Introduction of the Society Since its establishment in 1989, the Society has been committed to organizing educational and recreational events for students and staff at the University of Hong Kong. It has also devoted itself to raising awareness of issues in its related disciplines, such as cultural studies and textual analysis. The Society primarily serves to promote Comparative Literature as an intellectually engaging and rewarding subject with interdisciplinary perspectives. We truly hope that you will enjoy our upcoming activities, gain valuable insights and come to appreciate the memories made along the way.
From the Editor’s Desk More often than not, we find ourselves and others hiding behind this masquerade. ‘This’, here may refer to the different types of masquerade we wear, usually depending on the circumstances we are under and the people we are with. What we feel inside, doesn’t always show up on our faces, simply because we are afraid to show a certain kind of vulnerability in front of others who may not know us so well. Sometimes, it can be as simple as feeling nervous for an interview or a test but putting on a confident front because that’s what people expect of you, to be confident in yourself even though it may not always be the case. Having become so accustomed to putting on a false front, we sometimes don’t even realize that we are doing so. There’s so many different masquerades in this world and we see ourselves playing our part in this masquerade play of life. By reading this newsletter, I hope that you can gain some insights on this theme and become aware of the part masquerade plays in our day to day lives.

There are opportunities that find you, and there are decisions you make. Sometimes, at the age of 18 (that borderline of youth and maturity) you say yes without thinking it all through and with that, it’s a promise you have to commit to. I imagine, as that commitment ends you’ll probably tell yourself, “well, I’ll never in my life do that again” and you probably won’t. But you won’t ever feel the same type of ecstasy twice. It’s that sugar sweet rush of impulse, the reckless passion you feel and surround yourself and inspire others with, the moments you spend biting down on your bottom lip so hard it bleeds because it hurts and it’s tough getting through all that trouble, the energy within your physical capacity and your mind that you burn to achieve completion, that “I don’t give a damn I’m doing it” kind of strength you only realize you have when you’re carrying the heavy, delicious weight of responsibilities... All that is beautiful, and remarkable, and magnificent, and you can only experience so much of that in one life. So here, now, I am living in these decisions, I think, with 8 people who were only strangers to me up until a few months ago, who have quickly and unironically became family up until now. And wow, I mean, isn’t life just bewildering.

It’s 2:13 in the morning, and I’m just staring at the screen of my laptop, and feeling extremely overwhelmed because I don’t know what to write or where to start. I don’t think there is a word or phrase I can find that encapsulates my experience to sj, however the quote “People never learn anything by being told, they have to find out for themselves.” really seems relatable. I’m not really sure what I was expecting when I first decided to sj, but it certainly wasn’t this. Being a exco of Society of Comparative Literature, has been a roller coaster ride honestly. There have been a lot of tough moments, but then again, it’s never easy to work with a bunch of people you have just met, you just have to learn to make it work. I’m grateful for the team I got, as they are learning along with me on this journey, and these are just some of the days that I will remember for a very long time.

