WHAT DOES YOUR COVER LOOK LIKE?

Summer allows us to observe people as they view themselves, leading to the conclusion that the essence of how one projects to the world is an abstraction of consciousness and beliefs conveyed through physical attributes, the calculated presentation of emotional decorum, and selective wardrobes. Objectively, most would tend to agree that based on an individual’s appearance, dress code, and overt behavior, an accurate summation of their yet-to-be-determined intentions will be judged in the public arena based on appearance rather than substance; evidently, it’s an efficacious means for achieving a desirable result for an initial social interaction, allowing further judgment to be carried out through conversation.

Case in point, quite often, dependent on a multitude of environmental factors, in today’s society, almost anything goes; ostensibly, we can pre-judge the character and reaction of a person through intuition and perspective of their appearance and appropriateness for specific situations. It’s at this interval that expectations are drawn down to binary selection: Approach or Avoidance.

Refreshingly, there’s an undercurrent of people—from all walks of life who take their reflection quite seriously, adhering to the notion that there comes personal responsibility to themselves and others, dependent upon the milieu.

Regardless of where on the spectrum you decide to find comfort, it’s all personal. Yet, at the same time, not everyone is as astute or forgiving as we might like to believe.

While the adage, ‘The eyes are the windows to the soul,’ may be accurate, appearance indicates more about who you are and where you’re going now and into the future! Too often, these individual components play cover for the one lacking validity; however, when there is congruency and someone discovers consistency between heart and mind, authenticity and reliance will effortlessly drive meaningful results and heightened interpersonal interactions.

Live your reality. H

Looking good! Are you at your best when you leave your oasis, or does the thought, “It’s good enough,” take the sting from the fact your slipper and last evening’s PJs’ are a faulty substitute for appropriate daywear? Even if it’s to drop by the post office, fuel up the car, and grab a half-gallon of milk, all it takes is one disdained look from a stranger who seems to have spent a few hours ‘prepping’ and parades through town like a celebrity runway model, to deflate your ego for the remainder of the day. It’s not an accident we make judgments; the same goes for a sub-par appearance. Take a moment to reflect on your book’s cover

Sheer Elegance

On The Shore Of Cape Cod

Seven enchanting acres of waterfront property just about anywhere is rare, but as many have come to realize, on the Cape, it’s unheard of; that is, until now.

The story of this magnificent location is heartwarming; it carries a legacy of young spirits and joyous occasions while touching upon the importance of providing children with unique experiences and teaching them essential skills that remain with them throughout their lives. Over decades, special memories were created and instilled in many as they prepared to enter a vast world of challenges and the excitement of chasing their dreams; each summer served as an ‘outdoor classroom,’ shaping and guiding influential minds.

Welcome to what was once known as Camp Viking; engulfed with history, its nearly 100-year story is worthy of your attention.

Between 1929 and 1984, this beautiful location played a vital role in the development of character and trained young men to become world-class sailors. It was a summer retreat for around 100 campers ranging in age from 8 to 15 years old. Its founders, Katherine McLoon Bryan and Norman White, Jr., joined forces in 1929 and established a boy’s camp on the point at the top of Little Pleasant Bay in Orleans, Massachusetts.

During the war, it was run by Mrs. Bryan alone, and at that time, the camp offered a limited number of bunks to girls to assist in the “war effort.” Once victory was achieved, the location was returned to a boy’s sailing camp, abound with a host of other summer activities.

In 1945, Camp Viking was purchased by Cedric Hagenbuckle, assisted by his brother Roderick; for several years, they maintained its operation, carrying on many of its long-held traditions. Over time, Roderick went on to buy his own campground nearby, leaving Cedric to fill the void. The Camp Master found assistance from his son John until they leased the operation to Tom Lincoln, a former camper and counselor, in 1976. Lincoln ran it until 1984.

The ‘Viking Boys,’ as they were known, were made famous for their challenging overnight sails to North Beach, Monomoy, and Nantucket in their black double-ended whaleboats.

‘The

Newport Mansions’

We kick off the summer days of August with two exciting— more accurately, fantastic events that will intrigue and inspire!

First off, The Preservation Society of Newport County, a membership-driven organization responsible for the many unique events and attractions of the Newport Mansions, has pulled back the curtain on the most important behind-the-scenes ‘Upstairs/Downstairs’ Tour at the worldrenowned ‘Breakers’ Mansion. This limited guided experience is like no other! Guests will climb 85 stairs and descend 95 more as they peek at the ‘behind-closed-doors’ life of both families and servants during the ‘Gilded Age.’

