This newest location reflects South Texas Health System Clinics’ continuing commitment to accommodate the region’s growing healthcare needs.

Meet the Physicians of South Texas Health System Clinics – Ortho South Texas Daniel Romanelli, MD, FAAOS

Dr. Romanelli is board certified in both Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Romanelli specializes in advanced arthroscopic reconstructions of shoulders, knees, sports medicine and work-related injuries. He is an Orthopedic consultant for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and a Clinical Assistant Professor for UTRGV School of Medicine. He also served as an orthopedic consultant for New Mexico State University Athletics and Las Cruces area high schools from 2004-2020, as well as one of the traveling team physicians for the U.S. National Soccer Team from 2002-2013. In addition, Dr. Romanelli served as the Program Director for the Mountain View Orthopedic Residency Training program from 2015-2020. He completed fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Romanelli received a BA from UCLA and his medical degree from New York Medical College.

Jeffrey Martin, MD

Dr. Martin is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon with 22 years of experience in Level 1 Trauma and Spine. He has performed thousands of cases in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine with patients traveling from Canada, Mexico and nearly all 50 states. He treats a wide range of conditions including back pain, sciatica, pinched nerves, radicular pain, stenosis, disk herniation and many more.

Most of Dr. Martin’s minimally invasive spine procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and may result in reduced risk of infection, decreased postoperative pain and blood loss, less damage to normal back muscles and quicker return to activities of daily living. Yes, work and play!

Sujan Gogu, DO

Dr. Gogu is triple board-certified in Family Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Pain Medicine. He is a graduate from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. Upon graduation, Dr. Gogu relocated to Texas where he completed his family medicine residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He followed his residency with a sports medicine fellowship at Texas A&M University in Bryan and a pain medicine fellowship at Texas Pain Institute in Fort Worth.

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to benefit from the expertise of a sports medicine physician like Dr. Gogu. He addresses a wide range of issues and has extensive experience treating patients of all ages, including pediatric, high school, collegiate, professional, weekend warriors, industrial athletes and the geriatric population. He also takes into consideration any chronic diseases a patient has, creates a customized emergency action plan, and diagnoses new onset medical conditions. In addition to working with medical conditions related to sports and athletic performance, Dr. Gogu has extensive experience in musculoskeletal injuries including spine conditions.