“如果你知道去哪裡好,請告訴我。” 三毛的風格永遠都那樣飄渺,卻又那麼的美麗。 我的人生一路走來,彷彿沒經歷過甚麼大事。沒甚麼大喜大悲,淡然迎來了大學生活。 想了想,是有些不對。好像少了點甚麼。 於是,走啊走,飄啊飄,去尋找那點甚麼,雖說我不知道答案,但或許過程中得到 的,能喚醒內心最初的渴望吧。停下過的幾處地方,也許有些曾打動我,但大多不為 之動容。然後就這樣,飄到了比較文學。也許是緣份,也許是運氣,但我卻堅信是 源於一份對文學世界的嚮往,最自然純粹的喜歡,讓我願意停留去付出更多,收穫更 多。 一向都看不透上莊這回事,傳聞中撲溯迷離:它是一種誘惑,著你去完成大學五件 事;人們輕易地忘記初衷,為它奮不顧身,燃燒GPA;既像病毒,又像傳染病,多少 人避之則吉。這段上莊的時光,除了親身體驗,沒人能代替你去感受。有一次,我豁 然地回應友人:「甚麼樣的莊,就有甚麼樣的莊友,甚麼樣的莊期。」比較文學莊, 傳承著的是一代又一代莊友對文學的熱誠。在這裏,結識了很多新鮮及有趣的文人和 文學理論。這段路程對我而言,溫柔且充滿光澤。 終究,我是幸運兒。上莊以來,接收到無限的溫情—— Anna的母愛;Joce的樹洞;Dasam爛得不能再爛的gags;驚嘆 Kawal對所有事物的處之泰然;Tiff的深夜歌聲伴我和Harmony入眠;Jot陪我趕過的 死線;尤其Hazel陪我走過的welfare trips。 遇上這班莊友,自慚形穢。他們是學霸,是文青,是藝術家,是領袖,是原則與個性 的合體;我卻未能與他們相提並論。我的莊期,大概是樂此不疲地跟著莊友們好好學 習。 九個人,背負著不同的承擔和責任,雖然同行,卻要獨力完成各自的使命,沒有誰能 依賴誰,上莊如是,人生亦如是。 一生中能有多少事情爲之一提?一路懵懂走來的我 也能上莊,也能跟所有認識的人說:「我以Soc Comp Lit爲榮。」

首次聽說比較文學四個字 , 該是看了許鞍華某部電影後,自從手多 google了她的背景,發現有這樣一個科目 , 便開始留意CompLit。不知何 時開始喜歡看戲 , 但只是喜歡、偶有好看的東西很想討論 , 並沒想過踏 足film studies的世界;有些默默關心的領域 , 譬如本地文化和 gender,在 中學時期沒多機會發掘。 曾經迷茫過 , 這些好奇有甚麼用? 我一直記住黃偉文在Concert YY 說的一 席話「可能你的一些奇怪的才能,你沒找到怎麼用。不過,它終歸會有他的 出路會有貢獻世界的方法。」我現在找到了。仍會覺得迷茫 , 但至少有八 個人與我並肩。

Having been through all the changes that one faces when transitioning from secondary school to university life, I knew that this new stage in life would come with yet another set of challenges. Every challenge I have faced has, of course, helped me grow and learn. And in this context, I definitely see 上莊 as another experience that comes with all these different challenges. 上莊 has been a completely different and overwhelming experience, right from the start. Having to go through AGM and working together to hold different events, I realized how challenging all this is and how important it is, to be able to work together to make even the smallest decisions. It hasn’t been easy but I’m glad to share this whole experience with my exco members, who have been a great support system right from the beginning. Being able to share the stress and excitement with them has given me the strength to do my best and allowed me to be more open to learn new things.

I can’t think of something really artistic to do or say but that’s what all my sj ssj did and it’s really pressuring so I don’t really know what I’m doing or writing but anyways here goes!! I don’t really know why I chose to seung jong to be honest, I just thought it’d be really cool to tell people I’m a “publicity secretary” at first, I didn’t even actually think through all the responsibility and people and socializing I’d had to do. When I tell people “oh yeah I seung jong-ed”, some rude person think it’d be okay to ask if I regret it or not, but to be completely honest, there are times when I’m overnighting chur-ing posters and am still stuck with the 小畫家-vibe after 232342348903 hrs of drawing weird lines and hand-drawn human-flesh looking triangles, it’s those time when I feel like wow that must be how death feels like. And at that point, I actually LOST all sense of humanity and basically just everything that makes me feel like a human being. I cannot say that that’s the reason why I’ve done and said so much dumb irrational lame cringe things during this (almost) half a year of surng jong, because to be honest that’s just me being me, but I’m really ACTUALLy VERy grateful all my jongyaus are still willing to bear with me. They’re all amazing and talented in their own mind-blowing way and I’m so happy to have known y’all! And to those rude people who asked if I regret it, honestly even though we work our actual heads off and feel like we’ve lost humanity in a lot of instances, (and I’m not saying just making pub or thinking of logistics there’s physical tortures too) at least we’re delirious TGT and idk if you guys feel that way but sometimes when we all feel like dying, it’s like we’ve became trippy on the fact that we’re dying and then it becomes a giant whole jong trippy party! So I guess the moral of my story is, here’s to more trippy parties lol.