View and fantasize what it must have been like in the private bedrooms, bathrooms, and recreational spaces used by the Vanderbilt family and household staff for more than a century. At the same time, learn about the importance of preservation and witness it in action. Become an insider and take in the reasoning, planning, and physical work required to restore these

spaces for all to enjoy. You’ll see floors and walls that have been restored and others that have been left untouched to show the effects of time and the elements. You’ll see décor from the 1890s, 1940s, and later, reflecting the family’s changing uses of the third floor of this magnificent home.

This Tour is a different experience than the standard Breakers walk-through; delve into the Vanderbilt family legacy that will enlighten and entertain like nothing before. H

Make Way For The Elephants!

Come view 26 life-size elephant sculptures on the back lawn of The Breakers as part of the first American stop of the traveling exhibition, “The Great Elephant Migration.” Created by a community of artisans in South India who live in harmony among wild Asian elephants, these magnificent pachyderms

carry a powerful message of conservation and coexistence between humans and wildlife. The sculptures are fashioned from lantana camara, an invasive weed that encroaches on wildlife habitat.

Other groups of elephants will be displayed outside Rough Point Museum and Salve Regina University’s McAuley Hall. They will be visible from the Cliff Walk at all three locations.

Admission to The Breakers grounds and mansion is by paid admission or Preservation Society membership.

The exhibition is presented by Elephant Family U.S.A. in collaboration with Dodie Kazanjian of Art & Newport, with funds raised from sales benefiting nongovernmental organizations performing conservation work around the world. Each elephant is available for purchase through The Great Elephant Migration website, thegreatelephantmigration.org. H

The Hamptons, a coastal paradise renowned for its pristine beaches and affluent residents, face a growing blight: plastic and other pollutants.

The once pristine sands are being marred by discarded bottles, tangled fishing lines, fragments of polystyrene, and even furniture!

The idyllic image of the Hamptons has been maintained because before tourists or homeowners get to witness the disgusting messes, crews are out in the early morning raking and loading trucks with waste. Still, there is significant evidence that, as a society, we are losing the race to clean up beautiful coastlines and seascapes that are being eroded by recklessness, stupidity, and profit.

From whales and sea turtles to dolphins, seals, and shorebirds, there have been and continue to be increasing ingestions and entanglements from debris due to our disposable lifestyles; death and destruction result because the oceans are used as giant dumpsters.

During the Industrial Age, factories were built along seaways as a matter of convenience for disposing of toxic chemicals in the oceans where the discharge would go unnoticed. And while—for the most part, the issue has been addressed, there remain municipalities, one which includes the Seaport City of New Bedford, Massachusetts, which continues to offload untreated human waste from an outflow pipe near its coastline when heavy rains overload its treatment system.

the ocean; it’s known as the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch,’ but don’t let the cuteness of the moniker dissuade from the seriousness of the issue. According to Matthias Egger, head of environmental and social affairs at the Ocean Clean-up, during the same interview with CBS, claims efforts are being made to “…prevent an ‘ecological time bomb,’” that is already laying the foundation for future human health issues.

Smolinski’s report cites other hazards beyond what is visible; she adds, “The marine life that consumes plastics can get eaten by larger prey which in turn can get eaten by humans who end up consuming those initial [micro] plastics at the beginning of the food web. Microplastics are found everywhere now—from people’s lungs to mother’s breast milk.”

From whales and sea turtles to dolphins, seals, and shorebirds, there have been and continue to be increasing ingestions and entanglements from debris due to our disposable lifestyles...

Many communities organize ‘yearly’ beach clean-up initiatives, and organizations educate the community about the severity of the issue; unfortunately, it’s an “out-of-sight, out-of-mind” phenomenon.

The issue of irresponsible waste management isn’t just a Long Island concern, it’s a global crisis that is damaging all coastal communities. Lost fishing gear, building materials, and medical trash are plentiful on beaches. At the same time, fishing boats and larger vessels dump garbage and industrial hazards out at sea to save a few dollars by avoiding disposal fees and reclaiming costs. On a larger scale, the use of disposable plastics during every minute of our lives eventually ends at sea, creating massive floating islands of plastics and assorted other garbage.

