Pettique Questions

I am hosting a party at my home, and I have dogs. What should I keep in mind in my planning?

If you have guests in your home and your dog is overly excited to the point of making your guests uncomfortable, put your dog in the other room or outside. Inform your guests beforehand that you have dogs because some people have allergies or fears of pets.

I never know what to do when people approach me while walking my dog. What is the general rule?

This is an excellent question because not everyone is comfortable around dogs. Keep your dog close to you and stay alert to others. Your leash should be short enough to prevent your dog from contacting or jumping on passersby. If your dog does something to upset someone (jumping up, barking), apologize to them and take measures to prevent the situation from reoccurring.

What is the number one etiquette rule you want new pet owners to know?

Scoop your poop! Pet owners have a responsibility to manage their bet’s behavior and follow certain rules of etiquette. It is very important to clean up after your pet goes to the bathroom. Bring several bags on your walks to be sure you have enough.