為什麼倉促上了莊,我其實還搞不清楚,甚至連靜靜反思這個決定的時間都沒 有。現在既然要寫上莊文,就趁這機會想一下 , 上莊到底是什麼。 上莊嘛 , 就是一臉正經地做些無甚意義的事情。例如 , 一群羽翼未豐的屁孩 穿起燙直的西裝,在就職典禮拍個照以後,便突然成了大人,有了幹事的風采。 又或者,在group project及deadlines快要將日程淹沒的時候騰出一個個下午, 把足跡偏布港鐵線路每一個角落,向贊助商叩門,對餐廳老闆娓娓道來請求。如 是,從羞澀扭擰漸漸習慣把soccomplit的名堂放在嘴邊,變得只要告訴別人自己 是這社團的一員,便感光榮。如是,學會了以做荘務之名,笑著埋頭賺不了錢, 甚至倒貼時間金錢的活動,曉得了為無甚意義的事情放縱狂妄,也許就是青春獨 有的韻律。 上莊嘛,也是一群無所事事的人拿出時間,分擔別人不願做的苦差。你覺得上莊 很champ嗎?事實是,讓人艷羨之前,你不能畏懼凜冽寒風,天寒地凍之際請你 朝九晚八在室外擺檔看守,開檔收拾的功夫一手包辦之餘,別忘記不時到祖國進 口價廉物美的貨物。就這樣, 一群看似全能的人,傲然蔑視著密麻麻的時間表, 也不管快冷得發麻的頭顱,聚在了一起。也從未想過,蓮子雖苦,但當有人和你 甘願一起進食,吃著吃著,竟也吃出了滋味,甚至願意細細咀嚼那苦澀,為對方 難受的臉捧腹大笑。看著我們九人的一顰一笑,鬥嘴奚落,我想,我找到一個容 身小窩,那裡有讓我會心微笑的伙伴,那裡有萬花筒一樣絢麗的回憶。我想,這 蓮子好苦,但我願意吃下去。

Inauguration Ceremony 27.11.2017 Text: Anna Lam// Photo Credits: Cherry Hui The Inauguration Ceremony of the Society was held successfully on 27th November 2017. The theme of the ceremony, Kaleidoscope, an apparatus creating patterns by coloured beads in a space surrounded by mirrors, serves to represent the importance of perspective and the session’s hope to embrace diversity. The ceremony started off with engaging speeches by our guest speakers, Professor Nicole Huang, Professor Gina Marchetti and Miss Jamie Tse, who all shared their unique insights and feelings on the theme. It was followed by Miss Casey Tan’s speech, where the previous chairperson of the Society expressed her deep gratitude to the Department of Comparative Literature and her fellow executive committee members for their support. Following the handover of the society chop, the incoming chairperson Anna Lam also gave a speech to round up the ceremony. We would like to thank everyone who came to this remarkable occasion and hope all guests had a wonderful night. We look forward to seeing you all in our future events.

Annual Bazaar Voyager’s Collectibles 29.1.2018 - 14.2.2018, 26.2.2018 - 2.3.2018 (Mondays - Fridays) Text: Dasam Deep Singh// Photo Credits: Tiffany Chan, Jocelyn Chau
THEME This year the theme for our bazaar was Voyager’s Collectibles. The idea behind this name was that we wanted to sell diverse products. We sold things ranging from Chinese New Year plushies and decorations to western cult classic posters so that every person that walked by our products could find something that they want to keep for themselves. SOCIETY PRODUCTS For our society products this year, we wanted to keep them simple and comfortable, so we decided to sell society jumpers and tote bags plus society iron-on patches. These products appealed not only to our members but everyone that likes or takes Comparative Literature and even if they are not a fan of literature, they still added our hip jumpers and stylish patches to upgrade their wardrobe. FOOD We made the American classic bonfire snack – s’mores. With gooey chocolate and marshmallows sandwiched between crackers, it was the perfect snack to devour during the first three weeks when winter was in full blast. Even our exco members couldn’t resist s’mores and made it every day when they were stationed at the booth. CONSIGNMENTS We partnered with local businesses to further diversify our products. Our consignments ranged from leather laptop bags to crystal earrings and bracelets. We can happily say that our consignments sold well and were a hit among students and professors alike. THE END Nearing the end of our bazaar, I am sure all the society members felt weary and tired but also satisfied with how our bazaar went. It has been a wonderful experience holding our bazaar these 4 weeks. We all got to learn a lot especially in the field of communicating and helping each other. All in all, the bazaar was a good teacher to all of us.