In a recent article by Paulina Smolinski for CBS News, June 2024, she reported on an unbelievable collection of trash, equated to “620,000 square-miles—twice the size of Texas,” drifting in

Besides needing a worldwide commitment to cleaning up local waterways, harbors, and oceans, investment is needed in large-scale clean up technology to break and remove the floating reefs of trash.

As concerned citizens, we need to urge leaders to embark on legislation that will put a full stop to the use and disposal of plastics used to carry groceries, water, and even celebratory balloons. Government agencies need to criminalize and enforce restrictions on the dumping of hazardous or waste materials into the sea through drone and satellite monitoring. According to many environmental groups, the first step is personal responsibility. Even though it seems to be a lean trait for some, it’s one of the most effective means for reducing the use of plastics—which would also save consumers money. Purchasing long-lasting, reusable porcelain or metal water bottles, using canvas shopping bags, and implementing glass storage containers while enhancing the science and practices of recycling are doable without disrupting our lives. With widespread efforts and compliance, the journey of reversing the tons of ‘junk’ we throw away is a realistic goal. By no means should these words be construed as ‘activism;’ instead, it’s a dire issue needing immediate intervention due to health and environmental hazards, compounded by the revolting aesthetics of trash littering what was once a pristine beachfront.

As with many social issues, they don’t get the attention needed because they’re easily ignored, but, in this case, we can no longer turn away from our responsibility to the earth and its oceans. It’s time to act and feel good about deciding to be part of the solution. H

Environmental Dangers

CAN’T BE IGNORED

Coastal erosion is a pressing environmental challenge facing Newport, Nantucket, and Montauk, among other East Coast locations. The corrosive actions of the sea gradually wear away cliffs and shorelines, many of which are lined with multi-million dollar properties or lighthouses used for navigation.

A combination of natural and human-induced factors primarily drives the problem of losing landmass. The main culprits behind cliff erosion include rising sea levels, intensified storm activity, and coastal currents. As climate change accelerates (a natural occurrence as history can explain), sea levels continue to climb, undermining coastal bluffs and beaches because of the increased frequency and intensity of storms. These unusual weather events cause powerful and destructive wave action and surges that erode the coastline at an alarming rate. Additionally, coastal currents transport sediment away from the shore, further contributing to the damage left behind.

Furthermore, the extraction of groundwater can contribute to coastal instability.

Human activities also exacerbate the problem. Development along the coast often disrupts natural sediment flow, leading to erosion. Hardened structures like seawalls and jetties can concentrate wave energy, accelerating erosion in adjacent areas.

In response to this crisis, various measures are being implemented. Beach nourishment, which involves replenishing eroded sand, is a common strategy. However, it is often a temporary solution, as subsequent storms can quickly wash replacement sand away. Other approaches include constructing seawalls and revetments to protect against wave action, but these structures can also have negative environmental impacts.

Nature-based solutions are gaining

traction, such as dune restoration and the creation of living shorelines. These methods aim to mimic natural coastal processes and provide longterm protection. Additionally, coastal zoning regulations and setback requirements are being implemented to limit development in vulnerable areas.

While these efforts are commendable, entirely stopping cliff erosion remains questionable. The relentless forces of nature, coupled with the ongoing impacts of climate change, pose significant challenges. While mitigation measures can slow erosion and protect critical infrastructure, it is unlikely that they can completely halt the process. A more realistic goal may be to adapt to coastal change and implement strategies that build resilience to erosion’s effects. Ultimately, the loss of these iconic landscapes requires a comprehensive approach that combines scientific research, engineering solutions, and policy interventions. By understanding the complex factors driving erosion and adopting a proactive and adaptive management strategy, coastal communities can increase their resilience to this pressing environmental threat, perhaps saving homes and other property from falling into the sea. COPING WITH PERSONALITY

Awidely accepted notion is that there are 16 Personality Types. The theory, according to the testing model known as Myers Briggs,® describes subcategories of Analytical, Resolve, Leadership, and Creative characteristics. Additionally, there’s a more discrete dichotomy of personality, carved into the following: Extroversion vs. Introversion, Sensing vs. Intuition, Thinking vs. Feeling, and lastly, Judging vs. Perceiving. Principally, this group of traits or, better yet, behaviors, defines social interaction styles, a person’s view of the culture, the handling or interpretation of emotions over logic, and how an individual interacts with the world around them.

