High Adventure Summer Camps for Youth with ADHD/LDs Full Scholarship Opportunity!
NEW SOAR SCHOLARSHIPS
SOAR was honored to be awarded the Dogwood Trust Grant for summer 2022. This grant will allow us to share SOAR’s outdoor experience through scholarship opportunities with local youth that are underserved. Dogwood Health Trust is committed to increasing diversity and equity. The grant awarded is part of SOAR’s Project F.A.I.R. (Freedom comes when there is Advocacy for Inclusion & Racial-Equity). We are so excited about this opportunity and can’t wait to share these adventures with our scholarship recipients!
WHO QUALIFIES? A qualified candidate is between ages 11-18 diagnosed with ADHD or a Learning Disability and is from a minority community. All recipients must be from Buncombe, Haywood, or Jackson County Public Schools. Recipients will have the chance to join us for our NC Canoeing or NC Classic overnight camp with a FULL SCHOLARSHIP! ABOUT SOAR
SOAR is an accredited summer camp, boarding school, and GAP year program serving youth and young adults with ADHD and learning challenges in locations across the country. Created in 1977 by an adult with learning disabilities, SOAR provides a fun and successful experiences so that participants gain a greater awareness of their own strengths and build self-confidence. Campers, students, and gappers are learning social skills, executive functioning strategies, and practicing self-advocacy through outdoor adventure activities and travel in a small group setting. Through these incredible adventures, participants make new friendships, build self-confidence, and develop life skills. Join us on the journey to success!

NC CANOEING
Our NC Canoe Adventure takes place in the Western North Carolina mountains. This course does multiple outdoor activities, but its highlight is a 4-day, 3-night canoe expedition on Fontana Lake. Campers will learn the value of teamwork as they paddle from campsite to campsite and will get to reflect on their day each night as they camp on beautiful lake islands under the stars.

NC CLASSIC
The NC Classic Adventure is considered to be SOAR’s original course! During this camp, the highlight is a 4-day, 3-night backpacking trip through Pisgah National Forest. Although backpacking is one of the most strenuous activities we offer, it is also one of the most rewarding! Campers will choose their route, acquire map and compass skills and learn the importance of organization, and carry just the essentials. After a full day of hiking, campers will reflect over a campfire about the exhilaration that comes from hard work, perseverance, “unplugging” and tuning into nature and all its wonder.