Film Review
Lady Bird (Dir. Greta Gerwig, 2017) Text: Jocelyn Chau
One of the hottest contenders in the recent award season, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird is a triumphant coming-of-age film that paints a realistic picture of one’s gradual embrace towards different identities and roles in life: as a student, as a child, and as a person. Led by the performance of Saoirse Ronan and told in the perspective of Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson, a high school senior who is facing multiple definitive moments in her life, viewers are bound to resonate with the characters and find the turbulent relationships showcased in the film nostalgically familiar. Other than its major focus on the obstacle-filled road to growth and maturity, the film also highlights the formulation of both ideal and actual identities through Lady Bird’s behaviour and interaction with the people and environment around her. In and of itself, the name “Lady Bird” is telling of Christine’s desire to become someone else. She uses a name given by herself to create a persona that is unique and completely individualistic, an ideal identity that she hopes to develop. She is true to herself, in the sense that she remains unapologetic and confident in every version, but the various façades she wears is shown to viewers in the subtleties of Ronan’s expressions. In her pursuits of friendships and relationships, Lady Bird is seen catering to others’ interests, despite not knowing anything about them or disliking them. She sacrifices her likeness towards theatre, befriends a wealthy girl as an attempt to establish a more “reputable” image (we’ve all been there), and lies about the house she lives in to conceal the shame that she owns towards her real identity. But ultimately, she is reminded of the comfort she finds in being herself, surrounding herself with people she cares for from the bottom of her heart, and appreciating the environment she’s in.

A piece of dialogue that really drove this point home was in Lady Bird’s conversation with one of the Sisters of her school, under the context that she has repeated constantly her hatred towards her hometown. Sister Sarah Joan said to her, “I read your college essay. You clearly love Sacramento.” To which Lady Bird reacted with a hilariously confused expression, “I do?” These short lines exposed the contrast between ideal and actuality. Lady Bird has distanced herself from where she belongs and who she is, and fixated on the longing and becoming of something more, that she failed to see the truth – her community and her genuine self, they are both enough. From jumping out of cars to avoid a difficult confrontation to driving one and appreciating the bumps and bends of Sacramento, Lady Bird learns, develops, and relishes who she truly feels like she is. A delightful journey of self-discovery, topped with a soothing soundtrack and aesthetic cinematic shots of the City of Trees, this feel-good film invites you to re-evaluate both your actual and ideal selves, along with the gratefulness you have extended to those who have helped shaped you into you.