As an introduction to this essay, there is no need to be more profound—albeit possible because the structure of personality is never-ending and can be parsed much further. For our purposes, we turn to a specific personality type due to its rarity and the difficulty in deciphering the methodology of its internal complexities and unusual social interactions.

Avoiding deep analysis, if we create a baseline by taking two individuals possessing distinctly different personalities, we might find a barrage of unexplained innuendos, boundary testing, controlling, autonomy, and placidity of interactions, accompanied by hundreds of other social, intellectual, and behavioral traits— some in conflict, with others successfully melding.

Today, we’re here to review what is considered the rarest but most challenging personality type of all: the INFJ. Those carrying this label are believed to display both internal and external ‘Advocacy personalities,’ they exhibit traits of Introvertness, Intuitiveness, and an abundance of Feelings, and are Judgmental. They are also believed to be highly considerate, thoughtful, and full of imagination. With little doubt, they are viewed as kind and caring.

Unfortunately, they face undeniable stress because of how they view the world; wrapped in idealistic notions, guided by principals, compounded by the need to supplement the growth of others, life to them is a constant battle of creating good in the world; it becomes their mission to make improvements— everywhere!

These people don’t simply dream of what could be; they are reactionary, moving with determination so they might instill their values onto others. They are forceful in the sense of demanding from their followers, yet they are quiet leaders, shedding influence by way of representation and example. The INFJ is compassionate and motivated, far from financial rewards or status; instead, they seek purpose in sharing a vision, often more illustrious than we are led to believe; it’s their ambition to hold the people around them to a higher plateau than they might themselves.

It’s been proposed that INFJs don’t feel homogenous within group settings; ‘fitting in’ with others isn’t a strong suit. Experiencing a lack of closeness can be troubling because these personalities have enormous passion and desire to enlighten others. The strain of connection can be problematic for these individuals since most of the population surrounds themselves

with impenetrable walls of protection to avoid sharing inner thoughts and ideas because of unfamiliarity with new acquaintances. Having unique personalities, they will try to interact positively with others for the purpose of helping improve their lives, when in reality, most people shy away from a stranger offering concepts and practices for attaining emotional growth.

Often, these Advocates are perceived as authentic and honest by those who know them; they prefer active conversations with outcomes versus small talk, which only delays their gratification for achieving their objectives. Ordinarily, they are conflicted by injustice; it can be a heavy burden to carry when so much is present everywhere you turn. Having the ability to identify problems quickly and then fast-track solutions leads them to solve an unlimited number of indignations while neglecting their health and safety, following a path to exhaustion and emotional burnout.

The typical INFJ personality takes on the weight of the world because they view it as needing them and their God-given talent. Whether it is one person or one thousand, they are emboldened with a particular purpose—a talent—not observed in others. With huge hearts, quick wit, and near-brilliant intelligence, they embark on creating change where they believe it’s required.

For those unable to read between the lines, the INFJ is very much a perfectionist, motivated to exceed typical standards and avoid—at all costs—mediocrity. Their internal voice sometimes diminishes their efforts to the point self-doubt obstructs their initial version of creating change. At the same time, the interference seems to strike at their core, causing a reaction to dig deeper in order to engulf the challenge presented.

If empathy were gold, the INFJ would be the wealthiest personality. With an innate ability to perceive emotions, they often intuitively interact with all they meet. With the habit of taking on the energy of others when positivity flows, conversely, they suffer from negativity when presented; it is counter to their own continuous state of well-being. It’s been written that those having a foothold into the emotions of others experience a high degree of pain, which can lead to bouts of depressed feelings not instilled by their situation but from the close connection established with people they interact with regularly.

Their relationships with a romantic partner are beyond personal; they abhor conflict, anger, and resentment. These depleting energies take away from their internal light. As a result, they use conflict avoidance tactics, which leads to poor communication with their love attachment. This ongoing silence allows a buildup of unresolved issues attributed to daily living, forming a wedge between them and their lover.

These lives are exhausting; the use of extreme amounts of energy is indicative of a car battery, turned on day and night, lacking regular charging; the lights dim until they go dark. But, as one would expect, the best recharge is one connected to a depleted cell because that’s when the charge is fully complete, lacking memory caused by insufficient jolts of power.

When surrounded by a complimentary group, the INFJ knows no limits, and they will perform at peak levels. These are the people who show up at massive rallies for charitable causes and events. They can be extraordinary leaders with unfathomable energy that motivates others and leads to enormous success.

