DEDICATED TO HELPING KEEP BODIES IN MOTION
If you are experiencing shoulder and knee problems, such as pain, swelling, motion limitations, or numbness, it may be time to schedule a visit with board-certified Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Physician Daniel Romanelli, MD, FAAOS, at South Texas Health System Clinics – Ortho South Texas.
Orthopedic Care: The Basics
Orthopedics covers care for a wide range of conditions, including anything affecting the body’s bones, muscles, tendons, and cartilage. Orthopedic treatment is common in sports since athletic injuries often affect the musculoskeletal system. Active people of all ages – from weekend warriors to casual participants – are susceptible, especially when activity is accompanied by insufficient warm-up or lack of conditioning.
Providing a Wide Range of Services
Dr. Romanelli uses various operative and non-operative treatments to improve or resolve acute or chronic musculoskeletal ailments to help heal patients and improve their quality of life.
Common orthopedic conditions that are managed conservatively or with surgery include:
• Shoulder and knee injuries
• Sports injuries
• Tendon injuries/ruptures
• Ligament, meniscus, cartilage injuries, and fractures
• Knee ligament injuries, such as ACL or meniscus tears
• Broken bones
His specific areas of focus include ACL, knee, and shoulder surgery, as well as meniscus repair, “Tommy John” surgery, and advanced cartilage procedures such as OAT and MACI.
What to Expect if Surgery Is Needed
The entire process — from your first visit to when you elect surgery through surgery scheduling, pre-op evaluation, the surgery itself, post-op recovery, and long-term follow-up — is completely tailored to each individual patient.
As your provider, Dr. Romanelli’s job is to educate you. He will help you make appropriate decisions about your care and explain what he’s doing, including how and why. He will also provide you with all the tools needed to stay informed, including written instructions, literature on the disease and treatment, and educational classes if you are undergoing joint replacement surgery.
More Than Two Decades of Experience
Dr. Romanelli is a board-certified Orthopedic and Sports Medicine physician with more than 22 years of experience. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. Dr. Romanelli has served as Orthopedic consultant for topperforming athletic programs such as the New Mexico State University (2004-2020) and the U.S. soccer team (2002-2013). He is a clinical assistant professor for the UTRGV School of Medicine and an Orthopedic consultant for UTRGV Athletics.
If you are feeling the effects of a condition such as a sports injury, shoulder injury, knee injury, meniscus tear, cartilage problems, or any number of other challenging conditions or injuries, know that Dr. Romanelli is nearby – ready to provide the care you need, when and where you need it most.