諜報小說家約翰‧勒卡雷在《鍋匠、裁縫、士兵、間諜》寫道:「一個人愈多身份,愈會 揭露隱藏的自我。」偽裝能使我們獲得更多身份,變成千面人,但亦會使真實的自我逐漸 浮現。我們用偽裝展現更強大的自我,掩蓋心中悲哀。到頭來,內心原始的自我終會反 過來控制我們,逼使我們加強偽裝。偽裝何嘗不是一個騙局,一場無限伸延的遊戲?我 們自以為把握到命運的脈搏,實際上是欺騙自己,把自己引進一個無限延伸的迷宮,沉 迷其中,無法自拔。世界永遠灰暗,人性難離骯髒。這種沉迷,是好是壞,難有定論。 能成為他者的巨人令人如癡如醉,因你能有令人垂涎的威力。你能統領他人,亦能踐踏他 人,一切隨你喜歡。而偽裝正正給予我們這一權力,使我們成為不可一世的獨裁者,變 得冷漠無情,不理後果,只求世事因我而變。然而,這一種偽裝是不是真的如我們所願 呢?還是,這歸根究底只是另一種自我違背?勒卡雷筆下角色喬治‧史邁利正是此矛盾的 一例。在《史邁利的人馬》裏,史邁利因一起謀殺案,決心剷除死對頭卡拉。經過一連 串調查及訪談後,史邁利成功「火燒」卡拉,取得勝利。他偽裝成一個法官,審判卡拉, 將他推入地獄。但史邁利對同事的讚美始終保持緘默,因他已變得冷血,為勝利而不擇手 段,為友誼而犧牲人道精神。他良心未泯,無法忽視隱藏的自我。他一直偽裝成心狠手辣 的復仇者,不理會,亦不想理會其赤子之心,一心只想為好友報復。雖然內心的天使逼使 史邁利反省自身,最後卻逼使他繼續偽裝,繼續欺騙自我。《召喚死者》的結局有異曲同 工之妙。史邁利在此書更偽裝成一個殺手,為拯救朋友而殺死昔日的同事。事後他相當 後悔,感到罪孽深重,難以釋懷。史邁利的心靈其實是充滿同理心的,只是為了復仇及 拯救別人才偽裝成惡魔。他透過偽裝,成功將自己「昇華」至他者的巨人,卻又變成一 個微乎其微的卑鄙人物。他內心相當自卑,想發洩出來,卻又束手無策,結果只好繼續 偽裝。這種行為,對自身而言,是無恥的,因你不能好好活下去,做喜歡的事。而我們 總不願承認,因為被自身欺騙是非常愚蠢的,而人總是不願承認自己是愚蠢、無知的。 每個人的內心皆有快樂與悲哀的劇鬥,而我認為,絕大多數人只想呈現自己光明的一 面,不讓別人看到自己黑暗的一面。偽裝,或許就能達至此一目標。為人表裏不一,有 時是給予自己另一個嶄新的機會,至少在外表上唾棄黑暗;但同時,內心情感的鬥爭勢 必更為激烈,沒完沒了。世界變得千瘡百孔,無數幻想遭到戰火摧殘,最後發現自身已 成幾乎無幻想之人,而唯一幻想,就是偽裝。史邁利是完美間諜,強手中的強手。但他 如此重視其職業,其實只希望掩蓋妻子不忠之痛,掩蓋自身性格有缺陷之憂愁,掩蓋 他人的冷嘲熱諷。他一直在別人面前偽裝成間諜強人、生命強者,只為了遮蓋傷痕。