In the end, these folks carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. Still, from afar, they are the people who move mountains, garner support from massive crowds, and corral physical and emotional energies that feed people, build shelters, and get them the care they need so they can participate and contribute to society.

When thinking about it, we could use a few more of them. H

The Signs, Symptoms, & Family Struggles of Dementia

Photos are representational of Kerry and Charles

In the beginning, dementia was the furthest thing from Kerry and Charles’ minds.

Sharing their tragic personal story with Dementia U.K., Charles was regarded by all who knew him as a “beautiful, kind person,” having led a long, distinguished career as a professional clarinetist, conductor, and composer. But in 2016, after the first 13 years together, Kerry began noticing odd changes in her husband: forgetting where he placed his jacket while accusing Kerry of hiding it, forgetting things left in the room upon leaving, uncertain how to adjust their home heating, along with struggling to use electrical outlets.

To Kerry’s dismay, early-stage dementia was ruled out, as he could still recall a name and address after five minutes—the most basic of memory tests—given by multiple general practitioners.

There began a long, arduous quest for answers as Charles, then in his mid-sixties, continued to decline. His symptoms intensified at night, twitching, flailing, falling out of bed, and mistaking the front porch for the bathroom. For protection, Kerry installed a crash mat, sensor lights, and a door alarm. By the end of 2019, Charles realized he needed to retire from performing and conducting.

A thorough cognitive assessment and MRI in early 2020 led to a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment. But Kerry’s persistence, continued observation, and the availability of telemedicine during the COVID lockdown led to a more accurate diagnosis of Lewy body dementia (LBD) later that year.1

UNDERSTANDING DEMENTIA

Dementia isn’t a specific condition but an umbrella term for damage to or loss of brain cells resulting in difficulty remembering, thinking, focusing, or communicating. This deterioration interferes with daily living and independent function, as well as feelings, behavior, and relationships. Though it’s not a normal part of aging and an inevitability, dementia mostly impacts older adults. 2, 3

No one is immune from severe cognitive decline, regardless of wealth and status. (Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan and actor Bruce Willis come to mind.) Worldwide dementia prevalence is projected to nearly triple over the next 25 years,

from roughly 57 million people in 2019 to almost 153 million people by 2050, mostly because of population growth and aging, say researchers in The Lancet Public Health. However, living a healthy lifestyle also plays an important role.4, 5

More recently, the topic is being invigorated because of the pronounced cognitive and physical decline of President Joe Biden, who is ostensibly providing a window into signs and symptoms of the brain disease’s process.

Studying global dementia burden across 195 nations, the researchers observed 1.69 times as many females with dementia in 2019, and they expect the pattern to continue through 2050. While dementia rates are declining in North America and Europe, possibly from better cardiovascular care and disease awareness, experts agree that global rates will increase. Dementia already ranks seventh in the leading causes of death worldwide and is a major reason for disability and loss of independence in older people.4, 5

Under the umbrella of dementia are five main disease types. Alzheimer’s disease, making up some 60-80

Dementia isn’t a specific condition but an umbrella term for damage to or loss of brain cells resulting in difficulty remembering, thinking, focusing, or communicating. This deterioration interferes with daily living and independent function, as well as feelings, behavior, and relationships.

percent of dementia cases (as in Ronald Reagan’s case), is believed to stem from beta-amyloid and tau protein buildup that damages brain cells involved in memory, language, behavior, and reasoning. Vascular dementia, the second most common dementia type, results from blood vessel blockage and micro-bleeding inside the brain, preventing or reducing oxygen flow and affecting thinking ability. LBD, or, more specifically, dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), leads to progressive loss of thinking, reasoning, and independence and involves “Lewy body” brain abnormalities mostly made of alpha-synuclein protein. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) (as in Bruce Willis’ case) is a condition of progressive brain cell loss in the frontal or temporal lobes, causing

changes in behavior, personality, and/or language. A person can also have mixed dementia or a combination of these conditions. 2

Dementia isn’t senility, notes the Alzheimer’s Association, as this falsely implies that debilitating mental deterioration is a normal part of growing older. 2

OBSERVATIONS

Memory loss, usually noticed by someone else, is often an early symptom of dementia, although memory loss alone doesn’t indicate dementia.6 Occasional misplaced keys and forgetting an acquaintance’s name, for example, are normal age-related memory changes. Knowledge, life experiences, old memories, and language skills normally remain as we age.3

Dementia symptoms can vary significantly, and they come on gradually, with cognitive impairment beginning slowly and steadily worsening over time. 2 According to the Alzheimer’s Association, the reader should pay particular attention to the first ten signs and symptoms described below.

