to stop by! 58

CASEY TUTER Hair Specialist at DK Salon

Meet Casey! He has been doing hair since 2007 and the entire time he has been with DK Salon in Oklahoma City off of May Ave. He is one of the longest working employees at DK along with the owners, Dina and Kristine. He loves doing hair because of all of the creativity and freedom involved. He loves being able to dress how he wishes, making his own schedule, and constantly learning and growing. Casey says the best part of his job is being able to interact with people and really getting to know them. He constantly strives to sharpen his skills with weekly in-salon education, as well additional education classes with TIGI. Casey believes the key to success is believe in yourself and that starts with a great haircut! Fact Fact: Casey has been a musician his whole life, again playing on the creative aspect that he loves. He takes inspiration from different people and parts of his life. His music that he does solo could be classified as modern folk. He enjoys writing and recording; he even has a studio in his home so he is able to do audio engineering on the side. He married his beautiful wife back in September of 2013.

He stays busy with

work, his lifelong friends from elementary that he still hangs out with, wife, two dogs, music, and remodeling.