就算他沉迷偽裝,內心愁苦也難以驅散,但只有偽裝才能稍微舒緩這些愁苦,於是 他繼續沉迷其中。偽裝是一面鏡子,其影像可以很美,但你永遠不知道它後面是 甚麼。人覺憂愁,就會訴諸偽裝,因為夢幻的美麗比現實的醜陋更容易為人所接 受。現實醜陋無比,而我們往往不願接受,因接受現實就等於放下華麗面具。偽裝 協助我們逃避醜陋,是一種解脫。但這無非又是自我欺騙。逃離了醜陋的世界, 就代表克服了內心的憂愁嗎?非也。外表可以裝飾,但內心永遠是一個樊籠,醜 陋、狹小、異常骯髒,鎖住我們。或許,真正之光,如繁星般遙遠,不可抵達。 我們如何偽裝?答案因人而異。在間諜世界裏,偽裝乃必要之惡。你不偽裝就會失去一 切,包括自己及他人的性命。一個人如果明白到身邊一切皆是危機,認為草木皆兵,他就 會盡一切努力偽裝起來,只為安享幸福。要做到偽裝,我認為有四個條件。第一個條件 是要變得無情,因為你有兩個,或多個不同的自我。你要化身為一個機械人,不帶情感, 執行最理性的決定。否則,你欲隱藏的真我會爆發出來,反過來壓住你的「他我」,這樣 你就無法成功偽裝。例如史邁利不斷自我控制,幾乎變成機械人,為的是壓抑自己的情 感,把自身投進偽裝之中,成為偽裝世界的一員。當你身份愈來愈多,你更要懂得壓抑你 不為人知的內心。當你無法控制,偽裝就會失敗。第二個條件是要變得狡猾,化為一隻老 狐狸。如果外表的你根本不是真正的你,你要小心翼翼,如間諜般謹小慎微。要知道,小 灰塵也可引起大災難。一不小心,就成千古恨,失去了間諜通訊網絡,更導致戰友被敵 人俘虜。偽裝就如假身份,一旦暴露,後果嚴重。面對不同人,我們要懂得換上不同面 具,改變外在人格。換得愈頻繁,被別人看穿的機會就愈低,偽裝自然愈成功。第三個 條件是要成為一個出色的演員,一個富有才華的千面人。所謂「知己知彼,百戰百勝」 ,我們除了要懂得偽裝,也要揣摩別人對我們的偽裝的想法。間諜明白到,人每一個眼 神、每一個姿勢、每一個動作都含義深邃,別有用心。世上不存在偶然。你要深入剖析你 要成為的那個人,以及你要面對的人,這樣你的偽裝才能加以昇華,達到極致。第四個 條件是不能相信任何人。這是偽裝的必要條件,亦是諜報行業的金科玉律。如果你相信 人,你就不會想偽裝,因為你會對人有信念,以為他們不會傷害你。這大錯特錯,因人總 會為更大的利益而爾虞我詐、互相殘殺。只有不相信任何人,才能為你帶來一線生機。 在現今社會,光明氣數已盡,黑暗之軍正浩浩蕩蕩地闖進社會。究竟沉迷偽裝提供了光, 還是抹殺了光,眾說紛紜。我們透過偽裝變得更強大,亦會變得更脆弱。偽裝是一個惡 性循環,使真我與偽我的爭論永垂不朽。人們不斷偽裝,其實是為了爭取更廣闊的生活 領域,並借此將自身轉化為一個迷宮,保護自己。因此,偽裝其實是自私行為。但偽裝 亦可以是無私行為。間諜為了保衛國家,不惜偽裝。他們很自卑,亦很強大。他們希望 成為一個象徵,照亮黑暗之軍,使其目眩。只要有一個人願好好運用偽裝貢獻社會,我 們就不能說偽裝不可接受。當黑白不再分明,道德界線變得模糊不清,我們只需做到最 好,方能無悔。勒卡雷曾言:「如你視這世界,像我視它一樣陰鬱,唯一可做的,不是 一笑,就是吞槍。」我想,這一笑,可喜,亦可悲。偽裝亦然。人的心態才至為重要。

“主持人準備!” 掌聲響起來了,她身著一身鑲鑽白裙,聽見自己的聲音從四處傳來,溫柔動聽,卻被廣播得有 些變調。 厚重的妝容,壓得她有些恍惚。 一 學生时代的她,也最喜歡白裙,不過不是鑲鑽的,是最普通的那種。那時候她留着學生頭,不 施粉黛。 閨蜜常開玩笑:明明這麼美,非要打扮得這麼素靜。 閨蜜和她不一樣。如果說她是一朵不染污塵的白蓮花,那麼閨蜜一定是那朵最耀眼的牡丹。 可就是這樣看似矛盾的友誼,她很珍惜。 有這樣一個優秀的朋友,她覺得自己很幸運。明明比閨蜜要漂亮不少,可她似乎很甘心只做襯。 她牢牢記著媽媽的話:不要輕易露出鋒芒,否則要吃虧的。 站在這樣一個光芒萬丈的閨蜜身後,是對媽媽的話最好的實踐。 而白色裙子,簡樸的學生頭,就是讓自己免受傷害最好的武裝。 她小心翼翼地不讓自己受傷,可她心裡也有一些小夢想。 比如舞台。 可惜這種機會永遠只留給閨蜜。可是她也很渴望成為穿著一襲修身白裙,站在台上的那個人。 終於,高中畢業典禮的主持人遴選,完美的身材,高挑的個子,好聽的聲音,遴選的老師們小 聲議論起來。 結果演出那晚,閨蜜穿著這麼多次演出最美的大紅色長裙,成功地吸引了所有人的眼球。結束 后閨蜜向她抱怨:現在的主持人真不行,最後一次了,他們為什麼沒選你? 閨蜜永遠都不知道,是自己搶了本來屬於她的位置。公佈主持人名單的前一晚,閨蜜在辦公室 一句無心的詢問,毀了她的所有期盼。 她到底是小看了閨蜜的優秀。 她幫閨蜜整理好裙子。外面的人在排隊等和閨蜜照相。 她咽下淚水,也吞下夢想破碎的泡沫。再怎麼樣,也要扮上善解人意的偽裝。 閨蜜的生活雖然豐富,但是感情經歷猶如一張白紙。 直到那個男生。 他甚至沒有閨蜜的一半優秀,卻帥氣得邪魅。閨蜜這傲上天的女生,就這麼淪陷了。 可是她看到了男生的戾氣和輕浮,她知道二人不可能長久。但看到飛蛾撲火般的閨蜜,她硬是 什麼都沒說。從最開始的熱戀升溫,中途的吵架矛盾,到最後的失落遺憾,她和閨蜜分享戀愛 中的點滴幸福,給閨蜜出謀劃策,至始至終都沒有把自己對男生的厭惡告訴閨蜜。