NEXT STEPS

EARLY SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

OF DEMENTIA 2, 3, 6

Memory loss that affects daily living

Difficulty planning, organizing, or problem-solving

Inability to finish familiar tasks (especially when complex)

Confusion over time or place

Problems with visual or spatial ability, as when driving

Difficulty speaking or often at a loss for words

Misplacing wallet, purse, etc. and unable to retrace steps

Declining or poor judgment, as with money or grooming

Withdrawing from work or social activities

Personality or mood changes

Difficulty paying bills

Difficulty planning and preparing meals

Can’t remember appointments

Getting lost inside and when leaving a familiar neighborhood

Using unusual terms to describe familiar objects

Forgetting a close friend or family member’s name

Forgetting old memories

Poor coordination and movement control

Depression and anxiety

Easily agitated

Inappropriate behavior

Suspicion, paranoia

Seeing things, hallucinating

Progressive dementias are irreversible, while dementia-like symptoms can also result from modifiable factors like low nutrient levels or medication side effects. So, experts say it’s important for people or their loved ones who are experiencing difficulty remembering or thinking to see a medical professional to determine its cause. Early detection can maximize treatment and allow time for planning ahead. 2, 6

There isn’t a single test for dementia. Instead, clinicians perform an in-depth medical history and test for cognitive abilities. If there’s cause for concern, a physical exam, blood work, and brain scans (C.T. or MRI, for example) can help pinpoint a cause. A diagnosis of “dementia” can be determined with high confidence, though not necessarily the type of dementia, since symptoms and brain changes often overlap. 2, 3

Neurodegenerative dementias, like Alzheimer’s, have no cure. But, treatments are available that can help prevent further brain damage and mitigate symptoms like anxiety or behavioral changes. Several drugs are typically used for Alzheimer’s and often for other dementias: Aduhelm® (aducanumab) (to be discontinued November 1, 2024), Kisunala™ (donanemab), and Leqembi® (lecanemab). These have proven the ability to remove beta-amyloid from the brain, protecting against further cognitive and functional decline in early Alzheimer’s. Volunteering for clinical trials is desperately needed and is another way of receiving potentially effective treatment. 2, 3

Regarding prevention, while factors like age and family history of dementia can’t be altered, research suggests that a healthy lifestyle (clean eating, not smoking, and regular exercise for both body and mind) may lower dementia risk.2 Researchers are concerned about the effects of obesity, smoking, and high blood sugar on rising global incidence.4, 5

GETTING HELP

Charles passed on New Year’s Day 2024 at age 72. After a frustrating ordeal, Kerry’s story shows the many gaps in dementia care and support in the U.K. She wanted to have Charles at home in his final days but couldn’t get the assistance to do it. Similar care gaps exist in the U.S., affecting who may remain at home versus moving into a nursing home.7

People affected by dementia can find needed guidance through trusted organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association and Dementia Society of America®, including caregiving information and local support groups. H

QUALITY & COMFORT

We all recall those dreaded days when the thought of breaking in a new pair of ‘Penny Loafers’ came with pain and anguish. Sure, once the sore and swollen feet returned to normal, the shoes not only fit like a glove, but the classic look was impressive and versatile.

Well, those days are over because Florsheim Shoe Company, established in 1892, still lives up to the reputation of manufacturing the finest and most comfortable shoes today. As the story goes, one of our staffers mistakenly ordered two pairs of shoes when he intended for one. However, after slipping into them, he decided to keep both pairs. Apparently, the value (only $130, but currently only $117, plus free shipping with a code found online (Google Florsheim penny loafers) and their extreme comfort (no breaking in these paw covers is required) was enough to create a ‘loyalist.”

You won’t be disappointed, and you’ll look outstanding. H

NATIONAL S’MORES DAY ON AUGUST 10

Whether you’re at the beach, around a campfire, or in the backyard, enjoying an evening near the firepit, nothing equates to the delicious S’mores Kit ($15.95) delivered from the candy kitchens of Hilliards. Made with ‘homemade’ marshmallows, a choice of Hilliards signature chocolate bars – Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Crisp, Peanut Butter, or Caramel, and crispy Graham crackers, it’s a dessert mini-feast of delectable indulgence.

