OKC FEST “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” is coming to life again at the first annual OKCFEST. This is a new summer music festival that is the doing of Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and OKC business and civic leader, Fred Hall. This midsummer musical party and festival will attract an estimated 30,000 fans and is completely supported by a growing alliance of businesses, community, and entertainment industry leaders. From Thursday June 26 through Sunday June 29, attendees will be able to listen to the sounds of contemporary and traditional country, rock, bluegrass, jazz and more. The lineup is incredible, with names like Dierks Bentley, Merle Haggard, Lady Antebellum, Scotty McCreery, Kix Brooks, Josh Abbott, Casey Donahew Band and much more. Stages will be concentrated in the Myriad Gardens vicinity across from the city’s iconic Devon Energy Tower and the Chesapeake Energy Arena. There’s plenty of activities, music, and food for everyone. One day passes are $35 for general admission and two day passes are $59. For more information, visit okcfest.com.

Shailene Woodley has had her fair share of big screen hits so far with an ABC Family series as well as co-starring alongside the dreamy (and recently engaged) George Clooney, in the newest craze for a series, Divergent, and the widely popular book by John Green, the Fault in Our Stars. The Fault in Our Stars is highly anticipated after its New York Times Bestselling book set records, and the movie is set to hit the big screen on June 6. For this movie, the brunette beauty had to chop off all of her long locks. Shailene is a girl that’s all about naturalness and nature. She’s an advocate for our environment and an organic girl, if you will. Fun Facts: Shailene doesn’t own a cell phone – she recently ditched it because she believes that technology is not only a threat to privacy but also to interpersonal relationships. She’s a herbalist. She makes her own medicines, cheese and condiments, and collects natural spring water for drinking. Whenever she is feeling down, she watches Pocahontas as her “pick-me-up.” so6ix.com | JUNE 2014

HEALTHY LIVING WITH

Scott Do

MEET SCOTT DO! IFBB PRO/PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE

His fitness journey began 14 years ago after he won a competition at the age of 20 and fell in love with the transformation of his body. He found his true passion of helping others achieve their goals. In 2010, Scott decided to open his own gym. Not knowing the obstacles that would later come, he dove directly into building the gym and was scammed by a general contractor that took all of the money up front and never finished the construction. Luckily, amazing friends and family stepped in to help him finish the gym. Finally in 2011, his dream gym opened where he was able to continue helping others. Scott truly enjoys changing people’s lives. He’s able to see clients gain health, confidence, and a great lifestyle, which is priceless. Typically, Scott will start with a consultation to learn the client’s goals and do an assessment. He will typically train clients two times a week and reassess every four weeks to make sure they are hitting the goals they have set together. Scott plans to expand his time to make a larger impact on Oklahoma. He wants to teach quality trainers so that more people can be reached and receive the gift of health. Scott’s tip of advice: always believe in what you do. Dreams may seem distant, but they can be achieved. Never give up and keep pushing forward. EATS We are now officially “Waffle Champions”! Located in the heart of the booming Midtown district, Waffle Champion is serving up everything non-traditional but oh so delicious. Upon walking in, you’re transcended into a modern, chic space that has lot of communal seating with paper towels placed on every table and a special menu written on a chalkboard. Believe it or not, the actual layout of the restaurant is meant to be a deconstructed waffle. We were greeted by owner and CEO Todd Woodruff, who sat down with us at the communal tables and wheeled over plates of beautiful creations. The first thing that caught my eye was the presentation. It was elegant and modern, and believe me the delicious taste wasn’t far to follow. Woodruff said that if you had told him his first restaurant after being a chef for a while would have been a waffle concept, he would have thought you were crazy. His gamble paid off and this eatery is booming with business and delectable creations. We quickly dove into the food and there was a lot of (good) silence and “mmm’s.” We were served a combination of both the classic waffle, which is a house buttermilk batter with vanilla and cinnamon, it’s not too sweet. The second batter was a liege waffle, which is the authentic Belgian style waffle from yeast dough mixed with caramelized pearl sugar. Lastly, those who are gluten free are in luck! They serve a delicious gluten free “classic” batter waffle with any of the naturally gluten free toppings. First to be dived into was the liege waffle topped with cinnamon-baked apples, toasted almond crumble, and strawberry-anise compote. This combination was a step into summer with beautifully cooked fruits on top of the sweet, fluffy waffle. Second was my personal favorite, the Pit Ham. This is a liege waffle combined with Havarti cheese, fried pickles, romaine lettuce, and a homemade maple mustard with savory seared pit ham. The fried pickles with cheese and ham make for a delectable combination for a lunch option. The sweet and savory combination of chicken and waffles is done absolutely right over at Waffle Champion. They use local and free-range chicken that is buttermilk waffle with a kick of Tabasco honey wrapped up in a warm waffle. This is by far their most popular seller. Those that are gluten free, you must try their gluten free batter. I chose to top mine with fresh berries and their homemade lemon curd. This airy and fresh dish left me beyond satisfied but not as weighed down as something more heavy. It was perfect for a summertime breakfast. Not in the mood for waffles? They have other great options like their delicious salads (spinach salad pictured), soups, parfaits, milkshakes, and garlic and parsley waffle fries. Now lets stop on the waffle fries for a minute, WOW. These waffle champion waffle fries (say that three times fast) are fried and then baked with garlic and parsley and dipped in the complimentary house made ketchup and truffle mayo. As a french fry lover, these were phenomenal and you can’t beat homemade dips. Waffle Champion may or may not have just become my newest obsession. The combination of atmosphere, food, local ingredients and great staff is all the more reason to “waffle it up” every now and then. Todd Woodruff explained that they hope to soon become a late-night spot with 24/7 and eventually expanding into more restaurants around the metro and state. Patio goers, they are soon to start construction on a patio out front just in time for patio season and summertime. Next time you’re in the area or looking for something different to try, stop by and see our friends over at Waffle Champion.