分手的時候,她早已想好了安慰的說辭,卻沒有等來閨蜜的歇斯底里。許久,閨蜜若有所思地 問她:你是不是早就發現我們倆不合適了? 她輕輕點了點頭。閨蜜也沒有生氣,只是說了句:你要是早告訴我,不要裝,也許我就不會這 麼痛苦了。 她不知道該說什麼。她佯裝的祝福和支持,原來早被捅破。 而她的一襲白裙,終於被他看到了。 等了這麼久,她終於等來了自己的白馬王子。名牌大學畢業,家境優越,體貼溫柔,就是看上 去經驗很豐富,跟別的女生走得都挺近。 同學們都很羨慕。唯獨閨蜜,沉默了很久才說:保護好自己,不要輕易為他而改變。 閨蜜的眼神有些複雜,說不清是嫉妒還是祝福。 但沒關係。她考上了國內知名高校,閨蜜出了國。 她的生活,逐漸變得五彩斑斕。 二 和閨蜜已經有好幾年沒見了。這次請閨蜜吃飯,她很期待。 見到閨蜜的時候,她發現閨蜜瘦了,可是身上的氣質是一點沒少。她看得出閨蜜在國外混得很 不錯。 她以為自己會為閨蜜高興。可是沒有。她很惶恐,不知道為什麼。 沒容她跟閨蜜打聲招呼,老闆突然遞來一張卡:美女,是你的學生證丟這兒了吧? 她低頭看,確實是自己的學生證,她跟老闆道謝,甜美地笑著要求他給自己一個好的位置。交 涉完她回頭去找閨蜜,卻發現閨蜜臉上的笑容有些僵硬。 她沒太在意,一把把閨蜜拉過來抱住,落座,點菜:來幾瓶啤酒。 閨蜜一下子抬頭:來幾瓶?你能喝那麼多嗎? 她笑笑,解釋說同學聚餐都是這麼喝的。閨蜜想說什麼又止住了,警惕地看了一眼隔壁桌一直 瞄著她們的幾個小夥子。 那個晚上她們聊了很多。閨蜜沒怎麼開口,只是靜靜地聽她說。 她很尷尬。好友的重聚,似乎變成了她的獨角戲。從前,嘰嘰喳喳的可不是她。 幸好,火鍋的煙霧遮住了她有些尷尬的臉龐。 火鍋的煙霧也遮住了閨蜜看她的眼神。 酒喝上了頭,她突然問閨蜜:你覺得我變了嗎? 閨蜜楞了一下:沒有啊,沒怎麼變。 她大笑:怎麼可能沒變,大家都說我變了。 閨蜜驚愕地望向她,隨即恢復了剛剛的微笑,說:啊也是,看著你光芒放出來了,變得挺好的。 她的嘴角突然扯不動了。她不是這個意思。但是她也聽得出來,閨蜜講得很別扭。 這時她抬頭看向閨蜜,火鍋的煙霧遮住了閨蜜的表情。她突然感覺餐廳很嘈雜,可是她還是聽 見閨蜜說: 只是一定保護好自己。 三 「和我們一起倒數,三,二,一——新年快樂!」 燈光全亮了,音樂全響了,台上的禮花絢爛地噴出,她的眼前一片斑斕,熱鬧得有些恍惚。 回到宿舍,她脫下沾滿亮片的禮裙,放在窗前的椅子上。