Each kit includes all you need to make four, yes, four, remarkably enticing gooey treats.

Our taste testers have awarded this summer creation 5 stars! But it isn’t the first time. Hilliards has been one of our top choices for our enjoyment or when needing an exceptional gift for a client. Since 1924, Hilliards quality and value rank them as number 1!

To go a step further, we recommend adding a Charlie Bar, or two or three ($3.50 each) (sold separately), to your order. Having no equal, with the purchase of the rich dark chocolate bar featuring fresh roasted California almonds and a dash of sea salt, $1 of each sale will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. (Be sure to check out our Wellness feature this month).

Hilliards Chocolates are available for purchase at HilliardsCandy.com and ships nationwide. Or, if you find yourself unable to wait, plan a visit to any one of their four shops in North Easton, Norwell, Mansfield, and West Bridgewater, all located in Massachusetts—how lucky are we? H

FRENCH GRAPES

Wine is fine, but Saint-Esprit 2021 is outstanding. Delas Côtes-du-Rhône Saint-Esprit Rouge 2021 is a Rhone Red Blend from Côtes du Rhône, Rhone, France. Rated by wine expert James Suckling he scores it a near 4 Stars, rates it a 90, calling it very good. However, it impressed us a bit more, mainly because while it is robust and found to be refreshingly different from our usual choices of Cabernet Sauvignon, the digestive weight of the wine was slightly lighter, meaning a bottle is quickly finished without effort while still meeting similar attributes of Cabs. According to the winemaker, “The Saint-Esprit’s deep color has a dark, plum-like hue. The nose is classic syrah, with berry fruit, violet, and licorice. It has a full, rounded palate with delicate tannins, making it a unique wine in the Côtes-duRhône appellation. Saint-Esprit pairs well with Provençale-style cuisine, stuffed tomatoes and eggplant, mixed grills, and barbecue.” While we concur with the conclusion, we note that it accompanies seafood and chocolate, too! Such a well-rounded delight isn’t just for guests for special occasions; it’s a perfect beverage to enhance a list of meals and desserts. Although easily found online and at select retailers, we made our purchase at the New Hampshire State-owned liquor outlets. Prices range from a low of $11.99— only on the web, to as much as $18.99 instore. Interestingly, if you were to sample the Delas Côtes-du-Rhône Saint-Esprit Rouge 2021, you’d likely estimate its price point in the $30+ range. We highly recommend stocking a case before it’s discovered and its affordability is hindered. H

TRAVEL IN STYLE

We are ecstatic that we have found a company that aligns with our values and taste for design excellence; introducing ShoreBags.®

THE BROTH OF YOUTH

If you haven’t discovered the magic of Le Mer, allow us the introduction. Backed by science and highly acclaimed by loyal customers, Le Mer ranks in the top 3-4 best skin care applications available. An icon in the realm of rejuvenating skin care, Le Mer isn’t for the faint of heart. For example, its Crème de la Mer moisturizers are priced from a mere $100 for 0.5 oz. to $2,860 for the 16.5 oz. size, and there is never a discount. But seeing is believing, and the result can be astonishing with regular use. From testimonies of regular users of the product line, women claim they love the aroma and feel it against their skin. As for subjects during testing, they report that within hours, their skin feels firmer, smoother, and more radiant. After a two-week follow-up, these same women commented they noticed a reduction in fine lines. Naturally, the look of well-hydrated skin creates a noticeable glow that gets attention, adding to its perceived benefits.

The Best Day To Begin Any Project Is Today

Every result starts somewhere; the same goes for advertising, marketing, and branding. And, just like the attractive and sturdy oak tree outside your office window, it grew into greatness because it wasn’t shaded by competitive growth, devoured by predators, or damaged due to malice.

The resilience of a tree and that of a business are similar, although your business usually requires more assistance.

Suppose you’ve noticed a slowdown in traffic and receipts, the loss of market share where you were once a leader, or want to move up to the next level within your industry. In that case, it’s probably time to renew your brand identity and present a new and refreshing message to a whole new generation of consumers.

In a struggling economy, businesses lacking an understanding or mislabeling its ‘Value Proposition’ are succumbing to the competitive pressure of those who continue to evolve with market conditions as well as changes in customer preferences and profiles. Give it some thought, and if you’d like to know more, call or send us an email; we’d like to talk to you about how, together, we can improve your business.