A smoke-filled room and a lucky roll of the dice were all it took to move a little diner from cowtown obscurity to annals of western folklore. Today, Cattlemen's is known not only for its unique history, but mainly for its terrific food - perfectly aged steaks, legendary breakfasts, and the best cup of coffee that Seattle couldn't touch. So stop by Cattlemen's Steakhouse, smack in the middle of Oklahoma City's Stockyards City, and soak in the rich atmosphere that has made us a favorite destination of anyone who's pulled on a pair of ropers! Cattlemen’s is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Oklahoma City so you know they’ve been doing food the right way for quite a while now. In the mood for breakfast? Stop in for their delicious steak and eggs with a cup of coffee! You can’t go wrong with a deliciously aged steak for lunch or dinner or even their ground sirloin burger grilled to perfection. This is a true legend of a restaurant you can’t miss out on.

Tucked away in a shopping center in Edmond, Lemongrass offers a variety of authentic Thai dishes in a warm and cozy atmosphere. They do their best to provide you with the best and most authentic Thai food. Each dish is individually prepared to meet your needs, using only the freshest ingredients, such as sweet basil leaves, lemongrass, ginger, kaffir lime, and exotic Thai herbs and spices. They truly bring you the most of Thailand including alcohol like the number one Thai Beer as well as a wonderful selection of wine at a comfy prince with your favorite foods. To start, we recommend the Crab Rangoons, eight crispy crepes are stuffed with crabmeat, cream cheese, and onion followed by a dip in their special sweet and sour sauce, you can’t beat them. They have all the traditional Thai Curries served with jasmine rice and honestly one of the best Pad Thai’s around that you’ll find. Syrup is a breakfast and lunch restaurant in downtown Norman, Oklahoma that started by a few people having a dream of changing the world. While visiting a foreign country the syrup leadership team thought about what a restaurant could be like that not only served incredible food with legendary service, but also one that impacted and transformed societies around the world. Syrup is a restaurant that is constantly giving back to different projects. This is a quaint little spot that serves up the traditional and not-so-traditional breakfast options. Their most popular item would probably be the “Home Sweet Home” comprised of sweet potato pancakes with marshmallow glaze and crumbled pecans. Give the Crunch French Toast a try. Not long ago, people ate lots of burgers, however they were ordinary burgers. But there was something missing – the need for something satisfying and real, something basic and good, something affordable and fresh – a place with a burger soul. A place that burger lovers could call their own and feel pride in recommending to their friends and family. Smashburger, hence the name, where handcrafted burgers are smashed, seared and seasoned to order, using their fresh, never frozen 100% Certified Angus Beef. Whether you choose our Classic Smashburger or decide to create-your-own, our artisan buns, freshly chopped produce, flavorful sauces and variety of cheeses are designed to deliver a great-tasting, juicy burger you can taste in every bite. Every great burger needs a companion, and our selection of signature sides — like Smashfries hand-tossed with garlic, rosemary and olive oil, hand-breaded haystack onions and fried pickles — are the perfect complement to any meal. And if you’re in the mood for something other than a burger, their menu of grilled or crispy chicken sandwiches, split and grilled hot dogs, crisp entrée salads and black bean veggie burgers are sure to satisfy. Their goal is to put great tasting burgers back into people’s lives.

CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22) The Sun in the low key part of your horoscope indicates a time of renewal and reconsideration of many things in your life. You feel optimistic with the Moon and Jupiter together and Mercury passing through your Sun sign which as well shows an element of humor which will assist you in cracking those hard nuts in any sort of transaction. When Venus enters your zone of secrets on the 23rd, you may find yourself embroiled in your own or someone else’s secret liaisons.

LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) Your social affairs prosper throughout the month of June and this is due to the fact that Venus enters the apex of your horoscope. Be careful around the 12th when your version of social etiquette may not be in agreement with those you are in the company of. A low key period takes place after the 17th when Mercury enters your twelfth house. Time alone is advisable. Your social affairs pick up and after the 23rd with Venus entering your sector of social interactions.

VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) You can look forward to moments of good luck and social exuberance due to the combined influence of Jupiter, the Moon and Mercury in your zone of friendships. You need to clarify some issues that have caused confusion with a friend or two. This will create more harmony once you eliminate any doubts or confusion is and this will 46

take place between the 7th and 17th. Work matters move wonderfully well particularly after the 23rd when Venus moves into your zone of career.

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) Your love of art and culture increases this month and around the 4th when Venus and Neptune make contact. Take care after the 7th however when Mercury, planet of communication and agreements moves retrograde. Investigate information more thoroughly before making a commitment. A generous dose of Venus and Jupiter energy on the 18th fast tracks your career moves and is perfect for a pay rise or new position. After the 21st when the sun enters your career zone and Venus enters your zone of luck on the 23rd you will find good karma coming your way.

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) You may need to stimulate your mind this month with the moon, Mercury and Jupiter all transiting your ninth house of higher education and spirituality. Resuming studies that have been shelved may appeal to you under this transit. You have the travel bug. Travelling for the purposes for broadening your horizons is also on the cards. This is most notably accentuated with the sun’s transit into this same zone on the 21st of June.

GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) Fortuitous financial undertakings give rise to optimism for your future success and security. Plan new work practices and business strategies with Mercury, Moon and Jupiter supporting you now. Mars in your fifth zone makes you accident prone, especially with Uranus in the opposite part of the heavens. Don’t beat yourself up or for that matter push yourself too hard in sport and competition. are in conflict. Manage health issues after the 21st.

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21) New methods of working will bring satisfaction around the 9th. You have an intense attitude to money and your associations in the work place up until the 23rd when thereafter a more relaxed attitude will win over your friends and present some business opportunities.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19) There is a shift now away from yourself to others. Mercury, the Moon and Jupiter are strongly placed in your zone of 'others' and therefore any sort of negotiation, public affairs or communications with the masses is well favored. Obsessive relationships around the 9th will distract you from the work at hand and by the 14th you may be dealing with power trippers who are trying to emotionally blackmail you. You can find some resolution to these issues after the 17th.

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18) You feel competitive this month and that sense of adventure will lead you into areas you probably haven’t been before. Exploration, moving into different territory is likely. Don't try too hard to win the approval of others around the 9th however. Be yourself and don't follow faddish people. Take care of health and avoid arguments and dangerous characters around the 14th when Mars and Pluto

PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20) You could be feeling down especially if others seem to have more than you. In the first week of the month resist the temptation to compare yourself to others by trying to keep up with the Jones’. Work hard especially from the 4th till the 10th. You can make great headway in your career. You have a lucky break in contracts and other forms of business communication between the 20th and the 24th.

ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19) You need to cooperate with others this month as the continuing presence of Mars in your PR zone makes it difficult for you to accommodate contentious personalities. Rely on the positive vibrations of Mercury, the Moon and Jupiter to take a diplomatic stance in your negotiations. Venus brings some lucky opportunities financially and perhaps that long-awaited bonus. After the 14th if diplomacy doesn't work you can pull out the baseball bat and try less gracious measures to achieve your objectives.

TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) Finances are on the up-and-up and work is a little more satisfying. There may be an intense period of focus between the 9th and the 13th at which point you need to re-examine your finances and expenditure. Some fortuitous contractual arrangement after the 23rd can help you achieve some of your ambitions. so6ix.com | JUNE 2014

COURTNEY MOORE Owner of Bow & Arrow Boutique

Meet Courtney, a Tulsa native who opened up a fashion boutique right in the heart of Automobile Alley in downtown Oklahoma City. Bow & Arrow Boutique opened a little over a year ago in April of 2013 after she saw an opportunity to open an affordable clothing store after living in Dallas, Texas for a while. After months of searching for jobs and not having any great offers come her way, Courtney decided to pull the trigger and open the boutique. Bow & Arrow Boutique is for your every day woman. This is a store where you can find trendy clothing without breaking the bank. Courtney has always loved fashion, she says maybe a little too much. It’s like a dream for her to shop for a living. She decided when opening the shop that she would make sure all clothing would be under $100.00. “I love giving customers good deals and offering clothing that is different than what you can find at the mall,” Courtney says. Her future plans involve starting an e-commerce website and hoping to expand with another store in the next couple of years. Being a native Tulsan, she has a lot of request from friends to do a store there as well. What makes Bow & Arrow different, is that she only orders six of each style, this gives exclusivity to the product and keeps inventory constantly changing. Courtney’s fashion advice: always wear what is comfortable to you, have your basics but play them up with a trendy piece or statement jewelry. She explains that adding a pop of color with your shoes or purse is always fun. When not busy with the store, she loves to spend time with her pup, Penny (who is absolutely adorable and so friendly). Music is a big passion of hers. She loves going to shows and festivals and of course weekend vacations keep her going. A lot of great pieces are on their way for summer, be sure to stop by! 58