她站到鏡子前開始卸妝,好看的胭脂和眼影在化妝棉上化成亂七八糟的污跡。宿舍的白熾燈這 時候把她的臉照得慘白。她好像很久沒有仔仔細細看著沒有化妝的自己了。 她突然被嚇著了,急忙轉頭,卻又看到擺在書桌上的照片。照片里那個穿白裙子,臉蛋毫無修 飾的女孩在對她微笑。她迅速洗完臉爬上了床。 她突然覺得好累。她隱隱約約地發現,這種累不光是穿著高跟鞋站了一晚上帶來的。高中時裝 作閨蜜的好姐妹,談戀愛時為了討男友歡心學會的油嘴滑舌,上大學后為了社交和機會層層包 裝自己。原來這種疲憊,早就在她骨子裡了。 她翻了個身,瞟到了在床邊椅子上靜靜躺著的白色禮裙。月光灑進來,照得鑲鑽一閃一閃,閃 著閃著,閃得她掉出了眼淚。她現在突然很想再穿一下高中時候穿的那件白裙子。 可是那件白裙子,好像早就被她扔了。
後記 上大學以後,我和她的聯繫漸漸少了。 唯一密集的交談,是在她和男朋友分手的時候,似乎沒怎麼受影響。 很多時候,她的朋友圈我都不大懂。我只看到她學會了化妝,還畫得很好;她學會了搭配,穿 得越來越大膽;她還有一個看似很熱鬧的社交圈。我還知道,她終於當上了夢寐以求的主持 人。 看著她發的照片,我忍不住輕笑:這個小妮子,高中的時候裝得什麼都不懂,其實能美成這樣 呢。 而我,收斂了很多。國外大學不似國內高校,很多機會得靠自己爭取。我遭遇了不少挫折,沒 跟她說,她也沒怎麼問,大概是知道我扛得住。 回國後她請我吃飯。一進店我就看到了,火紅的連衣裙,人群裡一眼就能認出來。 我剛想過去,突然看到老闆走向她,手裡拿著一張卡。我聽見她說謝謝,估計是什麼證丟在這 兒了。然後,我看到老闆上下掃了她兩眼,油腔滑調地說:要不是這麼漂亮,我還不記得還給 你呢。 而她居然接了句:喲,謝謝你呀老闆,既然這樣順便給我個好位子唄。 老闆一下子就笑了,臉上的肉在火鍋店的油光里堆了起來。 我突然覺得不認識這個人。但沒容我多想,她看到了我,一把拉過來抱住,力度大得讓我有些 不適應。 我看著她熟練地點菜,和服務生小哥嬉皮笑臉地多要了兩盤配料,最後說,上幾瓶啤酒。 我驚訝地看著她,想畢業時她一杯酒也抵不住就上了臉。她揮揮手說,小意思了,我們同學出 來都是這麼喝的。 我感受到了鄰座小夥子不懷好意的目光。 那天晚上我們聊了很多。我又知道了她進了大學以後成績也不錯,很會抓機會,馬上又要被公 派出國。新年要到了,她馬不停蹄地又要趕兩場新年演出的主持。她很快樂。 快結束的時候,她問我她有沒有變。 我突然不知道該怎麼回答她,我怕向來直爽的我說出的話會傷了她的心。我小心翼翼地找著說 辭,火鍋的煙霧遮住了她的表情。 最後我還是很不識趣地說了句:只是一定要保護好自己啊。 新年零點的時候我在微信和幾個朋友問候祝福,知道她應該在主持沒空給我發新年快樂,便先 睡了。可是第二天起來的時候,看到她的聊天窗口依然是一片空白。 那個穿白裙的女孩子,終究不見了。
