Welcome... Welcome to this athletic season at Tiffin University. I invite you to watch and cheer for all of our women’s and men’s teams. Intercollegiate athletics play an important role at Tiffin University. The students who participate develop life-long friendships and learn leadership and teamwork skills, how to set goals and work hard to achieve those goals, how to deal with adversity, the importance of persistence, sportsmanship, and physical fitness, and other skills and abilities that contribute to satisfying and productive lives and careers. Our athletic program also provides visibility and name recognition for TU, helps develop a sense of excitement, morale and school spirit on campus, and provides opportunities for students, employees, alumni, and supporters to unite behind a common goal. We are especially proud of the high standards of conduct displayed by our coaches and players on and off the field.
Paul Marion, Ph. D. President
At Tiffin University, our students endeavour to excel in both the classroom and the athletic arena. Our athletic programs have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years with conference championships, teams being nationally ranked and challenging at national tournaments. There have been numerous individual accolades including All-Americans, and it is no small accomplishment that in the past few years we have set new standards of excellence with our individual and team academic achievements. We expect our student-athletes to be just as successful in the classroom. A recent self study conducted by the university indicated that, of all the athletes who completed their eligibility at Tiffin University in the last five years, 95% of those athletes graduated. While many colleges would be ecstatic with these results, we will never be content until it is 100%. We are proud of our rich history and look forward to setting new milestones as we enter the NCAA Division II playing field and the highly competitive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We are proud of our athletes and what they have accomplished. They have been the force behind the winning tradition that has been established, and I am confident the future will also be highly successful for Tiffin University athletics. - Lonny Allen Athletic Director

Coach Allen has led the Dragons to more victories than any other coach in Dragons history (385). Coach Allen is a 1992 graduate of Tiffin University with a degree in Sports Management. He has a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Bowling Green State University. He also serves as Athletic Director for Men’s Athletics and instructs in Facilities Management. Jason Bailey - DH Hon. Men. GLIAC
Tiffin University’s Heminger Field continues to improve as a top quality baseball facility. The home of the Dragons fully utilized their new press box facility for the first time in 2009. The press box has an expanded media center with internet access along with a broadcast area. All Dragons home games will be broadcast live on Tiffin University’s web site from the facility with live stat tracking also planned. Future plans also include live video broadcasts of all home games. The press box facility also has offices, storage space, a concession area, and restroom facilities. The home of the Dragons was improved at the backstop area with a nicely designed concrete wall and professional netting in place of chain link fence. The fan seating will be completely reworked, with individual seats replacing bleachers directly behind the backstop in front of the newly designed press box and concession area. The facility will continue to modernize with the times as it becomes a vital part of bringing Dragons baseball to the public.

2010 Season Preview The Tiffin University baseball team is excited about their prospects for the 2010 season. But Dragons Head Coach Lonny Allen holds no illusions about the key to the Dragons have a breakthrough year in the GLIAC. “Our pitching will determine whether we are successful at the highest level,” Allen, entering his 19th season as TU Head Coach, said. “We need to see improvement from last year’s returners and get a great contribution from our freshmen.” The pitching staff, which posted a team ERA of 7.91 last year, can be confident they will get significant assistance from the offense this year. TU will field one of its most potent lineups ever, led by All-Region and All-Conference rightfielder Ty Blake. Blake, who set a new school record with 70 hits last year, batted a team best .402 with 15 doubles, 4 HR, and 41 RBI. He will be joined by three other All-Conference standouts - DH Jason Bailey (.366, 43 RBI), 1B/P Pat Curtin (.324, 6 HR, 37 RBI), and shortstop Val Helldobler (.354, 42 RBI). Other key returners in the starting lineup will include second baseman Tom Touris (.313), outfielders Devin Rudolph (.271) and Bobby Mullin (.318), third baseman Colin Lowe (.307) and catcher Jason Kulp (.190). Junior transfer Cory Hornyak will play centerfield while also man the top of the Dragons starting rotation, while Zach McCutcheon (.375), Chris Pistorio, and KC Weber will battle for the backup catcher duties. “Our offense is definitely our strength,” Allen noted. “We have one of the top hitting teams 1-9 that we’ve ever had. In addition, our defense is much improved from last year due to the experience they got last season.”
6
The Dragons pitching staff will benefit from solid returning experience combined with highly talented new additions. But the returners will need to improve on their performances from 2009 for the Dragons to battle for a top spot in the GLIAC and Midwest Region. In addition to the newcomer Hornyak, Pat Curtin will also see a significant increase in his time on the mound. Last year Curtin went 1-2 with a 3.80 ERA in 4 starts while spending most of his time supporting the Dragons offense. Trevor Woodjets also returns after posting a 2-6 record with a 7.73 ERA in 10 starts. Donnie Smith (4-4), Doug Berlan (11 appearances), Kyle Klinker (2-4), and Tom Podulka (2-3) will also battle for a starting spot. Besides Hornyak, other new pitchers will have an impact. Kyle Blackford, Jordan Liette, and Brock Mitchell have the ability to make significant contributions, while returners Jason Higgins (12 app., 1-2), Brad Davis (18 app., 1-1), and Travis Colliver (12 app., 3-2) will hold key bullpen roles. The Dragons have their eyes on competing for the top spot in the GLIAC. Perennial powers Ashland and Grand Valley State remain the teams to beat, but Allen believes his team has the talent to challenge those two teams. “It is always a dogfight between those two teams,” Allen, who is closing in on 400 career victories, said. “If our pitching can step up and do the job I believe they are capable of, we will definitely be in the mix.”

Heminger Field - A Glimpse of the Future Tiffin University’s Heminger Field will continue to expand with the announcement of some exciting future plans. The home of the Dragons will improve the backstop area with a nicely designed concrete wall and professional netting in place of chain link fence. The fan seating will be completely reworked, with individual seats replacing bleachers directly behind the backstop in front of the newly designed press box and concession area. Plans are also in the works in the near future for a full renovation and expansion of the Dragons dugout area, with individual lockerrooms, baseball offices, and a lounge area to be directly connected to the Dragons dugout. The facility will continue to improve with the times as it becomes an integral part of making attending baseball games a great experience for Tiffin University fans.
Tiffin University enjoys playing its home games at Heminger Field. One of many attractive new facilities on display, Heminger Field is one of the top baseball fields in the region. With capacity for 500, enclosed bullpens, a new fully equipped press box, a renovated backstop area with nettting, improved stadium seating, and a large outfield electronic scoreboard, the field offers the Tiffin University baseball team a great place to call home. The field is just 1.5 miles from the Tiffin University campus and resides on 78 acres of land that also house all the outdoor athletics teams at TU. Heminger Field is part of the Tiffin University Athletic Fields, which debuted in the fall of 1997. Also included are two softball fields, two soccer fields, two football practice fields, and a developing cross country course. Another new addition to the fields is the Athletic Fieldhouse. In addition, there is expanded parking accomodating hundreds of vehicles. An indoor practice facility is also in development.
